I also believe in survival of the fittest. If you, yourself, are in debt, it is in your best interest to fix that first. Take care of yourself and yours. When you are in a much better position, you can do more.

On the other hand, it is in our nature to help others who are in need.

Reminds me of the story about a rich person donating millions to his church, and a poor woman who donated pennies to the same church. The rich person only gave a fraction of what he owned. The poor woman gave more than half of her entire life savings.

Just because you can't save everyone does not mean you shouldn't try. Unless you are putting your own life in danger, it's not a bad idea to save someone else who is a complete stranger to you.

I think there is a saying that goes: give until it hurts.

Obviously, giving until it hurts must be easy for some folks to do, because they display such a painful expression when asked to give even the minimum, whether of finances or service. Don't worry, you’re not going to go broke by being generous.

And it really doesn’t hurt. In fact, here’s an encouraging promise: Give, and it will be given to you.

That profoundity simply means that a generous person who gives freely in order to benefit others is going to prosper. If you help others with the right motivation, you're going to be helped. When you refresh others, you will be refreshed. You reap what you sow.

Don't give simply for some tax advantage. Don't give expecting the recipients to be grateful. Most will be extremely thankful, but some may not only be ungrateful, they might even resent those who give.

So, don't give until it hurts. And, don't give in order to be admired for your generosity. Donate because donating reflects on us so that we would have the opportunity to be blessed and to bless others by giving.

Remember, donations reminds us who we are and what our relationship should be to others.

While there may be those who encourage us to give until it hurts, it seems that there is a much better plan. You give because it's the right thing to do. I think that it looks as though we should feel good, even joyful, about donating.

Please, please, don’t give until it hurts. Instead, give until you feel so good about giving that you might fall down laughing (all right, maybe not that happy). But, you get the idea.

I will right away after I receive BTC Smiley Glad that there is nooble people in this world. Faith in humanity restored.

I have always had faith in humanity. The good guys are out there, quietly working. It's only the bad guys get all the news and headlines.

Also you can advertise this charity in user signature space. If someone cannot or will not donate money, maybe he will donate his sig space.

Good idea. Although, you might want to advertise another bitcoin site that pays you, then you can donate some or all of those sig earnings here. Some pay anywhere from 0.03 BTC to 0.60 BTC per month, depending on post count and other requirements.

No thank you sir

Since my dad died I've been living in debt, so I'm keeping every penny I squeeze, no charities there to feed me, gotta do it myself. I do not believe in charities, I think there's too many people on this globe, and those who cannot make it, "should" die off, that's"natural order of life". You cannot save everyone. You shouldn't. My two coldhearted bastard cents. I write in this thread only because I am a pragmatic and like to (which is my flaw) preach pragmatism. There's too many resources wasted on logistics and other stuff. Every penny should be counted and accounted for.

I'll give you an idea. If you take your biggest local supermarket chain and count how many products are wasted/spoiled there daily, I believe you could feed 5000+ kids.

Free circumcisions? Maybe it would be better to avoid those, saving time, money and some foreskin? About free haircuits - every neighborhood should have those. Hair clippers are so cheap and easy to operate, they can teach kids to to that in schools.
Medically, those who get cut are considered hygienic. There are also cultural reasons. And the females (the ones I am aware of anyway) prefer their males to be cut too.

Some of these people want to get cut, but could not afford the proper medical treatment. They also want to avoid doing it the old-fashioned way with a giant axe or whatever it is.

@franky1, I'm in the Philippines. The price I get the bags are Php 1640. There is a corporate matching program, but need minimums to activate them, like 5 bags, 8 bags, etc.
24.75$ at the official site. While on other sites price differs. Maybe it is possible to cut out the middle man, cause I doubt that shipping could cost that much, especially in bulk. Also went through nutrition info, and it's not perfect. It's very good for 25$but not for 40$.For 40$ one could increase amount of proteins in that thing. Some nuts, even peanuts, and maybe soy. Philippines are #40 in soy production in the world, if google does not lie.

