I guess I am just sorry about everything. What's done is done. This is all historical for now. I only keep it in my sig as a reminder. I'll probably take it out. Where I post most of the time it isn't seen anyways. I will lock this thread after a few days.

Reopen the thread and redo your signature when you are feeding hungry kids again.

If you don’t do PGP, you don’t do crypto!
A funny thing:  I was just musing on how dealing with this matter has been a thankless task...

Thank you all. Thank you to those who have helped feed 4,920 meals over the years. Thank you to those who have helped me personally. And thank you nullius, I hope you do well in your future endeavors.

...and then, the first one to thank me was Dabs.

Dabs, as you understand, I was extremely reluctant to come forward with this.  I sat on it for two and a half years.  When other things came to my attention, indicating to me that it was not a one-off indiscretion, I procrastinated for weeks before forcing myself to make a thread about it.  Till now, the only thanks I got was some vicious insults and libel from others.

So—you’re welcome, and thanks for the well-wishes.

I have never asked anyone to beg for me. I'd do it myself. Privately or personally. I would also not do it publicly, except maybe this thread since I started it. If they did so, that was on them, I did not ask them to do it. Maybe they did because they thought they would be helping me or something? Why would someone else have to do it for me if I never asked them to? Was it to shame me or was it a sincere effort to spread the word?

That is an important clarification from you.  I will update the other thread accordingly, when I make some necessary replies there later—q.v.  (Prioritizing, setting this first.)

Some of your other statements may be relevant there, insofar as they may necessitate changes or questions.

The donation addresses are kept separate and any sent will remain there untouched until I find the time to do this again; or refunded. The respective organizations are still operating as far as I am aware. I do think that this thread will just be here, for history.

A question:  Is this still active?  You are currently linking to it in your signature.  I would not have bumped this thread, if you were not actively promoting it in your signature.  Also, goldkingcoiner also said in WO that you are running charity for children—speaking in present tense, not past; he even essentially accused D.W. of misrepresenting your charitable work as “begging” on your own behalf.  At this point, I wouldn’t rely on what he said, but rather, see what you have to say about it.

I understand that Personal is not Private, but I would have preferred that amongst gentlemen this be honored and your discretion is appreciated.

Dabs, as you are aware, we had no prior contact before the PM exchange fully disclosed in the other thread.  There is no reasonable expectation of privacy for essentially hitting up a total stranger for money.  That is against forum rules; why would you expect my discretion?

I did immediately forward it to another high-trust user, someone who is still active, just to get a gut-check opinion; the response was very negative towards your PM.  The sender of that response has a reasonable expectation of privacy.

I am quite strict about a gentleman’s code for good-faith correspondents.  When someone has a reasonable expectation of privacy with me, I tend to meet and exceed that expectation to an unreasonable degree.

On the flipside, I have a long-running thread to publish hate mail; and I advise the publication of attempts to draw innocent people into illegal activity.  Oh, and I will publish begs.  Usually, I should be more prompt about it than I was when the sender’s name is “Dabs”.

Being his kababayan(we from the same country from which he served as a man in uniform iirc), and someone whom he helped in the past(not financially) but when I get stuck with some things I don't understand here in the forum specifically in our local board, he is my number 1 go-to guy.

I am sympathetic to what you say.  As I said above, I was very reluctant to come forward with this.

In other threads, you noticed my attachment to Lauda.  From what you say here, I think you will understand this:  When I first came into contact with Lauda, I was down all the way in life.  Through misfortunes that were not my fault, I had become impoverished, homeless...  I never wanted to disclose that publicly; but I mentioned my bout of homelessness in PM to Dabs in 2020, now published in the other thread.  I also know hunger and hardship.

At a time when my life was broken, Lauda helped me put it back together.  I needed that.  She was like a guardian angel to me.  But I am pretty sure that if I had ever asked her to give me money, she would have probably issued me negative trust feedback, and cut all contact.  It was not that kind of help!  She knew that I am life-and-death strict about money.  I observe that she had me green-trusted and trust-included at a time when she knew that I was poor.

