What about those next gen Avalon chips for sale now? 24BTC for 500 seems a bit high but it will likely drop soon since no one is bidding anyway. Maybe Barntech should request a free set of sample chips http://avalon-asic.us5.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=238a9ecd2e5192e3cd3ace26d&id=66a64ac414&e=d106924af8

They are more than bitfury chips on a $/Gh and a W/Gh basis, not sure why anyone would use them. Especially given Yifu's track record

With Blades now at 0.8 per 10G/H it really must be time for bitfurry to reduce chip prices and meet the market. If barntech is up for it and bitfury plays ball there is a good opportunity here for a couple of speedy batches@ discount. I would much prefer more drillbits than blades but hayho.
Don't hold your breath for lower prices from BitFury.  Buzzdave has an odd few of lowering prices to meet difficulty increases.....he doesn't believe in it.  That's why h-boards are still $500.  I think, like ASICMINER, he has the option to just mine himself.  So if he can't get a good profit margin from selling the gear he will just mine with it.

Barn,

If we want to ADD items to our existing order, do we need to fill out that order form on the drillbit website? No offense to the creator, but it could be better... Kinda looking for another price drop as well... Smiley

Thanks!

I want to buy at least 2 more boards... but I am saving up BTC for it. If the board were around 220 bucks it would be more appealing. I cant wait for the one I have on order though.
Me too but I wouldn't be ready yet.

220 is a nice number but it won't stick with btc rate rising regualrly.

maybe with the potential of shipping paypal will be an option for future orders then  can have a nice payment plan option.

I'd be up for another board or so if there was a price drop.   Grin

Pity cex and ghash is now too expensive. I had my fun with virtual hardware. Made more trading than mining lol
The big farms have no future, aircon and other data center running costs will see to that. The ASIC manufactures pander to them, because there is less work to do when you only have to deal with one big client instead of lots of small clients. They are too lazy to develop a proper reseller channel like other industries do every day.

I thought shipping was starting next week and that that devices were being built this week. Either way I'll be happy to see my miners arrive.

The better an well built batch 1 and 2 are , the better and more efficient batch 3 will be when barntech gets to that point [and the more intention for me to buy again].

I feel given the degree of info from Barntech et al, and also the fact that everything seems to be running to schedule, its a shame that batch 2 hasn't 'flown off the shelves'.

Having experienced BFL (they still have some of my money!) and more recently Technobit (awesome product but communication and time it takes to dispatch etc are a little lacking)

If I had the spare cash I would definately go for more Drillbits.

I feel that until batch 2 goes, batch 3 is unlikely, unless an updated board etc is designed.

Cannot wait to get these hashing though.  80gh come to poppa!
Batch #2 was too expensive compared to batch #1. Remember we are in a market where prices have to fall all the time to keep up with rising BTC price and difficulty. Megabigpower screwed it all up with their unexpected 50% price increase on chip reels. I guess they didn't want any DIY competition to mine a coin that Ghash.IO could have.

Drillbit boards will have to be below $300US if they want to regain the sales volume. With the chips back at for $160 for 8 that's quite possible.

... These miners pretty much run

.... I would STRONGLY suggest to people non fluent in sysadmin work / scripting to not even attempt to run two config files or two instances of CGMiner on one Pi.

Never used a RasPi myself, but I understood they ran some form of *nix, in which case if the miners pretty much run, why not just setup two logins and run a cgminer in each?   That way all the config files for one instance are completely separate from the other instance.   You can run them via cron or some sort of autostart script so that they launch when the RasPi is restarted.

Well Its end of friday, I guess no production over the weekend, I wonder how far they got.

I would also like to ask what the final hash rate was before production and is it still being worked on/tweaked ?

and keeping with that theme is the firmware upgradeable over USB, If so it makes sense to ship ASAP and let us flash any improvements later.

Big Thanks to Jes and the team, I hope there will be further Drillbit products in the future..

Good questions and thanks as well.

So if we go for the 12v, the connectors on the boards will remain 4 pin molex, but the connectors on the miniplanes and doubles scrolls will change to 6 pin molex. On the miniplane, probably only one will be required, but we may put 2 on just to make sure you'll get enough power. The double scroll will have 2 for sure.

So, I just want to be certain. The decision is to go with 12v, so the main boards are using 4 pin molex, and the miniplane will have 1 or 2 6 pin PCIe power leads rather than the 24-pin ATX power. I will need a paper clip or a more upmarket adaptor to start the PSU. Is this right?
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.3431111

It looks like that ATX switch can't plug into the miniplane without a cable though, just by looking at the connectors?

I just strip a little insulation back on the appropriate wires and solder them together. Simples  Grin

Or you can get a scotch connector

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/10-Pcs-Electrical-Wire-Cable-Lock-Quick-Splice-Connectors-Blue-/190756218637?_trksid=p3284.m263&_trkparms=algo%3DSI%26its%3DI%26itu%3DUCI%252BRTU%26otn%3D21%26pmod%3D370920412294%26ps%3D54

from auto shops

You may have to trim out the stop with a sharp knife if it has one.
