I dont think so Ethereum can overtake Bitcoin because there are only left 24 billions Bitcoins to mine. After all Bitcoins mined its price will rise with an unstoppable force.
People keep suggesting this will happen with you think it will not happen by chance. It is almost impossible. Ethereum is strong but not recognized as bitcoin. This belief will continue to build more investors and fans of cryptocurrancy in favor of Bitcoin that leads to the ultimate investment into Bitcoin. So you see here, the weight for Bitcoin will always be higher than the ETH.

There is a huge chance for bitcoins to be replaced by one of the cryptocurrency because there are a lot of ico's who are competing for the spot of bitcoins so we can say that there is really a bright future for cryptocurrency.

in the next year or two definitely not. they have too much difference in price and in the number of people who have invested their money in them. Ethereum ranks 2nd among all cryptocurrencies. but he will not be able to catch up with bitcoin.

I think Ether is more promising than Bitcoin
I think that it will not be soon, when bitcoin will end in production and then the era of the etherium will begin.

Ethereum is indeed a very good project, the value of ethereum also has the potential to continue meninkat and who adopt more and more ethereum. But I still trust bitcoin, it will not be easy for ethereum to beat bitcoin, and it will take a long time for ethereum to beat bitcoin.

You see, it's all about marketing and brand value. Branding of BTC is much, much better than ETH. It's logo resembles a dollar sign and a gold coin, whereas ETH logo looks like a dark Sims icon. Also, BTC is older than ETH, actually the starter of all this and when something about cryptocurrencies hit the mainstream media, it usally is told as a "story about bitcoin" so, for outsiders it's always bitcoin, not ethereum, not neo, not ripple. None has or will ever have the brand value of bitcoin.
For example: When an outsider listen to some news about "Alternate Cryptocurrenct Ripple just doubled its price"
He will interpret this news in his mind as "Bitcoin thingy doubled its price" and will tell the story like that.
This is why bitcoin will always be the leader.

It's early to talk about that, but I think it can happen
The real bitcoin as speak is always going to have more trust as compare to other coins and ETH specially. This trust will always keep building more and more investors and crypto enthusiast in the favour of bitcoin leading to ultimate investment into bitcoin.
I love ethereum because it is one of the best cryptocurrenct, but i dont still think that ethereum has a chance to overtake bitcoin as the best, and i believe that bitcoin will always be the number one cryptocurrenct until bitcoin is alive in this world.
In my views Bitcoin will always remain the king of cryptocurrency , we may see Ethereum replacement this year , Eos (Blockchain 3.0) or Seele (Blockchain 4.0) , we may see a lot of development in Bitcoin and ethereum this year, But no coin ever can replace the Bitcoin , If you talk about Blockchain Bitcoin is the First lesson (no matter how old or new it is )
This is a possibility and thus no need for me to argue it but i would rather like to state why I think it may or may not happen. If this is going to happen, then i will attribute it to the mass adoption of ethereum based on the fact that most projects are being developed around ethereum. If ethereum is not able to overtake bitcoin, the I will attribute it to the fact that bitcoin came first has therefore got a lot of consumers already.
Will overtake especially when the miner move to ETH. We know that BTC which can be mined are limited. I guess when the BTC are run out, BTC miner will move to ETH and it's will make ETH more popular and it also can make ETH price rise like BTC.
I really don't think about ethereum overtaking bitcoin both are good cryptocurreny and are at a high price either of the two you will earn money.
