Madrid are reportedly ready to make a very fantastic offer to get Saliba, but I think it is just a rumour that does not have strong reasons for us to believe it, because after all they did not make much movement to recruit Saliba in the transfer market last winter, not even just Saliba, Madrid also lost a lot of their transfer targets due to the lack of activity they did to recruit players such as Alphonso Davies and also Jonathan Tah who finally chose to stay at their respective clubs, besides that Madrid and Ancelotti have issued statements before if they are likely not to recruit new players this season and maybe that is the reason why Madrid are too passive in the transfer market.
Anything about Madrid is just a rumor until they made an official announcement. They would never try to leak the progress between them and Saliba. This pretty much the same like Mbappe's case. They always denied any rumors linked to Mbappe, but he played for them now.
I see no reason to feel anything is so fake for them caused by they are always able in keeping the progress private.
At this point we need to remember that all of them are for summer as well, nothing is going on right now, and while that was a mistake for them to not get a good defender when they had the chance, it's just the reality. So Saliba move, even if it happens, will happen during the summer and not right now.
I am not sure who is the most expensive defender until now, I know 222 million paid for Neymar was the most, but that is just attacker, so I have no clue who is the most expensive defender, but no matter what happens, I am not so sure if Real Madrid would be willing to pay 150 or something for a defender, just doesn't make sense, they could find someone much cheaper. If they want, they could probably get VVD for free since his contract is up. I am sure that they can pay a lot more for his salary instead of paying for Saliba, that would make more sense and they would have a great defender without paying much money for the player as well.