Thus, I definitely appreciate the value of it when people help others.  In fairness, I am glad you spoke up about your experience with Dabs; I don’t know him personally, either way.  As you understand also, I did not ask to be solicited for money; and I cannot in conscience simply ignore what seems to have been a repeated event, just because the user’s name is “Dabs” and he is highly trusted.  To the contrary, his high-trust position places on him a greater responsibility.

@nullius, Just like you, I keep contracts and business separate from personal. If we have a transaction, that is always in a separate wallet or separate address. Or maybe it was not you, it was maybe someone else? I'm not sure. I only use this one account for bitcointalk.

I understand that Personal is not Private, but I would have preferred that amongst gentlemen this be honored and your discretion is appreciated. However, this has been out there already since a few years ago. 2019 and 2020 I think are close enough in time to consider that it may be the same situation. If it were any other person, could be like a "tax year" or something like that. Much like a school year is usually spanned across a couple of real years.

Hi nullius.

Being his kababayan(we from the same country from which he served as a man in uniform iirc), and someone whom he helped in the past(not financially) but when I get stuck with some things I don't understand here in the forum specifically in our local board, he is my number 1 go-to guy.
I imagine myself in his shoes, and it pains me to see him do this. With pride swallowed having to share his misfortunes and ask for help. That is not easy, but it is better than steal.
I understand you see him begging, but what I see is a man asking for help. If you could at least spare him the insult, it would be a big help for him. And I will thank you for that. If you can't then, I guess Dabs just have to live with it.

Dabs is in a bad spot, so what?

He's honest and saying so... he's not faking it and looking for donations for other fake shit.

He said he needs help.  I'm confident in the past that dabs did what he said he would do.

This charity post is very old and he no longer maintains it because of his own issues... as I understand.

I am certainly in favor of your cause.  However it is sadly an oversold and often scammed sector, [...]

In conscience, I must finally let donors and prospective donors know about this, such that they may ask the appropriate questions:

These are excerpts of Personal Messages that I received from a user who has made a career of running allegedly charitable collections, and who runs an escrow business:

My stack is significant... but won't let me buy a ship like that .... yet Tongue

Hey there, hello fellow Wall Observer thread poster ...

How significant is it for you?

For me, I've lost everything since last year, but somehow managing to survive ... it's not easy.

I am hoping against hope that maybe perhaps you'd like to help those less fortunate than you.

Dabs

P.S. I don't know if you've read my little story here the past few months.

More recently, Dabs had someone publicly begging on his behalf in the Wall Observer:

archive.ph, Wayback:
[...]

You could donate it to Dabs if you don't want it. As he told me, he is in an uncomfortable financial situation and could use any and all help. Maybe WO should help him out?

Hey Dabs,

We don't know each other but I have noticed you in WO sometimes.. and came to know about your situation ( used Google translator in your local thread) I am sorry to hear that you are going through some tough time, life can be rough sometimes bro. Stay strong and keep fighting, Everything will be fine.

To sum up, sending a small amount to the quoted address and don't take this as loan or donation just one brother helping out another, that's it.

Thank you for your service, Dabs. I have this thread on watch mode that's why I saw you replied here.

Sorry for the off-topic post but I'm just curious about how you encountered and discovered Bitcoin? Or in general, bitcointalk?

I discovered it some time ago, not sure where, probably saw it on some website. Then I began reading blogs, websites, and this forum. Shortly after I registered this account, my one and only account. The rest is all here I guess.

On another note, I myself may need help. To put it mildly in words, I may need to feed myself (and my family.) If you or anyone you know could help please contact me for an address, or you could send to the one in my profile.

I've gotten myself into some problems, but I still keep everything else separate from my personal life.

My unit is a composite unit comprised of all branches of the military, including the "professional" corps such as medical staff (Medical Administrative Corps), attorneys (Judge Advocate General Service), and even Catholic priests and Muslim imams (Chaplain Service). Most are in the reserve force.

