Lorient's defense was not good last season either. In 38 matches they scored 52 goals and conceded 53 goals. However, their defense is even worse this season than in the previous season. They have already admitted 35. If the defense does not improve, the Lorient team will not be able to get out of the relegation zone. I have no complaints about Lorient's attack. If the defense improves, I think their attacking players will be able to perform better.
The Lyon team was in the relegation zone for a long time. They have managed to climb out of the relegation zone by winning their last three matches. Lyon are now 15th in the table with 16 points from 17 matches. Lorient can also stay out of the relegation zone if they can win a few matches in a row.
I never said it was good last season although I disagree with you because you put it as if Lorient was bad, but bad compared to what? It is like calling out any weak team from any league for having a bad defense. They are just small teams with very low budgets, so I prefer to judge a defense in relation to the possibilities a team has. From that point of view Lorient was doing ok last season. Monaco is third in the table and conceded 22 goals. In my opinion that makes their defense pretty bad. But conceding 35 goals in 17 games is too hard for any team to deal with and that is why it is bad. If they kept going at this level, they would end up with almost 80 goals conceded by the end of the season, which would be far worse than last season.
