So if we go for the 12v, the connectors on the boards will remain 4 pin molex, but the connectors on the miniplanes and doubles scrolls will change to 6 pin molex. On the miniplane, probably only one will be required, but we may put 2 on just to make sure you'll get enough power. The double scroll will have 2 for sure.


So, I just want to be certain. The decision is to go with 12v, so the main boards are using 4 pin molex, and the miniplane will have 1 or 2 6 pin PCIe power leads rather than the 24-pin ATX power. I will need a paper clip or a more upmarket adaptor to start the PSU. Is this right?

I've never really used Linux but logically speaking the simple automation of renaming in-and-out of multiple config files based on certain basic triggers or conditions shouldn't be rocket science on any OS.  Or do you mean more than one config running against one single instance of cgminer?

I think it is possible to have 2 config files with 1 instance of CGMiner or just running two instances of CGMiner. I was advised strongly against it and told to just use two Raspberry Pi's.
To a lot of people (non computer experts), scripting and sysadmin is a lot like rocket science. I'm an EX-IT expert, and honestly, it is just a headache even when you kinda know what you are doing. These miners pretty much run, but adding complexity in the way we are talking can be a real big headache when problems are experienced. I've worked on computers for years to know otherwise. Just trying to save others the headache.

I would STRONGLY suggest to people non fluent in sysadmin work / scripting to not even attempt to run two config files or two instances of CGMiner on one Pi.

Running MinePeon with it's GUI interface is about as far as I would suggest a Semi-noob to go. And even then, they have to know a bit with regard to Linux commands to get around. At a basic level just setting up the Raspberry Pi remotely (no monitor connect) can be a headache.

From what I remember months ago (as I looked into it), you can run both miners at the same time, BUT if you overclock one then I believe the settings will effect both. You can run 2 instances of CGMiner and then control each miner independently off of one Raspberry Pi. If you don't have sys admin and scripting skills, that will not be possible. I had sysadmin skills and won't even think about that now. You will have to check this but a very experienced miner related this to me and a bit more which I now forget. Oh, he also mentioned running more than one config file but that is a bit beyond me right now.

Basically, if the drivers are there it should work, the problem for obvious reasons is with overclocking.

I can see that a Pi running cgminer will run the Drillbit board on its own. My question was about compatibility - will having a bitfury burner board also running cause any problems? Driver conflicts perhaps?
What drivers have you installed that may conflict?

Hello

I am very pleased to inform you all that at this very moment the boards are all getting made. This is the last charge. I don't want to make any promises that i might then accidentally not be able to keep, but i'm pretty confident we'll be shipping next week.

We are going with the 12V version, so feel free to go out and get power supplies. Also, i don't know if I've mentioned this before but each miniplane and each double scroll has a connector for a fan, so with a full 8 board setup you will have connections for 3 fans. I think i'm gonna go with these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103090 but haven't decided yet.

IAS, i know what you mean about the size of the boards, much smaller than you expect huh? The fully stacked miniplane will be a neat little cube.

Onto boring admin stuff, i still haven't received shipping payments from quite a few people. Can everyone please check their names and sort it out. If i have accidentally missed you, apologies in advance, send me a message.

I went with the CoolerMaster V450S PS. It is the most efficient PS out right now at lower loads. Really a nice unit and built with quality (Think it is actually Seasonic technology). You are going to get power efficiency on a MiniPlane of around 92%. That is pretty insane for this price range (like a Platinum unit but it is gold). They run around 70-90 bucks, just came out in the last month or so. Also, the voltage regulation is very tight, probably will make a difference in overclocking (or I am hoping). All around a great unit.

I went with the Scythe Gentle Typhoon Fan 1450 rpm ( 120x120x25mm ). It is extremely quiet and is a ball bearing fan. Great great reviews and it puts out a tremendous amount of CFM. Was going to go with the 1800 but the 1450 does 46CFM which should be plenty. 21 dB is quiet, the 1800 is 28 dB, which is still quiet and does 58CFM.

I recommend 140mm fans. These have more CFM, less noise, less RPM, more reliable.