It is what it is, that's what we get here. Everything here is slightly more expensive than if I can get it from the US or Amazon or direct from the manufacturer. You have to understand that the ones doing the marketing and sales are using the network marketing or multi-level marketing model, and this is a 20 year old company. They cut out the "standard" middle man, but they put in place independent distributors who get a percentage as the middle man.

I can't change who sponsored me all those years ago (although people drop out of the organization and I "roll up" to whoever is still doing this.) I can't change the system. Someone above me gets 5% of whatever I do. If I change who that is, it simply becomes someone else.

What is clear, is that the foundation or charity gets to do everything they are supposed to do. The VitaMeal product is fully paid for and donated (and everyone who got involved in that gets compensated, from manufacturer, to distribution, to the employees who processed my transaction, etc.)

By any means, Dabs is a good guy, but if you're going to donate something, you should try to tweak this thing to maximize output.

Hehe, thanks. I have an idea, you could sign up as my "recruit" or be in my "downline", then you can do the same thing where ever you are, for the price that the company offers you the same product, be that $40 or $30 or $25. I'm going to get 5% of whatever it is that you do, because that's the way this company works.

I'd like to emphasize though, that this is as tweaked as you can get for a product of this quality, that ends up being completely donated and used to feed children, that is backed by a billion dollar enterprise, that has lasted as long as it has.

Re-read the full topic, want to make somemore comments, and a free bump, you're welcome...

First, why are people who can't even feed THEMSELVES making children? This is ridiculous. Nobody EVER addresses the root of the problem...
Exactly my point. It's like "kitten infestation". Some granny keeps non-sterile cat. Cat gives birth to 6 kittens. Granny is too soft, and decides to keep those 6 kittens instead of drowning them. 2 die to natural causes, 4 live on. In 2 years she will have 10+ kitten bonus every 3-4 months.

A: As a member and Officer of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, I also regularly participate in disaster relief efforts, search and rescue missions, medical, dental and engineering civil-military operations, free haircuts, free circumcision, feeding programs and other outreach type activities. We interact with local government units to host and sponsor these events.

The Force for Good spirit remains strong here at Nu Skin, as we continue to give aid to all those affected by super typhoon Yolanda (International name: Haiyan) which swept over the eastern and central Visayas regions of the Philippines. Yolanda, one of the world’s strongest storms on record, tore across the country last November 8 claiming thousands of lives, affecting millions of people, and damaging billions worth of properties, livelihood and infrastructure.

In the past week, our Nu Skin family from around the globe continued to demonstrate astounding support for the super typhoon survivors as they try to recover from this tragic blow:

• Distributor leaders present in the Southeast Asia Regional Opportunity Summit pledged monetary donations and together pooled a total of USD $87,000. In addition, other distributor leaders from around the region donated a total of $36,962.
• Nu Skin Philippines and Indonesia Stars at the 2013 Star Academy in Bali pooled additional USD $12,000 worth of donations.
• Nu Skin Southeast Asia corporate employee donations totalled USD $48,968.
• In the previous week, over $200k were donated by the FFG Foundation, Nu Skin Japan and Nu Skin Greater China.
• Nu Skin Philippines distributors and their customers have donated 2,285 bags of VitaMeal, equivalent to over USD$61,000, since implementation of the 50 + 10 Matching Program.
• Php 200,000 has been donated to the American Chamber Foundation’s typhoon relief efforts.
• Convoy of Hope (a US corporate charity partner) is shipping a container of 6,000 VitaMeal bags from the U.S. to the Philippines.
• Feed the Children (FTC) has sent over 36,000 VitaMeal bags from China to Feed the Children Philippines.
• Globally, for every five bags of VitaMeal purchased, Nu Skin donates one bag. For this limited period, several markets are directing their 1 for 5 or 10 for 50 matches directly to the Philippines. In Southeast Asia alone, 33,000 bags equivalent to nearly USD$883,000 have been donated for the month of November.
• In-kind donations received at our Ortigas Walk-in Center will be forwarded to Caritas Manila for their typhoon relief efforts

