I think that XRP overtook ETH thanks to the cunning of the developers, who have a large number of coins at their disposal. That's good but lot of people still investing in ripple or XRP they have a Big trust on ripple which is ethereum can't reach that. But slowly ethereum getting higher for its price.

We don't need to care about the war between Ethereum and Ripple. In fact, whether it is Ethereum or Ripple who is in second place, this can't change the current bear market, and it will have little impact on the whole market, except the holders of Ethereum /Ripple.
I think the holders of Ethereum /Ripple shouldn't bother about who is #1 and who is #2 in the market either, because those two coins are not competitors, they are two different coins with different application, and their target audiences almost don't intersect with each other. Wouldn't be the Ethereum holders happy if Ethereum was up 500% while XRP was up 700% at the same time? I think they would. I hope so, because in my opinion Ethereum is too oversold and now few days before the hardfork happens people are buying more and more. After the hardfork the market should go up and start the next bull run.

Aether most likely will remain number 2 after Bitcoin, it definitely will never take the first place, but even now it is very difficult to say which coin could have shifted the aterium. Yeah, they are really working hard to take that spot and maybe in the future more coins will join the party and have a good competition with other coins. ETH is good, and hopefully it will stay on that position and continue to develop its own technology this is a great year for most of the altcoins and yeah ETh will lead them. You all know, Ethereum has lost its value so much and lost its market place. XRP has taken number #2

Investors Ethereum much more important how much is the coin itself. Only their income depends on it.
