In my case, I do'n't have no other choice but to hold because the price of some of my alts holding are low, having no trade volume and some are showing signs of recoveries in which I think holding for a little longer would be more beneficial than selling at this point especially to those alts which are included to the 'mainstream' ones. I am hoping still that the prices would go higher upon the halving, so I decided to wait for a little longer.
Taking profits at the right time is good,  but I think for some quality altcoins with use-case are good to hold in the long-term.
I do believe that what could happen to Bitcoin's market value after the halving could reflect to the market price of some altcoins that I am holding which boosts my patience to not sell at this point despite of some redmarks we are seeing. There could be chances that the market prices can still climb their way up which could generate more profit. And for those that won't, i would probably hold them than to lose money from selling at this low point.

Shitcoins tend to swap because their value to the dollar is so low.

I watched that shitcoin BTK being swapped and even if you held it and did everything right you'd still lose value because the new coin after the swap was worth much less proportionally to the pre-swap version. It's like they're trying to make it tradeable again but it's still not enough in most cases.

You see a coin undergo a swap? Stay away from it.

In summary, don't be a victim of pump and dump coins.

Newbies usually get the wrong idea when the coins are pumping. They're having the FOMO and that's why they buy at the top of those coins. The action they'll take is when they see the coin doing well but if it's not, no actions will be taken.

It's how they respond to the markets sudden change of movement.

This is very common especially most recent projects. Sometimes they are forced to swap their previously issued token for the sustainability of the project and sometime it might be due to further implementation of some features that are never part of the initial plan and the need for scalability and more efficient blockchain platform than the previously adopted one. Gymreward has done that also. They migrated from the Ethereum blockchain to the EOS and up till today, some people could not swap there token

Don't hold some good but random altcoins for a long time. If you still want to hold then don't leave their telegram group or other social accounts, check updates on a regular basis. Because if you just hold and keep it in a wallet for 2 years then who knows after 2 years your coin's value may turn into zero value, because of the swap!

I lost many coins because of swap things! Recently Insolar is swapping their token, I did not know about it, because I have been holding for two years but did not care enough as the price was very low! Today I was checking the Coinmarketap android app and saw Insolar coin increased by 530% but their ticker is XNS when I knew it was INS! So, I joined their telegram and get the updates about the swap! Unfortunately, If I fail to swap on time then all of the value of my holding coins will be zero! So, except Bitcoin, Ethereum, don't trust any coin for just buy and hold for a long time, rather keep updating yourself!
If you invest in a coin it's your responsibility to follow how the coin develop, or you have just wasted your money without knowing if your losses or gain a profit, you should also know when to sell your coins at the right time if the developers are trusted and they have a solid roadmap, then it's ok to hold long term.

Of course knowing the update of the coin is very important for holders of long-term investments. I experience the same thing when I don't swap coins that I hold. and finally the coins I could not use. Following the project update is strongly recommended for holders.
