No, I don't think it is that easy for ethereum to overtake bitcoin, it doesn't make sense, until now Bitcoin remains coin number 1, ethereum is indeed a good coin and the best altcoin, but if it will overtake bitcoin I don't think it can
You made me laugh , as the year is bearish and everyone can see no coin going to their ATH for time being, you are dreaming of eth to over take btc with $6000+ currently and eth that is sure will not touch it's ATH of $1500+ this year , do you see any thing to really make it happen or you just wake up from a dream .
As we all can see that the current condition is that Bitcoin is still the top cryptocurrency. while Ethereum does seems at the edge of its price declining.

I don't think its gonna happen since a lot of competitors of ETH are on the move and much better technology.

yes that's true, bitcoin is still the best than others. I don't think there will be crypto that surpasses it even though ethereum is a platform that is widely used by other crypto. ethereum's development is indeed good, but to go beyond bitcoin I think it will be very difficult even impossible.

For me ethereum would not be overtake bitcoin as you can see that their prices in the market was so big difference between them, bitcoin is the king of crypto currency because of huge of price and have a strong platform and blockchain technology.
Even though we have seen the fast growth of Ethereum coin and how far its goes today, still in my own opinion, it cannot surpass or overtake bitcoin because for me bitcoin is the king of all the coin and it is undisputed coin and it has lots of achievements and accomplishment that no other coin did.
Its stupid to dump bitcoin for ethereum when ethereum have not make it to number one on the list yet ,moreover I'm not o sure ETH will be the top on the list because tron and EOS are trying to drag ETH down the list ,nothing is impossible but ETH will have to improve in some areas to be the 1st
Ethereum have a good market and it's very promising and good thats why mostly altcoins dealing payments in Ethereum but bitcoin is a founder member of crypto market and no replacement of it so i don't think so that ethereum will over take bitcoin.
I do not think that it will happen very soon. Ethereum will go after Bitcoin all the time. However, I still have great hope that in 2019 or a bit later, the price of this stunning token will go to the Moon.

It seems to me that Bitcoin stands firmly on its feet and will not allow any coin to come forward!

i do not think ethereum will do that. although i like to use ethereum, i do not believe that bitcoin will be so easily replaced. i believe that both coins will have a good future. 
LOL. If there is some big altcoin that could overtake Bitcoin is Ripple. Ethereum today is trash and some holders are still participating FUDs. Ripple did it almost once then it is not impossible for it to surpass again. Maybe reaching its peak price again would make it superior than Bitcoin if the Bitcoin's price is still stable on $6000. But still hoping for Ethereum to recover at least $800 would be better.
Bitcoin will remain the leader of the cryptocurrency market for a long time. Ethereum is a good coin, but it will be until any other project offers better and more favorable conditions for creating smart contracts and holding ICO.