Through your generous VitaMeal donations, our local partner Feed the Children Philippines (FTCP) was able to distribute 17,000 nourishing meals containing VitaMeal for the first leg of our typhoon relief efforts. Among areas fed were Hernani, McArthur and Basey in Samar, Ormoc, and Tacloban. Aside from distributing the hot meals, which were prepared on-site via mobile kitchens, the FTCP teams also assessed the status of the areas, and touched base with local partners to be able to conduct continuous VitaMeal feedings in the future.. Local partners consisted of local government units, parish churches, and colleges, among them Divine Word College and Tacloban Redemptorist Church, which were taught how to prepare VitaMeal and were left with VitaMeal bags and ingredients to sustain their community after FTCP’s meal distribution.

The second leg of VitaMeal feeding and relief started last November 28, with 24 new areas determined for feeding sites spread across the provinces of Leyte, Eastern Samar, North Cebu, Capiz, and Iloilo. The target for this leg is to distribute 720,000 meals over the course of a month until December 31, and set up feeding stations in those areas.

It is not over yet. The NTC Vitameal 50+10 matching program will continue until December.  But already I would like to thank you all for your kindness and generosity.  May you be blessed a thousand fold!

Sincerely,

Melisa Tantoco Quijano

Hi,

I lost my original reply due to some forum problems, anyway I'll say it again:

I think the key here is malnutrition. You can indeed feed anyone instant noodles every day for months, for about the same amount of money. That's not healthy. Someone made a movie about eating McDonald's every day for a month (Super Size Me?). That's not healthy.

These kids are usually orphans, or effectively have no real parents or anyone else who can take care of them. This cause can also be considered hopeless as no one will ever solve the world hunger / malnutrition problem, but if you can save the life of just 1 kid, or make their future just a little bit brighter, I think the effort would have been worth it.

There are, of course, other organizations and charities that do something similar. If you feel your voluntary donations are better used elsewhere, please send it to them instead.

I only do this, this way, this particular set up, because it is something I can do, and use the "power" of decentralized currencies to accept donations, with as little overhead as possible. I can also accept fiat wired directly to my bank account. I don't think anyone is going to do that though.

Again, thank you to everyone.

Dabs I am making an app for Hive for you. This is what it looks like so far. Do you want me to change anything?

I'm sincerely not trying to troll anyone here, but 50$ = 30 days of food for a kid?

I can live off a less amount/month, and my bodymass is much higher. And I'm not even resorting to cheapest options here.
I'd bet food is even cheaper in other countries, than it's at mine, what's the deal?

EDIT: If you say that these kids deserve more expensive food, look at this another way - you can feed a lot more kids for the same price.

EDIT2: It would be even cheaper to feed people in large groups, by food produced nearby, and at the same time feeding local manufacturer.

Why do I get the urge to tell you to go feed the kids in a fully optimized way yourself then huh

There's always heroes around. Doers, not so much.

Wow.

I will update when I can, I am normally offline on weekends and just check with a tablet or my phone, not on a decent laptop right now.

Thank you to everyone. To those who sent coins, to those who are making apps, and to those who buy the coins. Thank you. I'm going to walk up a stage next year, but I'm sure I won't be alone.

First, why are people who can't even feed THEMSELVES making children? This is ridiculous. Nobody EVER addresses the root of the problem...

Well it's not that easy...what about if they had jobs/money when they were planning children, then later they lost it - this could happen to a lot of reasons...and so now they don't have means to feed children. Just think if you were in that position. Children don't deserve that, it's not their fault. Anyway Dabs, what you do is a very good and noble thing. Continue to do so...
