Very happy for Lando he is such a good dude.
Verstappen said it will be a dry race even if the radar says otherwise.

Anyway, for sure it will be a fun race to watch if they don't touch at the start with Leclerc and Max at the end of the grid we will see a recovery.

With no rain, it will be probably an easy win for Hamilton.

Anyone else took an itchy punt at the sucker's special on G Russell to get pole at 433/1? Max bet was only 0.01 mbtc so that was fun! Wondering what the odds were for Norris, must have been at least 20/1 if this was his first ever!

Throw me your tips, people, ready to put in one or two big ones if the odds are right. And no, I'm not falling for Bottas again.

Congratulations to Lando Norris for receiving Pole Position in Sochi!
The first time in his career for McLaren.

Hamilton crashed into the wall going into the pit which could of cost him getting there as it caused front wing damage. So it was fast enough.
Now it gets exciting for tomorrow once more. Smiley

Man, seeing Mclaren, Ferrari, and a Williams for p1, p2, and p3 in the starting position is definitely a sight to behold. The crash of Hamilton literally costed him the race especially that he was not able to get his tires hot for extra traction and grip. I am definitely excited in this year's Russian Grand Prix and I do hope that Lando delivers!

In addition, it is definitely amazing to see two (2) drivers of such young age exploding with talent (Lando & Russel) as I do think that they will be the next generation of drivers that will dominate the sport very soon.

^ Lando Norris has used to kind of dry-wet track to his best by getting his first-ever pole position with Mclaren. Congrats to him, very well done. Also, I'm pretty disappointed with Hamilton Undecided, he finished fourth where Russell did a third. That crash was a big drawback for him and I hope he will recover from this so that this won't happen again. And I'm very amazed by the 21 years old driver Lando, he looks very promising, very eager for tomorrow.

Rain has just stopped with 15 minutes before the qualifiers to begin but the race track is still very wet so we could see some nice action today. I've also read that the rain could be back at 2 hours , exactly at the race of F2 Sprint so lets see what Sochi has in the menu for us.

Regarding who could win the qualifiers ...well...I think Bottas as he has nothing to lose and he still looks to take a victory for this year.

The (FIA) announced the cancellation of the last third free practice for today at the Russian Grand Prix, due to heavy rain that flooded the Sochi track. "For considerations of regulations and time limits, it will be considered that the third free Practice has been held," the FIA said in a statement, regarding the third free trial, which was scheduled for Saturday.
Regarding the possibility of holding the official qualifying trials scheduled for today, Saturday, to determine the starting positions for the drivers in tomorrow's race.
Michael Massi, director of races at the FIA, said that the priority today is to hold the official testing, and he did not rule out postponing it until tomorrow to be held hours before the race.

It remains now to hope that the rain in Sochi will not be the cause of such stupid events as in Belgium.
Hamilton seems to have forgotten how to brake in time?   Smiley
I look and wonder - his car pushed the guy who put the jack.  Then the guy fell ... Well, the truth is, without consequences.  The result is funny video footage.
Not a car, but just a bull. Grin

So Ferrari is bringing the car engine upgrade sooner then expected as it was scheduled to have the upgrade on The Turkish GP.
But for the case of Charles Leclerc he is going to get the upgraded Engine in Sochi so he is going to be starting from last place as he will be given a penalty for using more then 3 power units.
As for the other Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz he is going to be giving his new Engine as Scheduled for him before and that is at the Turkish GP that will be starting two weeks after Sochi.

I'm always eager to see car changes, especially engine changes. I wanna see how the new ones perform, But the Turkish GP starting in about 2 weeks, I think that Ferrari should have introduced the new engines there rather than here.  But the management takes the best decision for the team and I'm curious to see how these new engines perform. Also, we are hearing that we might have a rain-drenched race, so let's hope everything goes well.

Didn't realize they are limited on the number of power units a race team is allowed during a session. Lips sealed
But yeah if ferrari is upgrading their engines early then they should be penalized.
Thanks for the update on this progress on the ferrari team.
Also for the next grand prix, they usually have them one weekend after another but the Turkish being in two weeks after this one is kind of disappointing.
As it did feel like a rather long wait between netherlands and italy. Undecided

Vaccinized.. immunity level is full.
I still believe that we need to have off-track stuff to make the sport a lot more entertaining. I do not care if you hate Hamilton or love Hamilton, I do not care if you hate max or love max, I really hope that both fans would argue with each other like crazy (do not touch my golden boy landotho!!! lol).
Definitely Hamilton could be a great teammate to some and a horrible teammate to others, I doubt that Bottas would stay with Mercedes for all this many years and won world championships and become second and all that making tens of millions of dollars during same period if he really hated Hamilton, I am sure he would love to win as well and I am sure constantly being asked to give way hurt him but it wasn't enough to resign so that means it wasn't as big as people make it out to be. Let the drama continue so that we would have a lot more to talk about.
Off-track dramas are always entertaining. These make the sports more entertaining and spicier. This is what makes the hype of the game alive. You do have a strong point about Hamilton being both a good and bad teammate. That does depend on his teammate, right? For example, his rivalry with Roseberg compared to Bottas’ one. Yes, Bottas did win many things staying under his shadow but things went worse with Roseberg. Whatever happens with him and Russell - only time will tell. But I don't think that if some scenario arises where Russell wants to outperform Hamilton, I think Hamilton will try to resist that. Because that’s human nature, you don't want someone taking your place after you have achieved so much.

