A lot of people are saying this. The term "flippening" has been widespread across social media because of the several upgrades of Ethereum and its shift into PoS. But I don't really believe that Ethereum will be able to overtake Bitcoin. All these new upgrades of Ethereum will probably just make it a lot stronger especially compared to the rest of the altcoin market which are mostly made up of lower quality projects. But we'll never know for sure. My personal take is that it will not overtake Bitcoin but the gap will greatly be reduced.

If this means anything, I guess it's a good time now to also stack ETH.

I'm pretty sure that ethereum won't beat bitcoin, even when all of its current flaws have been fixed. other than that, I'm also sure that most of the answers from this are the same as mine. however, that's because currently ethereum is also still following bitcoin. the price of ethereum also depends on the movement of bitcoin, and that makes bitcoin the king of crypto. IMO, ethereum will be king for altcoins, but won't be able to beat bitcoin even though nothing is impossible in crypto world.

With PoS coming and Gas fee finally getting fixed do you think that Ethereum is capable of overtaking bitcoin? Oh also there will be max supply for Ethereum finally too, or is this expectation of mine way too high.
For me, this is impossible. This is already proven over time, even when Ethereum first started, most of the time Ethereum is always the number two highest market cap cryptocurrency.
About the upcoming update of Ethereum, Ethereum 2.0, you cannot guarantee that will be the key for Ethereum to become number 1.

Maybe in some aspects, Ethereum will number 1, just like the total transactions, transaction fees, etc.
You can track it here too: https://www.blockchaincenter.net/en/flippening/

It all depends on the merge. If it goes well and according to plan then yes ETH can become deflationary and therefore increase in value, another scenario you should keep an eye on is what if the merge didn't go as planned and "unexpected" problems happen? Will it be the end of ETH, and potentially a huge blow to the crypto market as a whole? Only time will tell..

Maybe switching to POS could increase the marketcap for ETH but I feel like bitcoin can never be replaced, bitcoin has been the king of all cryptocurrencies for a long time. although later ETH will have a limited amount of supply but bitcoin has already set the supply amount long before ETH was created.

It might happen as Eth is widely used on a lot of platforms these days so more & more people know about Eth. However, as it's using a different system with BTC, and I believe that PoW is a better option too. So.. will see...

I have never thought that ethereum has any chance at all of surpassing bitcoin but if anything the transition to PoS makes this definitive, on the surface PoS may seem to be a good option but when you really read about it PoW will always be a better option, and that is of course assuming that everything goes smoothly and ethereum can do so without showing any major issues, because if that happens we could see the price of ethereum going down instead.

Well at the moment the marketcap of Bitcoin is "only" a little more than twice the amount of the marketcap of Ethereum, so i don't see a reason why Ethereum should not be able to get the top position from Bitcoin sometime in the not so distant future. That being said, i still think that it won't happen in the next 1 or 2 years and also that it won't happen automatically. Even in this forum there are still a lot of Bitcoin hardcore fans that are saying that every coin besides bitcoin is a sh*itcoin but i think those people slowly but surely become less. If we just take a look at the functionality then of course Ethereum is already king.

i didn’t think Ethereum can takeover Bitcoin in any way. it can possible for eth to increase there position and gain more Market cap but is totally impossible for eth to overtake bitcoin price or bitcoin marketcap .

I think converting Ethereum PoW to PoS will not work well for the future, because we know that Ethereum can be priced at $1000 like it is now because Ethereum is a lot of people like it,
one of the advantages of Ethereum is mining and it is already being mined all over the world,
if Ethereum switch to PoS, then what happens to the miners?

I don't see ethereum taking over bitcoin. They are actually two different projects with different use case. Bitcoin has its purpose to serve which is a means of exchange and settlement of debt, ethereum on the other hand has a use case for providing smart contracts and it has been great at it.

I don’t think Eth can takeover BTC. I mean , I have often seen people claiming that using of ETH is more complicated due to it’s separate blockchain and smart contracts etc. On the other hand BTC is as simple as that.
We can also compare BTC and ETH popularities and marketcap. These shows how more people are attracted towards BTC.
Moreover BTC are limited in supply, this drives more people crazy about Bitcoins and hence they are fond of storing or buying more BTC than ETH.
So I don’t think OP, it never gonna happen.
