I heard newer better options are on the way and they they might never get a chance to become leader
It could be because EOS promised a new, faster and more measurable blockchain operating system than Ethereum that would allow users to build more decentralized applications more efficiently.

EOS has great potential to grow in future based on same smart contract technology but it can not reach ETH.Its in top 10 list in Coin market cap,although EOS seems good in technological superiority over ETH.It has a significant market cap.Its demand is also increasing,its gaining fame in market and its community is increasing.It can not be next ETH.ETH is ETH.EOS is good in scalability.It will take time for EOS to compete with ETH as ETH has covered a long distance to reach at this promising stage.
EOS seems to have a pretty good development and very fast, but I think EOS will not be the next ethereum, because there are many other altcoins that are better than EOS.

You are correct EOS has huge potential, they just need more users on their platform to testify their network. I see EOS as Ethereum competitor in the future and it's early to invest in the project.
I also think the EOS will be the next ETH, because of EOS to enhance the transfer times per second, so I think it is entirely possible to replace the ETH, but now the trend is still in the fall, so when stopped down, you should consider buying.

A significant difference between EOS and Ethereum is in the blockchain consensus mechanism and overall blockchain governance approach. I don't think so because EOS is under Ethereum's smart contract and the EOS' blockchain core is Ethereum.
In my personal choice, I pick NEO is the next Ethereum because it has it's own unique Blockchain core network and it is better than Ethereum actually as the transaction speed is faster and more reliable.
I think NEO will surpass Ripple's Market cap anytime soon and would be the third in terms of the most important Crypto in the market sooner or later.
I am not sure as if eos going to reach market cap of ethereum but it surely has potential. Many crypto experts suggest to see 100x in eos, and I don't think its impossible.
