That's why he is experienced gambler as he knows his limits and never try to cross them even he is gambling big also but we need to apply the same and have emotional control over our gambling so that if we are not winning atleast we don't loose enough of our funds while betting more and more in hope of more and more.
I believe all of us have our own rules when we play gambling and as long as we can stick to our rule, there is nothing to worry about because we will always know our limits and never try to break them. We should not let our passion become higher and controlling us because that can be dangerous to us, which is we can lose control anytime.
Playing for some rounds or games will be okay but losing for some money will not be okay
Hopefully, he can control his passion because when the passion becomes bigger and hard to control, we can forget our purposes playing gambling.
So far, I see he can control his playing and win much money, which many of us can not get.
Maybe describing him as an experienced gambler could be good as I still consider him one of the lucky gamblers.
Hopefully, he can share how to control his temptations because we always face them every time we win.
The "balloon" idea came into my mind. How about send him the money and let him play the game and if he wins, he will divide that win money to both of us hahaha

Guessing, I think most of the time he is successful in controlling that "passion" that you're talking about, but sometimes there would be those times that he will get agressive. It is true, but in his case, I know he knew when to pause and just continue on other time. That is the thing that I really want to learn so I wouldn't be lossing my balance.
The idea isn't new, there are peeps who are doing that.
It needs practice to control the "passion," as you said and that is not easy because if we do not have the power to control ourselves, I am afraid that we will follow the passion that can lead us to face another loss.
Basically, we can control the passion, but somehow, the other thing such as greed will come to us and tell us to play for some rounds which are not good for us if we can not stop right away.
Controlling passion will be our fight to manage our money, not to lose so we can play on the other days.
