Well this never happened before....

Had taken my BTC and BCH wallets offline about three weeks ago and placed them back in the vault. Thought today to catch up with the blockchains in case they needed to be used quickly. Created a new BCH wallet and once it caught up with the blockchain to my great surprise there was 0.03 BCH in the wallet; having been sent to that address  January 6th of this year. Smiley

$20 USD by today's price and $200 USD at its all time high after the August fork. This seemed like a very good omen. Smiley

That is awesome! I love those kind of surprises Smiley

Not to hijack by promoting a different coin, but I think you might enjoy this #cryptocurrencyeducationweek promotion. The DNotesEDU folks have hidden a number of DNotes private keys in their website as well as a few social media channels.

I also happen to think this is a brilliant way to get someone into your coin, as they would need the wallet in order to be able to use the found private keys. If DVC makes its big comeback, we could run a similar giveaway.

Anyway, all the info is on this thread: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/cryptocurrency-education-week-3281937

And I'm sweetening the deal a little bit here: https://steemit.com/dnotes/@wiser/cryptocurrency-education-week-is-on

yes, delete everything but the wallet.dat.

Thank you so much for the reply. That I know how to do (and have done many times).

Just so I know I'm on the same page, do I run the exact same wallet software that I currently have, or has there been an updated version I need to upgrade to?

Any devcoin software version should work if you remove the content of the subdirectories first.  I tested a couple on Windows and Linux and they all synced well.

So there is no updated version of the DVC wallet? That is what I'm assuming. I'm running the same wallet version I've had for years. It's about halfway through downloading the blockchain. So far so good.

Wiser: correct, the last release of the wallet should be fine as well as the preceding one.

Thank you for the confirmation. My wallet is still syncing--I'm hoping it will be all done by tomorrow.

Cool!  For anyone else needing a wallet:

So all is functional, lets get it back up onto the exchange and start on a steem fork integration?

I confirmed this!  It is working now.

If you start with an empty wallet, you will sync to present day.

CTYA

I am not sure if I must be doing something wrong? I have a new install, empty wallet and still it says no block source available. Sorry to be a pain but can you advise what I should do next?

no pain at all!

If you installed devcoin on this machine previously, you should find the location of the devcoin software and remove the directories in that folder

For example, on my Windows 10 machine, Devcoin was at c:\users\ctya\appdata\roaming\devcoin
So I made a backup of the wallet.dat in that folder, then deleted the contents.
Finally, once that directory is clear, start devcoin.exe again and you should start syncing.

As an alternative, installing the Windows wallet from devcoin.org on a machine that has never had the Devcoin windows wallet before seems to also work well.

CTYA

I'm about to give this a whirl. Would it work if I deleted everything but the wallet.dat file? I'd like to preserve my wallet file. However, if it truly has to be an empty wallet, I could at least sync up the block chain and then swap in the original wallet.dat. Would that work? Or would it be better to just import private keys into the new wallet? I'll be setting this up for tonight, so my wallet can be downloading the blockchain at night and not holding up my computer activity during the day. Please advise on the best pathway. Thanks Smiley

For developers, competition in the market now is a great opportunity, but it is also dangerous everywhere. Can DevCoin stand out from the crowd?

An open, running wallet is a node. Nodes can leave and rejoin the network at will. Upon reconnection, a node downloads and verifies new blocks from other nodes to complete its local copy of the blockchain. Simply open a wallet on a computer connected to the internet and you have a node.

Thank you for the explanation, I need simple explanations Smiley

I have had my wallet open for about 5 days now but as it cannot find a connection it isn't "running" as such so it isnt operating as a node... catch 22 again.

Back to patiently waiting for CTYA to work his magic

Since I seem to be seeing reports of recent wallets not being able to find any connections I am thinking hmm how come they cannot at least connect to dvcstable01 since as far as I know that host has been up reliably for a long time...

-MarkM-

Hi Mark,

Can you tell me how to connect to that node? Is this something I can do manually?
