We're using DokuWiki, I believe.  Is MediaWiki a better alternative?  There's more wikis here too, if we need to move devtome! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wiki_software

It really is just bots. About 36k accounts actually. But since registration requires approval,  they are just causing problems.

Overhead singing near the water cooler:

"Thirty-six thousand bots on the wall, bots on the wall, bots on the wall;
And if one should accidentally fall...
...there'd be seventy-two thousand bots on the wall, bots on the wall, bots on the wall;
And if one should accidentally fall...
...there's be one hundred and forty-two thousand bots on the wall, bots on the wall, bots on the wall..."

I'd just like to say a big 'thank you' to all the admins who are working to help restore normal service.

I don't have a crystal ball and cannot predict the future, however I'd imagine the worst case scenario is that the wiki is destroyed and all authors re-submit their work to another, more secure site. I'd certainly be in favour of expenditure on a robust front-end or even hiring someone to fix the problem, there's not enough hours in the day for the DVC gals and guys to be dealing with this attack. Kudos to everyone who is helping :thumbup:

Luckily, resubmission shouldn't be needed. When you run the Python script to get the latest information on word counts and whatnot, it automatically downloads each article and saves it in a .txt file (based on its title). This would be imported pretty easily I think, should that become necessary.

been noticing stable dvc price no more dumping.. what a coincidence lol no more writers to selloff the coin..I know I know ill go back to my corner. Just saying

Bitcoin's price stopped its upward movement.  I think that's why Devcoin, and most other alt coins, have stopped going lower.

Oh yeah. Because we could have all dumped the coins we haven't even been paid yet... So this "stabilization" would have happened either way. No one was getting coins for like another week or 2...

wow you guys got serious marketing problems. The idea of Devcoin is amazing! but the implementation needs help; If people knew more about the works being created on Devtome then yeah things would turn around, the music, literature, art, all that beautiful stuff people think of everyday... but can't because they can't make it by expressing their dreams.

Things need to change, Devtome needs to change, it needs to be more user friendly, more expressive in it's form like the people that use it, it needs people to be able to buy the works in Devcoins so that people can buy things not because they want the damn book or music or whatever, but because they want to know more, want to see more of that artists work!

 but help is limited I know, there needs to be a way to turn things around get more people being paid to do work to create the vision of Devcoin. I'll help where I can as I learn more about Devcoin and Devtome

and the bots are crazy... they are getting smarter everyday, It's only a matter of time before a programming, writing, art bot arrives.

I apologize for the delay. If someone has more db experience let me know. Trying to finish sorting out the issues alone gets a bit tedious.

Thanks for all your hard work.  Just as an FYI, I too am still locked out.  My user name on the Devtome is wiser.

I can't help on the database end, but as soon as I am able to log in, I can help some with deleting bot accounts and probably some other fairly well defined tasks.

Any closer to being fixed? I've been working on my blog, and in the past 2 days I've gotten more views than any 1 month in the past year (over 1,000).

Recently I've been trying to find developers to help me to complete colored coins client implementation, with no success: I'm now working on it alone.

How is this relevant for Devcoin: OK, since it is a Devcoin thread, I have to explain why it is relevant, so:

  • We can discuss colored coins on Devcoin blockchain: I believe it would be beneficial to Devcoin as it will allow Devcoin users to do crowdfunding and whatnot, there is a plenty of creative uses. It won't significantly affect Devcoin blockchain unless becomes wildly popular. However, there might be  a challenge in getting it to work on Devcoin chain, as devcoind is based on old version of bitcoind. (Right?)
  • I'm going to request Devcoin bounties (shares) for this project, as it is an important open source project (IMHO)
  • Developers can request to be paid in Devcoins (partially), in might be able to pay a bit more (e.g. out of Devcoin bounties), and BTC->DVC conversion can help Devcoin price a bit

I certainly would like to see coloured coins developed (as you know).  It will be huge in the equity-crowd funding arena which is imho the where the next big wave of web development will be.  Also, being a devtome writer I'm happy for Devcoin to be involved, it seems like a fitting project seeing as devtome is supposed to support all kinds of development, not just writing.  Hopefully devcoin bounties will attract programmers to this project.

Recently I've been trying to find developers to help me to complete colored coins client implementation, with no success: I'm now working on it alone.

I know that there developers well-versed in cryptocurrencies in this thread, so I'm asking here too.

Brief intro: colored coins can be used to represent ownership of securities or smart property; they can exist in existing blockchain (Bitcoin/Litecoin/Devcoin) and do not require changes to protocol; they do put any data extra into the blockchain they use, and so transactions involving colored coins do not bloat blockchain any more than normal trade transactions; colored coins can be used to implement decentralized exchanges for stocks, bonds, etc

What: We already have several working prototypes, now we need to make an implementation which is actually usable. This involves optimization, improvements to user interface, security-related improvements etc. The most promising implementation now (in terms of what can be completed quickly) is so-called NGCCC (Next-generation colored coin client). It is implemented in Python, has small code base, works together with bitcoind.

Why: Well, people were asking for a thing like this for quite some time, but complete implementation have been delayed for various reasons. (We actually had a fully functional prototype back in January.) Right now, BTCT.co is closing, and issuers are looking for a new home, so it would be nice to offer them decentralized exchange. Another reason is competition from Mastercoin: Mastercoin aims to offer something similar, but is worse in term of decentralization. So I think it's better to complete the good thing until the bad thing takes off.

The deal: I'm looking for Python developers who understand what it takes to implement a cryptocurrency wallet. We need to implement this thing as soon as possible, so I need developers ASAP. There is 70 BTC compensation pool, it will be spread over several milestones and will be awarded to developers proportional to their contributions. I'm also looking for JS developers for another implementation, but it is lower priority. If interested, please PM me.

PM your info if the site is not seeing you. I will get it fixed before I continue.

Jasin - tried logging in to delete bots and same issue. PM sent.

I'm having issues now too. Yesterday everything was fine. Now it says I have no account.
