I think it's much more interesting to have it done by consensus.

So do I - but this is a long way from being done by consensus:  https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/consensus

If 5.1% of users can stop the switchover then it's absolutely not done by consensus, it's controlled & activated by a small minority. The assaboutface way this has been done takes away any incentive for users or miners to upgrade which will only delay the switchover even more, if at all. There is a reason that every other coin done it by block number & this is precisely it.

It took 8 months to code a job that should have taken a couple of days & even then they done it wrong. Now it will take at least another 8 months for the switch to happen - that's provided that the last 5.1% even decide to update - otherwise it just wont happen at all. There's not even any mention of it in the ANN ffs.

A complete ballsup.

EMC
Oleg Khovayko, Emercoin CTO, told ForkLog the project’s assumed rivals were trying to undermine the company’s reputation with spam in Slack channel.
According to Khovaiko, the attacks are growing more sophisticated as the spammers mimic Emercoin’s official newsletters, and use a popular corporate messenger app for that purpose.
Thus, a user named buycoin sends out ads of the company’s solution based on outdated software to users having some relation to cryptocurrencies.

You can find emercoin exchanges here: http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/emercoin/#markets

I recommend the top 3 volume exchanges: btc38, livecoin and bittrex, btc38 is for Chinese, you can choose bittrex becuz bittrex is the most famous one.

Thank you! I have not trusted any exchange so far except one where I know the Staff, but I find EMC encouraging enough to force some trust into Bittrex. Not like not many has advised this exchange. By the way, who exactly are the developers of EMC in BCT? I am writing a degree job at Uni about blockchain innovations and EMC is one of the platforms I could include.

good volumes only here http://www.btc38.com/trade_en.html?btc38_trade_coin_name=emc

I like the base idea of this altcoin the innovation it brings in networking. The only issue I have is I find no one selling this coin.

Where could I buy it easily and from a legit source?

The only reason to do it this way is to increase the EMC network at the expense of miners. The devs know this & is why they are staying silent about it.

I doubt it is a ploy to waste people's hashing power. Anyone trying to merge mine does not even contribute to Emercoin's total hash rate until merge mining is active.

I agree with you it would be nice if people could see how many % of blocks were mined by the new v0.6.0 client and hopefully the block explorer will add a progress indicator.

Personally I just don't think it's worth being critical about their method of introducing the change. It won't be long until the majority of blocks are mined by the new version and also, I think it's much more interesting to have it done by consensus.

Just don't expect to merge mine until it is active - as only solo regular mining will work until then, and PoS.

We have to just wait until 95% are on latest client (which, as I have seen in some communities, can take an eon)

Agreed.

As there's no way of finding out the amount of users who are using the v6 client & the devs here seem happy to ignore everyones questions about the subject I've stopped merge mining it & shut down my client, as it's completely pointless until the switch happens - if it ever does at all. If it only takes 5% of users to stop the merge mining switch over then it could take years.....

Seems to me to be a cheap way of expanding the EMC network with merge miners who get paid nothing. Nice one Evgenij......

95% blocks created by the new version seems to me a sensible way to do it, otherwise the coin can end up on a fork.

As I understand it, you shouldn't merge mine until the switch has happened though.

No, it isn't. The "sensible" way to do it is the way every other coin has done it - by switching over at a certain block. This avoids the chance of a small amount of users (in this case 5%) stopping the switch from ever happening. There is absoulutely no reason to do it this way - it makes no sense whatsoever, especially as there is no way of knowing who has upgraded & who hasn't.

The only reason to do it this way is to increase the EMC network at the expense of miners. The devs know this & is why they are staying silent about it.

OK folks - I removed my accusation, you can also clean-up your posts so we will not fulfill spammer's needs.

No need to remove it. Undelete it. So spammer can also read that the community is aware of everything.

Why do you mass-spam bitcointalk users with this crap?

Please see http://forklog.net/emercoin-claims-spammer-attempt-to-discredit-the-project

There is a person spamming and I do not think they represent the Emercoin team or project.

They are fake. The same spammer posting it to all slacks as much as he can. craslovell update it in ANN thread.

Hey, can you EMC guys stop spamming the Expanse Slack, we have asked several times now and this is not acceptable, please have some consideration and respect. Thank you. I should not have to delete spam and block your bots constantly. Scam coins do that sort of thing, so, please stop.

Here you go CryptoClub, hasn't been translated to English at this time but this is what is going on: http://forklog.com/emercoin-soobshhil-o-popytke-diskreditatsii-proekta-cherez-spam/

On that note, I actually have a hunch on who might be carrying it out and some of their posts are on this thread.
