Going to preorder one soon, as long as he could clear up how the preorder of the chips goes? Smiley

So...99 usd is only for one chip USB while 300 is for 8 chip assembled board?

Hey there, Really interest in the drillbit thumbs. Are they similar to the asicminer units but with bitfury chips?  Would my current set up of a 10 port usb powered hub and small fan be ok to use?

Also, Just looked at the paypal buy page and there doesn`t seem to be a selection for the thumbs..

Thanks guys, this project looks awesome...

I'm talking about pre-orders for October! They used to be listed on the site for anyone to buy and now they are no longer available to PRE-order. One real of chips does not constitute a 'large order' anyway. This is a reasonable question, unless Barntech has some other arrangement made.

Erk has a point. Any large order will ALWAYS have a lead time even if they are in stock. And the companies that are carrying BitFury chips won't have them ready to send to the ones coordinating group buys like this one until around early October.

I believe Barntech posted that they were planning to purchase Bitfury chips from megabigpower. However, the site now listed bare chips as out of stock. What's the plan? And, how many more orders are needed to fund the chip purchase?
What has being in stock got to do with a group buy? Do you assume an order has to be placed only after the seller has stock, you have a lot to learn. Large orders have a lead time.

Antifragile
I have been in contact with Barntech and will be visiting as soon as there is something to see & photograph.
This may be as little as a blank PCB - as due to the urgency of getting things moving, I figure the sooner we get any independent verification that these guys are on track the sooner the group buy will be filled.

I was just going to suggest something like that. After all the scams and such, it helps both parties involved:
- The fabs are seen as legit and get more business.
- The buyers (us) feel more comfy and order.

The verification of ID here by a member is a great first step, but it is just ID and we are talking tens, hundreds and sometimes millions of dollars.

I mean, think about it, if a person has a business and advertises, often there is an address, picture of the owner, diplomas/certs., etc. The more information the more trust.

I'm not saying this against or for anyone, just mentioning it here as I'm thinking about this GB. Again, it benefits everyone involved.

Thx,
IAS

You might also consider using two fans in serial for extra static pressure, similar to the super powerful Delta fans (but not nearly as loud!). Or just one fan at each end of the board, push-pull? The buyer could have the option to configure no active cooling, a single fan, or dual fans in serial for powerful air cooling. Smiley

Depending on the distance apart, unless you contra-rotating fans, this is not a good idea as the second fan won't have a smooth flow of air over the blades and be very inefficient (ie, provide no gain).

What sort of cooling are we talking about to run the chips overclocked to 2.7Gh? One 80mm fan for each 8 chip board?

Can't give you definites until we get to the proper testing phase, but yes basically the chips will run very hot when cranked up that high, so we're looking at fans, heatsinks, even liquid cooling if you want to get really serious about overclocking. Will let you know hoe it all looks as we do our tests.
Have you considered using the fan to blow down the length of the board? That should make them stackable then, as well as ensure that all the chips get some air rather than just having the fan blowing over a few of the chips from above. Cool

What are the plans/timeframe for the Drillbit Thumb?  I see they are not available for pre-order yet.  A 2Gh usb powered stick would be a cool thing to have.  I'd be interested in at least one @$99.

I'll get the preorder option up for the Drillbit thumbs tonight for paypal. And if anyone wants to order thumbs now via BTC, go right ahead.  Cheesy

I know no one really wants to think about this, and I would hope that everyone will be honest and carry through there orders, what happens to the buy if it starts to be mid-September and these dont look profitable anymore? With the large amount of PayPal orders, payments could be yanked. Is there a contingency plan if that happens, or would the remaining orders just be refunded?

Firstly, really hoping this doesn't happen. That said, if a bunch of people request refunds close to the time of the order going in, leaving us incapable of placing the order, then yes, everyone else's money will be refunded.

There will come a point of no return, when all of the money collected gets handed over to make the chip purchase. From that point, refunds will no longer be available as we will no longer have the money to refund. I will announce when this is going to happen and give people the opportunity to pull out if they want to. But i think if we stay on target and get things happening as quickly as we can, we should still be able to get things going before the difficulty gets super crazy, that said, we did just hit 50000000. Crazy times. Anyways, hopefully we wont have a mad rush of last minute pull outs. See how we go.

Cheers.

Anything further required to be sent (via email/pm) after a paypal transaction has been completed?

Thanks!

No, seeing as the paypal transaction contains your email address, shipping address and details of the order. Thats pretty much all i need. I will also be needing shipping details once i get that side of things sorted. I will add shipping details into the paypal order once its sorted. For all those who have already paid, we will have to sort out another payment for shipping down the track. Will get that sorted soon.

Hey guys, in the email form, what do we need to put as the "Sending Address"?

Googling it just made me more confused lol. Is it just the address we send the BTC to? Or is there a specific address on the transaction's blockchain.info page that I need to quote? Huh

Thanks. Smiley

EDIT: It's just whatever my main receiving address is isn't it?

Hi flemeister (or can I call u flemmy),

Yes it just the address from which you sent the BTC's from (if you only have one address - it would be your receiving address). It helps in the verification process. Also don't forget to get the TX id.

I just went through this process myself.

Cheers
nexusflow

Spot on Nexus. It is the address your sent your BTC from. It helps me track all the incoming payments and know which one came from which person. With sending address, TX ID, and exact amount sent, it is nice and clear which payments come from which people.  Smiley

Watching. Will buy one 8 chip board for $300 this month. Any shipping fees to singapore?
Regards
EP

General apologies guys on getting shipping details up on the page. Things have been pretty hectic on this end. It is on my list and i'll get to it as soon as i can. Probably this weekend or early next week. I'll make up a table of available shipping options.

Heya! I sent you an email with details after I paid you $300 over Mt.Gox.

Just in case you didn't see that, I have a few questions:

How will paying for international shipping work?
Do you have a rough estimate of shipping costs to Canada?
For shipping type , what should I put? Could you elaborate on the types of shipping available if possible?

Thanks   Cheesy

Yes i did get your payment armed. All good.

Shipping cost worldwide will be in the general range of $50 - $100 depending on how many units you are having shipped and the shipping type chosen. Shipping types will range from normal shipping, registered post, expedited delivery etc, each costing a different price. Full details on shipping options coming soon. Thanks for your patience on this.
