Unbelievable to assign points with only 2 laps and moreover behind the safety car! I've never been a big fan of Formula 1 but this Grand Prix was ridiculous and disgusting to say the least.
Finished in two laps to cover their asses against the sponsors and to avoid refunding tickets. Really shameful, there are no other words to describe the Grand Prix of Spa in Belgium: you mean the Spa race was run and valid? That's fine, but everyone should be left with zero points, no more.

No. Zero is also unfair, since the teams have spent time and money.
They should have found instead some alternative. I don't know though what would have been that, maybe Monday and refund for the paying fans.
With the current bad joke instead of a race, I would not be surprised if paying TV channels would even sue them.
I don't think anyone liked how the race was handled. Especially those fans sitting in the rain the entire time waiting for them to make a decision on how it was going to end.
I don't think they can be sued as they more than certainly have a clause put in a place just incase this sort of situation occurred.
Atleast the next one should have perfect weather conditions in Zandvoort.

I would also say that the race should have been held on Monday, but it is primarily about the money and no longer the sport itself. That's correct, zero points is perhaps also unfair, but also for all drivers who were not in the TOP 10 in qualifying it is actually unfair they had no chance of points, they would not have had to drive out of the pits, right?

The biggest farce of Formula 1 in Indianapolis 2005 was topped yesterday, to shame for Formula 1 I think.

Unfortunately the race started under safety car and only took 3 laps as that was the minimum that they needed to cover in order to give half of points for top 10. However, this is not how everyone wanted the race to be but the rain was simply just to heavy and the circuit became too dangerous for racing. I'm also glad that Russel got 2nd place.

I'm happy for Russel and the second place, but is he really worth anything, I would have begrudged him the second place with a real race, but it is as it is.

How does that look with the bets actually if one would have bet on the 2nd place in the race with Russel?

About the race itself, I think it's shameful for Formula 1 to the paying fans on the track 2 laps behind the safety car only that you can say there has been a "race", the fans should also get at least 50% of the ticket costs back, there were also only half the points. Think that were also the only reasons not to have to refund the TV money and tickets if you had canceled the race immediately.

Come on guys , don't let this thread getting old as you all love F1 and I'm shocked that no one came here after the qualifiers from yesterday and made a post about it. We had one of the most epic qualifiers in the last 17 years and it was all thanked to raim and Russel who drove like Senna in the old days.
Race begins in 2 hours from now and I think Max will win this race but I don't see Mercedes having a great ride today.
It was the best race I have seen even if it was just a qualifier. Grin
I couldn't watch it fully because there were 4 matches in the EPL running all at the very same time and had my focus on those as I put some mbtc on them. But for those who missed it here are the highlights:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_CvS-dN99Y
Norris crashing out and making his car look like a submarine was the best part for me. Just glad he was okay at the end. It was due to the rain of course.

I don't think the problem is that no one wants to post anything (even though it was an excellent qualifying by Verstappen and Russel under difficult conditions), because there is another thread where people write and discuss about motorsport in general, including F1.

It is then difficult to write across threads and I think that is why most people stay in the general motor sport thread.
Their thread is spread across all the motor sports including Moto Grand Prix and anything they wish to talk about regarding automotive sports.
This one was intended just for F1 and their corresponding races at the professional level.
That's it really. But people can post where ever they wish too. Wink
And yes, the longest track in the F1 series along side with the constant down pour of rain made for no grip on the track hence the most difficult way to steer a F1 vehicle in those conditions.

Agreed. The qualifying session yesterday was incredibly good. George Russell is one of the drivers that I like the most. And I became really happy when I saw that he achieved a career record with this car by taking the 2nd place. If Verstappen didn't have a good lap, Russell was going to take the pole! He is one of the special drivers and I hope to see him driving a Mercedes next season. He deserves this more than Bottas, no offense.  Grin
That's why I took Russell as he showed he can handle himself on these slick straight aways the best out of all of them.
He starts pole so I put a fiver on him to win it. Only if Max and Hamilton manage to crash out of course. Grin

So apparently Norris had his gearbox changed after his crash on Q3 yesterday so had to drop from 10th to 14.
Unlucky for him because if he didn't crash he had good chance to get a Pole or top 3 atleast.
Stroll will start last after taking penalty from Hungary GP and Bottas also took his penalty and will start 12th he gained a spot after Norris changed gearbox he should have been starting 13th.
With high chance of the track being wet at the start being in front will help escape the chaos at the start I expect it to be like Hungarian GP all over again.
The race had been delayed for the past 30 minutes because of the rain and the visibility is very poor.
Hopefully they will start it soon.

