Neymar took to Facebook with a rousing message for Brazil fans ahead of the World Cup semi-final against Germany later on Tuesday.

The forward is set to miss the rest of the tournament after fracturing a vertebra during Brazil's quarter-final with Colombia, and the news has been a serious blow not just to the team but to the country as a whole.

The Barcelona star, prolific on social media, took to Facebook with a rallying cry, saying that he wouldn't be at the game but that he would be watching as a fan.

Accompanying the text is a picture with thumbnail images of all his Brazil team-mates, as well as coach Luiz Felipe Scolari.

The message is in Portuguese but The Wall Street Journal has translated some of the key details:

"Today I’m going to watch the Brazil game against Germany on the outside. I’m going to be one more among the 200 million fans," a translated line read.

[...] In the Facebook post, Neymar said he has received thousands of messages of support since his injury which "made these last days less painful."

He may not be playing on the field, but Neymar still hopes to be a presence at the finals.

"I want very, very much to be with everyone (fans and my teammates) next Sunday in the field … at the maracana."

Brazil are gunning for a record sixth World Cup victory, and their first on home soil.

Why you say that bs? The last 2 games of Brazil the referees were clearly helping Chile/Columbia.

I hope Germany will win, but I think referee team will prevent a German victory.

Im with you, i think Brazil can get this one, btw, your bet site is kind of confusing at first, when you are registering, there isnt a field called "username" and then you think the page has an error while at the end the "username" is the email itself, you can correct it and i cant find the withdrawal buttom too.

Germany 2-1 Brazil

I think that both semi finals will be very close and that it's very difficult to predict winners!
All remaining 4 teams are very good, with a lot great players and very little details and luck will decide who win!

I think Germany is going to play it safe and hope it is not going to be nil nil at full time. If Brazil comes out ahead in the first half, it is going to be a great and fast paced game.

I'm hoping for a highly competitive game/ low scoring Brazil v Germany game and hopefully it goes to penalties to make things tense and exciting!  

I got a few bets on. Nothing that exciting now the numbers are getting down to the last few.

A draw or 1 team winning from behind would be great.  

Oh yeah, if both games finish during extra time I got a pound at 40/1

I will go with a European final but .. this will mean an European team will win on South American soil and this never happened before.

I hope it won't happen but i'm waiting to see how the referee will act in these games as I think they might help brazil a bit or a bit more.
