Basically, it is like this; Qatar is the host, which gives them a boost, Qatar faced some easier opponents to get ready, which gives them a boost, and it is said that there could be some bribes going on, which would of course give them a boost.

Maybe it is true that Qatar as the host will make a surprise in this first match. Besides that, I have also seen the match history of these two teams. Qatar won their last 4 matches, while Ecuador didn't have a good result for them in their last few matches (majority of the results were filled by draws).

I have seen the news related to the bribery attempt by Qatar even on BBC so I guess it is not only a rumour now. They must have really tried to do this but they have been caught. They tried to bribe 8 players from the Ecuador squad for millions of dollars. Even if it stays as a "rumour" it has already made me uncomfortable. I just hope that Qatar lose all of their matches starting with this one. Ecuador are already a much stronger team than them. Qatar may be the host country but I still think they will lose here.

I hope to see a decent World Cup in this country. We are about to watch a World Cup in November for the first time and we shouldn't be regretful about this later on. Besides I hope that we don't see another World Cup being organized in a time except the summer. It is always better for supporters and players both to have this tournament in the summer. It is good for players too because they don't have to deal with an extra tightness in their schedule with their teams in a season.

I am a person who believes that the match will end in a draw, but as you said, it may be more logical to stay away than to bet on this match. In the last 5 matches of Ecuador, 1 goal was scored, and he defeated the Cape Verde Islands 1-0 in the friendly match, and the other 4 matches ended as they started.