Like as all know FIA , it won't be reversed and they already moved over the decision. However, the good part for Aston Martin still remains as for them they have 2 podiums in 2nd place as their first year in F1 under the brand of Aston Martin which is pretty great so far so maybe until the end of the F1 calendar, we might see an Aston Martin on podium again.

On Vettel's disqualification, Aston Martin have now appealed it, claiming there was enough fuel in the tank.

Hm, I don't see that appeal to be ending in a success if there just wasn't enough fuel in the tank. I would be quite surprised because that's just an objective measurement which has to be in conformity with the rules right? If they appeal now, are they seriously appealing that the amount of fuel was measured wrongly? Or are they arguing on moral grounds?

They weren't saying that it was enough fuel. What they were saying is that the sensors have shown that there's enough fuel.

Since the team's data indicated that there was more than 1.0 litre of fuel in the car after the race – 1.74 litres according to the data

As much as I'd like to see Seb getting that place #2, I don't have much hopes for the decision get reverted.

Yes I got that but what I was saying is how in the world could the referees wrongly measure the leftover fuel? That sounds too amateurish to be true in my opinion. Interestingly though what are they going to do when it is word against word? Who knows if it is even possible to prove in the aftermath which data is wrong? If Aston Martin's data says X and the other data says Y, Aston Martin would probably not manipulate their data just for a podium with no chances for anything else this season.

Perfect start from Norris and Bottos shoot out all two RedBull with Norris as shot.

Now there is safty car already after the first lap. The cards are reshuffled, but the race already starts badly for Max, no luck for Verstappen and RedBull. So already red flag... And restart later.

Man, that was a heartbreaking race for both the RedBulls and Norris. Man, seeing Seb finishing 2nd and going to the podium makes me really emotional as it kinda reminds me of his glory days in RedBull.

Nevertheless, congratulations to Esteban for winning this Hungarian Grand Prix! He was really consistent on this race and it showed his skill throughout the race. Lastly, the battle between Hamilton and Alonzo was a sight to behold- Alonzo still has it.

Without Alonso, Ocon probably wouldn't have won, Alonso was keeping Hamilton very well behind him until his braking mistake, that cost Hamilton a lot of time. Perfectly done by Alonso.

I think it would have won without Alonso too but I doubt Vettel would have been on 2nd position as Lewis was coming like a rocket. However, the ego of Alonso made him driving like he was back in 2004 in his Renault and he kept duel Hamilton for his position for more than 6 laps if I remember correctly.

I'm shocked after I saw yesterday in eau rouge in Spa ...that accident was horrible to watch.

Is FIA literally ruined Vettel race because he stood in dirty air behind Ocon all the race trying to overtake so I don't know if the speculation with his fuel giving extra power can be true. I mean , I can understand that they couldn't take the necessary fuel from it's fuel tank but to D/Q him just because of this seemed to much.
I can also say that Sainz worked a lot in that race and did everything to keep Hamilton on p3 and keep that podium for himself but if I were to chose a pilot who deserved the podium more than Sainz would be Alonso who drove on his birthday like he was 20 again.
Rules are rules, and it is quite obvious that the rules about fuel were also invented for good reason, because the less fuel in the car, the lighter it is, respectively, and the correspondingly higher speed it can develop on a circle. I am sorry that this happened with Vettel, but the requirements are more or less clear here and it is impossible to refer to the non-obvious wording. It is not entirely clear why Aston Martin was sure that after extracting 300 milliliters of fuel, there should have been another 1.44 liters left in the tank and how they are going to prove this. It's nice that Alonso at this age continues to show a high level of driving a car and it's not for nothing that Fernando was recognized as the driver of the day.

While this might be true, Hamilton' crash with Verstappen should have also been handled differently. If an event has tremendous impact on the race and it is a behavior that needs to be punished, the punishment should be in relation to what the misbehavior by the driver caused to happen. Vettel might have been lighter, therefore faster. But he got fully disqualified. Hamilton kicks out Verstappen, wins the race and probably the championship. 10 seconds penalty. Huh...
