I think you should buy a book about bitcoin which include  a complete package about bitcoin so that you can start your essay from the fundamental aspect of bitcoin then going through the significants aspect which is the  economic and blockchain technology.

From my point of view, if you are making an essay about bitcoin. You can start from making an introduction about how and why bitcoin was created with blockchain technology because here they will know the purpose and uses of bitcoin. After that, you can tell about the risk or advantage and disadvantage of bitcoin because here they will realized if buying bitcoin would be worth it in the long term.

That major points was already discussed by other users here maybe we should suggest another unique features and topics about bitcoin.

It won't be a hard thing to do for you and that's for sure since you have already got your experience working with Bitcoin. On doing your essay, you just have to put in your own experience working with Bitcoin backed up or supported by factual information which can be gained from the internet since there are already data and information about it online.

Start up your essay on introducing what Bitcoin really is just to let your reader gain their interest on continuing to read the whole essay. Make it catchy yet simple to be interesting. Put basic facts on when does Bitcoin is established and other basic facts that you think people must know as introduction of knowing what Bitcoin is, just like the first time you know it.

Since you are studying computer science, this will put you up having technicalities involved which surely you do already understand how it is done and just put up how Bitcoin works and can be used. Apply your field on explaining the essence of Bitcoin's existence and how computer science can make use of working with Bitcoin and I think that was already enough for that. How about you start with a paragraph that explains what Bitcoin is all about, the year it was created and the person that created it. And apart from that you can go into the advantages, how Bitcoin has been your community and things like that. Then you can find something interesting to close the essay.

-What is blockchain and when was the idea first conceived?
-How did Mr. Satoshi Use this idea ?
-What is Bitcoins ?
-What are the advantages of using Bitcoins ?
-Why does it give us a break from corruption ?
-How it can completely eradicate the middle man ?
-What are the ways that people can earn using Bitcoins ?
-What are ICO's? How did Bitcoins create a whole new era where we have 100's of cryptocurrencies
-Why does even the Government want to make their own cryptocurrencies? Should they even be called cryptocurrencies?
-Possibility of growth in the future, why we should own at least a little of them ?

I think you get the idea , just make a bulletin with questions like these and then elaborate them .

essay is not narrow  but its not like a book where you can fit all contents  . he is talking mainly on bitcoin and not blockchain and others that are only consider accesories  . write only points that tackles the main use of btc and its basics , that should do the job .  narrow is the word he use but he didnt know where to start and sounds like he is confuse . this forum is already a place where infos in bitcoin can be found  . not all sites cover the talks on bitcoin on the year 2015

Bitcoin is not at all a narrow topic lol. There are many points you can cover such as:
Decentralization.
Inflation rate.
How it led to creation of altcoins.
Working process of bitcoin and about its ledger system.

You can write about blockchain in general and how its implemented to bitcoin. Its real world applications and how it solves payment related problems.  Its encryption technology. You can add many such points to your essay. Bitcoin is such a vast topic that even a book wouldn’t suffice to fit its contents. So, research and write your essay as interesting as bitcoin ecosystem.

Integrate your topic to different aspects of your life like it change your point of view. aside from that you can also relate it to the environment like one can conserving resources as fiat money could not. It could also do in the political side like making it as a platform for a running for election as the way to eradicate corruption through blockchain.

Since it was an essay to be done, then make use of your experience at the start of it then you slowly introduce all about Bitcoin from when and how it was started. Share your own thoughts on the experience you have got from working on Bitcoin. Your experience will say it all and just do support it by doing some research that can be useful on the track of course you have which is Computer Engineering. The best thing to write about bitcoin and blockchain would be to write about why it was created, it had a anarchist background that allowed it to be basically alternative to currencies, sure right now people use fiat to buy bitcoin, sell it for higher price and withdraw more fiat currency and they basically end up becoming richer in fiat or at least aim to be richer in fiat and that is why most people use bitcoin.

However, if you go back to it is roots you will see that the creation process wasn't like this at all, the aim of bitcoin wasn't to peg it to USD or something and then make people rich, the reason why it was created to begin with was to actually earn/spend bitcoin and make it a currency in itself without having to change it to any other currency and just use bitcoin only.

It is much better if universities would try to implement blockchain as a course or subject, and I just read it in some threads here in this forum that if they will try to do that, college students will have a prior knowledge or basic ideas about cryptocurrency.

I noticed that the OP created this thread way back in 2015. So I am assuming the OP already graduated as it was almost 5 years ago. I don't know if people here check the date of thread creation and just give their insights regarding this topic. Also, the OP was last active in April 2016.
