Bayern Munich just destroyed Arsenal scoring five goals with a total aggregate of ten goals to two and a real humiliation because i think this is the worst defeat suffered by an English side in the history of Champions League.Arsenal scored the first goal and won the first half, but second half was brutal for any Arsenal fans to watch.
Very true. I'm obviously really happy for the Bayern win, but up until the sending off - I remain unconvinced in a few areas: Vidal and Alonso just don't work together - too slow under pressing. Ribery, he's fine against less technical sides - but unlike Robben, his age is getting the better of him. Can't understand why Ancelotti is not giving Costa or Coman priority. When Robbery retire - they are going to leave a massive hole, because Ancelotti is just not planning for the future.
That is of course typical Ancelotti, which is why I'll never be a fan of his. Replacing Captain Lahm, that's going to be a massive blow if it not dealt with properly. Surely Kimmich at RB would have been a worthy cause for tonight? If Arsenal had the mental capacity to play top-notch for 90 minutes (like they did the first 45 minutes) - Bayern's frailties would have been exposed in these areas.
I agree the midfield could work better under pressure. But actually, I can't see Sanches or Kimmich would be improvement there. Yes, Alonso is slow yet his control of the pitch is tremendous. He has clever positioning. Vidal is a bulldog; when on fire, difficult to oppose. While the youngsters look unconvincingly (perhaps, should be given more playing time in BuLi). Only Martinez would be a clear improvement, yet he is is continuously patching gaps in the CB department. Good for us, Thiago is playing the best season at Bayern.
Rightback is a problem. Rafinha is solid but nothing more, nowhere close to Lahm. We must to live with this: Lahm's successor won't be a new Lahm. Kimmich? Who knows? But first, he has to play as a fullback.
I think Ancellotti selects Ribery as a starter because of his experience and, still, high quality skills. He had a very energetic 30 min, then faded a bit. Robben is in a good form, should be a starter. Future? Frankly, I can't see either Costa or Coman as Robbery successors. I would go for a classy winger in the summertime.
