I too came home in the morning... I've lived in this house for 51 years, I was born here. You see what is happening... We have wounded. People were there. Flats all destroyed(?)... It's impossible to live like this. Day and night we are in such constant tension, you see. Somebody, help us. It's impossible to live like this any more.
And don't believe that there are not people left in the town.

All people are here. Children... We have no where to go. We are not allowed to leave. None of us can enter Slavjansk or exit Slavjansk. And don't believe that we are helping or whatever... Thank you to the people who are protecting us. Big thanks to them.

Interviewer: Tell me, who got wounded during shelling?

In our house a young boy was wounded. He was wounded in the head by glass. We called ambulance yesterday, they put several stitches on his head, and then he was sitting it out in the basement of the hospital.

Interviewer: You are not going to leave the town, house?

No, we have no where to go. If only we could go some place...

Besides, we should not leave. Why should we go away from our own land? Excuse me. We didn't come to them, to the Western Ukraine. We are on our own land, and we want to live here, with our children, with our parents, with our grandchildren. And that's the opinion of the whole town.

Interviewer: Is there a place where you can take shelter during the bombardment?

Thanks to our resistance fighters. They showed us the way to the bomb shelters. All residents got together, very mobile, very friendly, people called each other. We all came together in the yard, and then they showed us... We wouldn't know where to go. Our resistance fighters were standing there and were showing ut the way.

Interviewer: So you spent the night in the bomb shelter?

Yes, we spent the night in the bomb shelter. Came back in the morning and started calling to the neighbours who weren't with us, so that they could come and see the house. If it can longer be called a house.

A bus carrying women and children from Slavyansk, including toddlers, was stopped at a border checkpoint by Ukrainian guards. The refugees managed to cross into Russia on foot and find new transport.

Local authorities housed the Ukrainians in a border city for the night and provided two buses for transportation.
