The time has changed and we have to adopt it to survive this cruel crypto-currency world. Bitcoin is the present of crypto and it will be used widely on the internet. Ethereum is a new generation project and it has bright future. Now let's support both of them instead of comparing them. They have different usage fields.
That's also what I think. They're two different beasts.
There is much space in the cryptocurrency market for:
- a solution optimized for smart contracts (Ethereum)
- a solution optimized for medium-to-large standard payments (Bitcoin)
Both use cases have different requirements and consequences, for example, regarding scalability. So there may be never a "catch-all" cryptocurrency. A diverse market is also better to experiment with various solutions.
There is even more space, for example, for a micropayments-optimized solution (Iota, maybe? Nxt 2.0 childchains? Or something totally unknown for now?). I expect that in some years we will see about 5 to 10 leading cryptocurrencies with different security mechanisms and different applications.