We conduct trainings in all branches of service as well. Special Forces come from the Army, the Scuba diving from the Navy, the plane jumps from the Air Force, and some scout sniper marksmanship from the Marines.

Reserve and Active Duty uniforms are the same, only some patches differ. I'm not currently on active duty at the moment, but my commander keeps my name on the roster as he consults with me from time to time.

Here is an old article (dated 2008) about a religious ministry that uses this same Vitameal for it's own feeding programs: http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquireropinion/letterstotheeditor/view/20080920-161780/Vitameal-has-no-dehydrated-veggie-mix

And a matching video on youtube of their program in action, dated 2011:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YW2oupDhlU4

The last time I was physically present in one such activity with the actual bags and with lots of children was way back in 2004 or 2005, but I have no photos or videos of anything then.

What I can try to do is go back on at least one actual mission with the bags.

To put this in perspective, here are pics of an activity of my unit done last year (2012) in a local school. It is called Brigada Eskwela (School Brigade) and here we repaired some busted tables and chairs, cleaned the the place, cut some overgrown shrubs and trees, and other stuff.

Working on tables and chairs:

With me in the picture:
Notice the scuba on top of my branch of service (Air Force) and the tank patch on my pocket flap.

With me in the picture and some kids (these are NOT the starving ones, these are students):

After the event with school officials and administrators:
https://i.imgur.com/jK5iptz.jpg

And my as of then, unsigned certificate of participation:
https://i.imgur.com/65nik2K.jpg

So you can see where I get the nickname Dabs from.

I will delete all these pictures and this post next month (or when I remember to do so.)

The unit does all sorts of humanitarian missions, we are all essentially volunteers, most are actually helpful and hard working. Some are in it for the firearms (they're always around), since all members get exemptions from gun bans while on duty; and we are effectively on duty the entire year.

In the picture above is a chaplain (with rank of Captain), he is a pastor in his church.

So what I'm trying to say is that I'm legit. The charities I mentioned are legit but I do not have photo evidence other than what I posted. Nu Skin is a legit for-profit company with it's own corporate social responsibility, yes they make money but the food itself goes to whereever it should go. Feed The Children is legit. The nuns are legit.

The children who are the beneficiaries are legit.

I do not know when I can actually go out again on a mission since the last time I did was several months ago, since I'm now occupied by work and family stuff, so I thought I'd collect the coins, buy the bags, then donate it to these orgs that have people that do this all day.

Here is where I will order and pay for the bag.
https://www.nuskin.com/content/nuskin/en_PH/products/pharmanex/vitameal/24113523.html

But I will do it in person at a walk-in-center near my area.

What I can promise to do for this first donation of 1 bag is to take a picture of me and the bag and the receipt. I'll try to coordinate and actual feeding activity one of these days, but I would need a minimum of enough bags to feed maybe 300 children in one day, or else it's much better to donate the bag to Feed The Children Philippines and let them do their job.

Again, I wanted to be a conduit for this since I can accept bitcoins and none of these charities do. I do not want to be in the actual activity since that is not my full time job; I will join one or some of them, but not all of them.

On a related note, I can probably start another bitcoin donation program specifically for my unit (all our medicines are donated, the doctors perform their "pro-bono" work.) particularly for the medical and dental missions, tree planting missions, house building missions, disaster missions. Those, I will personally attend because that's what I've been doing more often for the past so many years.

That and I get to carry (for you US 2nd amendment lovers out there.)
hello Mr dabs is this really your unit , you are Airforce and they are army how come they became your unit , and why are they wearing the reservist uniforms. Are you really an Airforce member or also a reservist

That'd be fun.

Been around in 2013 when Dabs started this and if he finds the time to do it again, i'm in.
Just let me know how much you got and i at least double the amount (because...one bag just isn't enough).

Are you willing to do this again? Its already been a long time. I hope you can start all over again, many are still willing to help. Unlike waiting for the government and NGOs to do this, they're only fond of doing such things when election is near.

Really hate those bastards...

As I've checked, VITAMEAL is still available.