I don't think Russell will make an attempt to surpass Hamilton. From what I have seen, I think Russell will try to be in Hamilton's shadow for a while, win some trophies, and then when Hamilton is nearing the end of his career,  Russell might try to take him on and see if he could surpass him to take his position. He has joined Mercedes already having the idea in his head that he has to be the second man to Hamilton. And the driving skill Hamilton has, is far better than that of Russell any day. So maybe we are up for a great show from these two showmen and let's hope they have a good season.

F1 is back this weekend in Sochi. Looking forward to see what Max and Hamilton have in store now they have apologized for their avoidable crash.

Final race: https://sportsbet.io/sports/event/formula-1/formula-1/race/race-6143195507d5adb6bbd52611
the weather forecast says it will be raining all week in Sochi so I hope it's not going to be like Spa where we didn't get to watch a real Race.
I don't know if Sochi have a better track for not allowing aquaplaning.
But I feel no matter what are the conditions the FIA will not allow another race like Spa as it was It was unique, under the strict definition of the word.
But in terms of being able to pass, that's been a rather rare thing unless one car had a commanding advantage.
After their win last week in Monza it's possible that Maclaren will be more challenging on podiums.
Yes Dia7, let's all hope it doesn't end up like another race we had in Belgium with the final race getting cancelled. Yet the qualifier being a good one didn't write it off at SPA as a total loss for the viewers.

Updated the post with the practice 1 race and qualifier so being able to place your bets on the Maclaren boys are available for those two pre-race final around the old race track in Sochi now. Grin

The competition not only went off track but also in racing and mind games outside of racing every word that came out of the mouths of hamilton or rosberg about their teammates was pure dramatic gold. Over the years many even speculated that hamilton had the upper hand as he was more outspoken and outwardly confident between the two, and rosberg fell in line as the number two driver. The cars were so impressive though if we wanted front of grid drama and action rosberg vs hamilton was often our only battle.

Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff said that they need to calibrate Russell in order to not create what happened with Rosberg and Hamilton in the previous years. I feel like they calibrate with Russell or not, that doesn't matter, this will happen again. This is what usually happens when you have two-star players in your team. This is a subconscious effect that Russell will want to out-perform Hamilton at some point in his Mercedes career and if he's not able to do that, he might leave one day as Bottas did.
I hope in no case that there will be a stable order next year, Russell is not a water carrier, and once he has the car under control he will not give Hamilton any more. Anyway my wishful thinking, the fight between Hamilton and Rosberg was the only interesting thing at that time. I personally hope that next year there will be a three or even four-way duel for the title between Verstappen, Hamilton, Russell and a Ferrari.

The rivalry between Hamilton and Russell will be an interesting one next year. We all know that Russell is capable of doing very well with Mercedes next year. But his only drawback would be Hamilton-his teammate. So I'm guessing it is only a matter of time before the two get on in a clash between themselves. Maybe a better rivalry than Rosberg and Hamilton? Very excited about this one.

It is very difficult to assess this, Rosberg had once said in an interview Hamilton is a very difficult teammate if you are equal to him. Not only on the track but also mentally, he plays his games to intimidate and weaken his teammate and opponent, Hamilton knows no empathy.

I remember a case at the award ceremony where Hamilton after a duel Rosberg has thrown the number 2 cap at the award ceremony.

Hamilton has likely only one more year in Mercedes and probably in F1.
Russel will be the new Mercedes's top driver in the next future.
I wish you're right. But I fear that this won't happen this soon. Hamilton likes to have some drama around him, this makes the newspapers write about him, show his picture, show his sponsors...
There are some 5 (maybe more) drivers now in F1, some are even my favorites, which should - sooner or later - make way to newer, younger ones. I expect Formula 2 and Formula E has quite a number of drivers that could fill those spots in the blink of an eye.
Hamilton already has a contract until 2023, which means that he will finish this season plus 2 more seasons after that. After which depends on how the next two seasons go. We all know that there will be a financial cap to the teams which will be a bit of a challenge for teams like Mercedes which spends more than bottom few teams combined, and then we have Hamilton who uses so much of that cap as well, expensive salaries for drivers will be biggest problem after cap.
As if that wasn't enough, we are going with brand new car design as well, which will make it harder for drivers to adjust to it as well, I do not expect clear Hamilton or Verstappen domination at the start of next season, which means that if Hamilton at his age doesn't get used to the car quickly, can't get as many points as we used to him getting, and still spends too much of the cap Mercedes has, then he may retire after 2023 reasonably.

Hamilton will try his best to make the best usage of the two years he has left in his contract. I'm not sure if the drivers in big organizations like Mercedes will accept a pay cut if the salary cap is implemented. And adapting to new cars will also be a new challenge to see, not to mention an interesting one. Let's see how the drivers adapt to the new cars. But Hamilton's driving skills will always be a plus point for him.
