There are many people out there who support ETH and believe that ETH will surpass Bitcoin. BUT I remain confident that Bitcoin will remain number 1. and nothing will surpass it any time soon. unless there is a new discovery about digital assets. other than crypto. but I'm not sure that it will be born soon. I think it will take more than 100 years for another digital asset to be found that goes beyond crypto or above bitcoin. something that you are not worried about can be solved with technology on top of a quantum computer.

so for now in the crypto era, Bitcoin is the one that will remain superior.
It's very obvious that many people are the fan of Ethereum and many people is also thw fan of bitcoin.i believe that for Ethereum to be populated in the society is as the results of Bitcoin. From the beginning it's Bitcoin that gives Ethereum the support of growth. Even when you said of the technology of both, it's quite understandable that bitcoin have more potential than Ethereum, so i have not the reason while Ethereum will make well than Ethereum.

With PoS coming and Gas fee finally getting fixed do you think that Ethereum is capable of overtaking bitcoin? Oh also there will be max supply for Ethereum finally too, or is this expectation of mine way too high.

Don't expect too much or you will be disappointed when Ethereum used to have the cheapest transaction fee Bitcoin is still dominant and will remain the dominant coin in the market, I don't think gas fee Pos and having a maximum supply can help their cause, Bitcoin has fully established itself and every halving it reached new milestones, this question has been going on since Ethereum launched 7 years ago, but the answers have always been obvious.

before you compair bitcoin with other coins or tokens , you must understand what bitcoin is. purposes of those coins which you mentioned is different. whatever it is dont compair bitcoin with other coins. ethereum or anyother coin cannot be compaired with bitcoin because bitcoin is the king of whole cryptocurrency world. all of alts depends on bitcoin. ethereum will pump for sure but wont take over bitcoin.

I don't think so, Ethereum will needs massive adoption that would take more than a decade to surpass bitcoin, and that assuming that Bitcoin adoption is slowed down. And I don't think even with the Ethereum 2.0 PoW will not make those possible in near future. My point is that adoption is the key.

I'm sure that ETH with its PoS and gas fee solved isn't enough to take over btc because most of the time these kind of thing usually have small influence in regard of its valuation.
if ETH wanna take over BTC it needs to create trend like NFT and the likes which gonna significantly increase the market capitalization of ETH if there's some big trend going around.
other than that, I don't think ETH could.

There's no way ETH could overtake the almighty Bitcoin. No matter if the features have been upgraded or improved from PoW to PoS, market cap, trading volume, etc., it's still treated as an altcoin (I mean a top altcoin) and will forever be behind Bitcoin (unless XRP might make moves like the last time it overtakes ETH a few times).

Maybe your expectations are just too high OP that you forget to weigh things right. First, bitcoin will always be the future of the crypto market, and that everything around goes to rely with bitcoin. Next, bitcoin is always has the highest value and so has the most valuable returns, so its always the people's best choice for investment. Although ethereum has its own bright future in the market because of its own high utility cases, but it will never reach to the point of overtaking bitcoin no matter how its network will be improved soon.

I'm still wondering how possible will ethereum overtake bitcoin, comparing the price of bitcoin and ethereum,  bitcoin price is much higher than ethereum by far. Comparing the demand of bitcoin and ethereum, bitcoin has much demand so I don't know how ethereum can possibly over take bitcoin.

OP is asking a question that he already knows the answer to, he knows that the question of BTC and ETH is not just limited to price and transaction fee and the question of which currency has more features. Bitcoin is something decentralized, it has an anonymous creator so people feel more secure that when they buy bitcoin they can sleep peacefully that the next day they will not be surprised by things like: " the creator of bitcoin said he no longer believes in the project so he will sell all coins that have ", with bitcoin you don't have this thing, but in the case of ETH and all altcoins have this dark side and that's scary

What will happen to Ethereum if Vitalik Buterin announces his departure from the project, it will not cause eth to die completely but it will be a huge storm for eth, possibly sending eth into free fall.

