So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
In my country the popularity of bitcoin is very low and the people dont even get proper internet nowadays. People are below poverty line and are least bothered about some cyber currency. Hence the acceptance is low here in my city but some other cities have been using it recently. In any case bitcoin is growing and more people will gradually accept it alongside its transactions but it will take time.

Every time I go to the bank I like to ask them if they have heard of BTC, most of the time the answer is no.
I do ask a lot of people about BTC.. a restaurant near me.. near ish use to accept it as well, I asked to pay with it, they said it no longer exists.. .... ...

Most people I find still have zero idea what BTC is unless they are friends with the likes of us.. I don't think we are even in early adoption stage.. we are in "the chasm" .. it would appear we are going to survive though... appear anyways..

I dunno just something I have taken note of.

Pretty much everyone that has heard of it assumes it's worth like 5 cents and shits themselves when I say it's $1k (Cad) .. we are in very interesting times with BTC.
So this means the adoption or awareness of bitcoin on your place is less compared on other countries or places on which they really differ. Some countries have high adoption of bitcoin on which most people or majority on the community do already  knew bitcoin which is a good indication of popularity of bitcoin, same as your i do always ask people on any random places and i got the same answer which is "NO"

They were shocked because they thought that you can only buy 1 btc, 2btc, 3btc and not just fractions of it. But making people shocked about a subject makes them interested about it. I think that it's a good thing that you're asking about bitcoins to people. The person you talked would assume that he/she is already late on the "trend" and bitcoin is a new thing. He/she will feel like he/she has to do something about it and thus conduct research about bitcoin. I would suggest that you go to a university and ask people about it. It's more likely that you found a guy that knows bitcoin there since college students tend to look for work online.

It's the same in my country.
We don't have many BTC users, and just a few merchants accept Bitcoin offline.
In whole country we have just 2 BTC ATM.
Most people don't know about bitcoin and don't care, honestly.
In fact, many people are even scared to use Internet banking or to pay for something online.
I hope that this situation will change but it will not happen overnight.

Same here. Nearly no ATMs available, the next one is a few hundered miles away.
Although some people have heared about bitcoin, I only know one other person who actually tried it once.
And I can not remember having seen a sign in any shop that payment with bitcoins is available.
So there is still a lot of work to do.
Let's get it on!

People may have known the word BTC but most of the non-using people will not be knowing what blockchain is or how BTC can be used and how it works. It will take time and Governments should think about it too. Smiley

There are many obstacles to introduce bitcoin to mainstream such as :
1. Bitcoin is totally different than fiat currency and people can't understand/misunderstood about bitcoin.
2. People can't accept (or just too lazy) to accept/use something different/new.

Even they know about bitcoin, there are thousand reasons why they don't use bitcoin and it's just impossible to convince them to use bitcoin.
I think the best way to introduce bitcoin is ask big company/services to accept bitcoin just like what steam and some IT company who makes more people hear about bitcoin.

I believe it is so different from one country to another. in some places there are a lot of talk about bitcoin and you can even see bitcoin in the streets and in everyday places you go like a train station when you are buying a ticket! so obviously a lot more people would have heard about bitcoin already!

but in some other countries there isn't even a proper place to exchange bitcoin with fiat and back. so this also obviously shows in those places far less people have heard about bitcoin.

I believe the only thing that can change this is more merchants accepting bitcoin and showing the famous "bitcoin is accepted here" sign.

yeah I agree with you , there are many people who have no idea about bitcoin
in some cases even countries don't have idea at all , literally I don't know anyone in my country who is using bitcoin except me
I  didn't buy bitcoin , I built my bitcoins online from zero and I'm now kinda satisfied
so yeah at this stage it's not even early adoption

No they don`t, we are in similar situation, all of us here. You are one step further then me, I don`t ask such questions in banks, restaurants, etc, I ask people I know, and people I introduce here and there in one part of conversation I add bitcoins in our talk.
Most people never heard about it, some people that heard about it its just one little part about bitcoins, they know its some "internet money, or something like that". From all this people some like to listen about bitcoins, some of them don`t, generally I didn`t found someone ready to work for bitcoins, to come here on forum and to try to build some rank. For them earning is too low, they don`t wish to learn and to slowly rise their bitcoin income trough various ways.

Not everyone but many already heard it in somewhere. Steam did a major work in this. Most of the gamers (which is mostly formed by geeks) know what a bitcoin is atm. People who farm farm farm and sell their shit on diablo/wow/dota or any other rpg's will kill this. They'll see it as a game Cheesy

I agree that Steam helped a bit promoting BTCs on their site because they are accepting it as payment method now. But I believe most population on the Earth doesn't know about Bitcoins yet, maybe heared about, but they don't know exactly what is Bitcoin or how does it work. There is a long way until everyone knows about Bitcoin... But sites like Steam can help us to complete this goal faster. If more sites start accepting BTCs it will be amazing and helpful

I should agree to this when i mention bitcoin to my friends or my workmates nobody know anything about bitcoin and the worst part is nobody want to hear it, some of them which is interested only active for a while and then never come back again, it's such a pity they missed the opportunity to be rich, so bitcoin still need a lot of our help to be acknowledge by other

Bitcoin adoption is still very low even among active educated internet users, the idea looks abstract to most of them, it takes me time go get to convince one of my educated friends to get the concept, though the investment in Bitcoin ATM is indeed helping

Well, it's not $1k anymore but yes, Bitcoin costs more than any other currency and still there aren't many people who know anything about it. It is sort of sad but at the same time if they all new, maybe btc would now be in taxes and without anonymity, because the governments would need to react on it and somehow make it legal.
what makes bitcoin costs more than any other currencies? i guess the fees which is required for every transaction is just about few cents or maybe you're talking or reffering about the price of bitcoin which are now quite expensive but hey bitcoin have decimal amount or even smaller units called mbtc, satoshi, and ubtc you can just buy and match the amount of bitcoin with your budget easily

@OP I agree with your position and its even general and not specific to your location. Over here the popularity is growing but not in the right direction in my own opinion because majority of people I know sees it as a way to make quick bucks and cash out without even really understanding the potentials that comes along with and the most annoying part is when you get to explain, they tend to show no reaction at all as whatever you think you know is gibberish to them...

in real world and in our city, not every people knows about bitcoin, maybe only few people with have often online. they just think what is that? they don't even think that bitcoin can help you to make money by investing your money and maybe they will think that your investing will be scam you in someday. its happen to me too in my city but i don't care, as long as i don't bother them, so i will continue with bitcoin.

and if you have spare time, maybe you can make some quiz or research in your city, and the question is "do you know about bitcoin?" so you can know how much people will know about bitcoin.
