The scalability is the really cool thing! And the next January update has nothing to do with scalability. As for me sharding is a good solution, but the necessity to make it backward compatible makes everything much complex than it could be from the very beginning.

Do you think that Ethereum 2.0 will be able to competite with EOS? For me still EOS looks more interesting, new technology gives much higher transactions per second rate and that is very important for future use.

We are eagerly waiting for it. This present Ethereum is obsolete and I don't think it can fully compete again with new generation blockchain platforms. Ethereum 2.0 is highly needed if the platform don't want to lose its position and reputation in the industry.

Bitcoin capitalization is too high and unattainable for now for any cryptocurrency. Ethereum can beat Bitcoin in terms of capitalization only in one case - when Bitcoin capitalization drops dramatically. Theoretically and practically it is quite possible. If Bitcoin would now be in good condition, it would hardly be possible to merge it with ethereum now and form a new coin called bithereum.

I have big expectations for ETH proof of stake model. The development upgrades were postponed for too long and it was time to come up with something big. Hopefully they will release the upgrades on time as promised. ETH deserves new technical improvements.