What we love most about bitcoin remains its completely decentralized nature, something that even no other coin on the market can do. It's really impossible for ETH to take over btc.

everyone has the right to have high expectations. but one thing we must remember that no one will be able to take over the position of bitcoin. although ethereum will release 2.0 with all the advantages but it will not rule out the possibility that ethereum will replace bitcoin's position.
we all here also know that the first crypto was bitcoin and all have acknowledged it.
however, it is possible that ethereum will be the second best coin after bitcoin and maybe its price will be half of the price of bitcoin
You are right, that the main position for Bitcoin has never been replaced by any coin including ETH, but the progress of ETH to increase its price higher to compete with BTC but takes a very long time to reach half the price of Bitcoin. Even XRP has reached the second rank of the coin before so ETH will not always stay in the rankings as the second best coin in the future.

Well, of all the altcoins in the market ETH is the closest to BTC, yet still way too far against BTC. No matter how much improvement they bring with their project, Btc cannot be dethroned. Simply because majority of crypto in the market paired their value with Bitcoin. Also, most people do trust Bitcoin than any other alts in the market in a long term aspect.

eth so far has always been heavily influenced by btc, so i doubt it could ever take over btc in the future.
there's always chance for eth to take over, though so far btc has always succesfully increase its dominance whenever there is rally coming for btc.
meanwhile eth always fight with other smart contract coin & alts in general like BNB.

Some popular YouTubers are saying the same thing, Ethereum is going to beat BTC only in returns not over ranking, just because ETH is going PoS and this upgrade will introduce cheaper transaction fee doesn't mean it will defect Bitcoin, to me its near impossible.
That's right! Beating BTC is almost impossible, look at the BTC market cap that is dominating them all and the gap is too far. If ETH goes up, BTC will not stand still, and we should not forget that the market only rises and grows as bitcoin goes up. ETH is about to move to POS remains a question mark for the future of this leading altcoins. It has not yet been confirmed that the upgrade will make it stronger, and there are varying opinions regarding it.

It's too difficult for bitcoin to be replaced by ethereum to become the number 1 coin, bitcoin has become the destiny of all investors who believe in bitcoin and because no one can control bitcoin, I believe it. and not the reason ethereum will migrate to ethereum 2.0 at a cost will be cheap and will quickly replace bitcoin, the question is not strong enough to knock down bitcoin

No one knows if ETH would able to manage on overtaking BTC in terms of overall marketcap and dominance in the market but to know that btc is the king of crypto then it would really be that hard to believe that

it could happen easily considering the community that mainly supports bitcoin is vast and big which it would really be hard that it would really be getting lesser support once ETH would becoming POS nor does fix
its gas fee issue.
I could say that it is really a very big improvement for ETH but i dont think that this would really be enough for it to replace bitcoin into its throne but well everything is a possibility
but this is something hard or almost impossible to happen though.

I don't think ETH can take over BTC.  I even think ETH will move down from the top 2 and be overtaken by more worthy altcoin.  The merge removes miners that which is the foundation of valuation of ETH.  As the mining requirement for a new coin of ETH become cheaper, the price of ETH will definitely become cheaper.  That may be the possible setback of making ETH POS, of course, ETH will experience a price increase during the implementation of the merge but eventually, I believe the price will find its place for ETH.

Did they say that gas fees will now be fixed and lowered after the update? I haven't seen that. Maybe this was the same as last updates they had. They only gave people a false hope but if let say fees are now going to be normalized, I still don't think that eth can overcome bitcoin because if it's possible then it already happened before when the fees in eth are still very cheap. Eth is a good coin but fees is the main issue on why many won't use the coin now.

Another thing to expect is you said the supply of eth is now going to be fixed just like in btc? Well that's cool and that's a game changer for eth but sorry ill still stick to my vote. Btc is still the beast.

I think in tes of how high eth could gain on bitcoin we already saw that high.  Next bullrun I think bitcoin lengthens the bitcoin dominance number.  Too many real competitors for eth now, when in the past there wasn't any good viable ones.
