Better to keep Ethereum.It is the right time to invest money to ethereum. I believe Ethereum price will be huge long term.
With the current price of cryptocurrency now I believe any of the two being it Ethereum of a reputable Altcoin, will be a good investment.
I think its both risky and safe. Ethereum is a big and powerful coin but it experiencing high ups and downs. Altcoins is good because they are more stable but it's difficult to choose the right one.
I personally think that everyone in the world of cryptocurrencies has their own opinions and their own preferences. I can never understand the true thoughts of everyone. But I have a special hobby for Ethereum. I think he will bring me Good luck, I am currently holding Ethereum, and I am going to hold it for a long time.

I have been thought all the time that Ethereum is altcoin also. But it seems that times are changing. Maybe it is right to select Ethereum from the row of other coins. ETH coins are really very interesting.

What a noob question, it must be. What is ether ? What is altcoin ? Ether in itself is an altcoin and I do not know why such question should be asked anyway since the OP himself has already made all the decisions already as to altcoins being better than ether, but just in this case, ether itself is an altcoin. However, I get the gist, but the idea of investing most times is to spread around and I hope that would answer the OP's question.
The value of ethereum looks more stable compared to other altcoin, even ethereum is suitable to be used as a long-term investment because the growth of value from year to year continues to increase. But if you want to earn a faster profit you can trade short-term on some potential altcoins that have fluctuating market prices.

You better save Ethereum because Ethereum condition in the market price seems more stable than altcoin. Regarding price though I mention Ethereum is more stable, but there are times when altcoin can also be better. But for now you better invest Ethereum.

Personally, I think it is good to hold eth for long term if you don't have enough time to do the trading. Anf alts can bring us more money. But we need to be more careful and patient to make a good choice to help us make mroe money. 
As of now I prefer eth over some of the altcoins. Eth is the number 1 competitor of bitcoin. So I have a hint that eth will pump because of the downfall of bitcoin value.
I think that if you can afford to keep money for several years to get some profit that you can not count. So then you can buy Ethereum. For a long-term perspective, it's good.

I was even surprised that some people kept telling him ether is better when ether itself is an altcoin. If he had asked whether he should be investing in bitcoin or altcoins now, that would be a different case entirely.Nevertheless, it is entirely up to him as to the decision he wants to make, but in any real sense, it is not realistic investing in just one single coin or token anyway, as it is better to at least diversify so as to spread the risk as well as the profit and since a lot of the coins are always going to be doing better than each other anyway.
I think holding altcoin is more beneficial than ether but holding altcoin takes at least 6 months if you want to benefit because altcoin greatly affects pump and dump, whereas ether has less risk because its price is relatively stable and more often used to buy altcoin

It's depending on what trader type are you. If you are a long term holder, I think Ether is the best chosen for 1 - 2 years, but if you just hold for several months, just go for some good altcoins like ADA, ETC, EOS,... Just my opinions!
All cryptousers collect altcoins, buy and sell them and wait for big profit, but to take the profit and withdraw in fiat currency most used ethereum or bitcoin. I prefer to hold in ETH, its less risky and fast exchang.
