Flat earth people were globalists at first. All they wanted was a roundish flat-map of the whole world. Their problem hinged on the way flat maps of the world look. See a few, below.
Notice how the above maps are not round. In addition, many of them misrepresent the size of the actual land bodies of the earth.
Being globalists at the time, these FE people wanted something round, to match the globe aspect. But they also wanted something that was flat, like a map on a table. The answer, of course, was the flat earth the way the FE people are portraying it.
Flat Earth people weren't always FE people regarding their flat, round, map. But after time, they started to focus on the flat part, more and more. Finally they forgot that their map was round altogether. See:
It was then that they formed their cult, adding all kinds of weird things, like a dome with water outside of it.
Can't really blame them, though. Flat maps of the earth like the ones at the top of this post, are outrageously incorrect in ways. Simply Google "map of the earth" in the images section of Google to see many more.
