This is a way gambling addiction gradually set in and if not controlled becomes a norm. Once a lost or won bet keeps hunting and depriving sleep it starts throwing up ugly suggestions of possible win if the opposite was done and gradually it starts nursing ideas of increasing stakes for a quick recovery of losses and also a potential mega win. I try my best to keep all lost and won games in the past so i can keep gambling strictly on a fun zone
This is the start and yes this should address right away because frustrations on your losses that makes you sleepless is already alarming, though at some point this is quiet normal especially if you are just a newbie in gambling but its not ok if you already have the experience on losing and winning. I don’t have any thoughts to look back or to stress for on my past experiences, i do accept all the results in the past and I’m already moving on for a new experience in gambling, I believe this is more fun than to stress yourself.

This is one of the sign that a person is addicted already coz they will not came to the point that dreaming their plays if this is not bothering in their mind and for sure they keep wanting to play more that's why even at their sleep they think about this and this is harsh if things got worse so at early stage of symptoms maybe people like this need to control things and minimizing all things which they think exceeded already, also to enjoy what they are doing without noticing any harm on their surroundings.

Anyone experienced or suffered from this, whether from winning or from losing where a particular gambling session keeps staying in your mind and you'll having sleeplessness thinking about that particular session over and over again, the same bet keeps repeating over and over again and you keep asking yourself what if you do the opposite.
I'm glad I overcome this and I see to it now that whenever I'm login off to casinos I'm playing I will not think about it whether I lose or win.
This has happened to me several time in sports betting, but in all, its one that took me several days, even upto a week to get over it, this was a game I played and I was so sure I was going to win, and because of this, I betted far above the normal amount of money I was willing to loose, I had 100 percent certainty I was going to win the game, I was super happy and excited and couldn't wait for the result of the game to come out, eventually, the results came out and behold, it turned out I didn't win the game but I was very very close to winning, I was disappointed, devastated and angry, and when I thought of better things I could have used the money I spent on that game for, it made me more angrier, and for about one whole week, I couldn't get over this experience, the loss came as a shock because like I said before, I was 100 percent certain I was going to win, I couldn't sleep well at night cus the thought of the money I lost and the better things I could have used it for never left my mind.

Most times the gambling session that sticks to the long term memory are the ones your nearly won. Maybe you lost because of an insignificant match score or error. When this happens you feel very angry and sad that it become very difficult to forget. You keep on wishing that such error or scores didn't occur. Another memorable gambling session is the one you won unexpectedly. You keep celebrating especially when you are broke. When you are broke and you use a borrowed fund or your last cash to gamble and you win is always memorable. Like my friend won a bet after he has been sacked by his company during the Covid-19 lock-down. He still talks about that win because it saved his family from starvation.

I think it is a sub-conscious thing your cerebral cortex does to process the experience. So, we humans are built to experience Anger and frustration and also to process and to absorb shock to our systems.

When you gamble your brain releases dopamine, the feel-good neurotransmitter that makes you feel excited. The brain will also process that feeling to analyze it, because your body are craving for more of that "feel-good" drug.  Roll Eyes

So we "re-play" the event to try are replicate the feeling that was associated with it when we felt it the first time. (or whenever it happens)  Roll Eyes

I once had an experience where it kept replaying in my mind when I was a beginner in gambling. I wasn't familiar with a certain game but still tried it without even trying its trial game. I risked all my starting funds and lost them afterward. That was too unforgettable for me because that fund was supposed to be my starter fund. I wasn't able to sleep for a single night but just took that experience as a lesson later on. Research is really important especially if we're risking most of our funds.

I haven't experienced that so far and I'm glad that my gambling sessions didn't bother me though I have regrets sometimes. I guess having the right mindset before playing would be a good start for us to never overthink about our losses and winnings. There are really mistakes that we could commit in gambling but that's a part of our journey. It's fine to feel regretful sometimes but we shouldn't let our emotions overtake us all the time because it could affect our mental health especially if we're already having sleepless nights.

I think I'll just have it for over a day or two in my mind especially if it's regarding losing but after that, I know I can't control it anymore and will probably be gone with series of moving on. As a normal human we're bound to get away from it, though it will take days especially if the amount is huge and you need to think on whether you can earn or get it again.
This returns to risk, when indeed we are going to start gambling we also know what the risk will be. Regret always comes in the end, it's true because this is always human nature. But as you said, life still has to go on when indeed you have lost there it will be forever lost if you don't find a replacement and indeed what we have to do is make a new breakthrough again whether it's making something new or maybe challenging gambling again though I think the choice to challenge this gamble is not the right choice

There's not a lot that sticks to my mind after the session. Usually I just find myself doing other things after my gambling session because there isn't much to do if I let my thoughts dwell on something that is already done. If there is anything that stuck in my mind that has something to do with gambling, perhaps it would be my big win last 2015 on slots from a mere 0.01 or 0.02 btc to 1.5 btc. Was a crazy run and even had to fight for the casino to release the funds as they turned out to be a scam later on.

We are on the same page. Not only in gambling, but also about other things that I completed. I don't really like to dwell and overthink about something that I can't undo already. It just takes a toll on my mental health. Hence, I decided to stop myself from further damaging my health by thinking about what's done. I'd rather let my mind breathe by thinking good stuff and doing other things to keep me preoccupied so that I won't think about what had happened, most especially if it is a negative one.

After all, we can't really turn back time. If you lost a bet, then get over it. Accept that you've lost and move forward. Since we already knew that betting is a risk. Therefore, we must accept whatever the result may be. Whether it's a positive one or a negative one. And instead of overthinking how to win back again or sulking because you lose, just do yourself a favor and breath some fresh air to release the stress.

Yes, I have had such psychological states...

The brain is constantly analyzing situations of gambling, various options leading to winning or losing.  At the same time, the person is emotionally aroused.  Loses appetite and sleep.  This is very bad.

In fact, this is the first stage in the emergence of gambling addiction.  And then things could be much worse.  To change your psychological state and stop the running of thoughts, you can use alcohol.  Sex, a walk in the fresh air, meeting with close friends also helps a lot.

Gambling is just entertainment.

They should not lead to a deterioration in the quality of your life.

After experiencing a defeat, of course, the regret will still come, especially when we spend a lot of money at the gambling table, but still the regret will come too late like my personal experience when I lose, I often think "if I didn't play" and was determined not to gamble anymore, but strangely enough when I see a friend gambling for some reason there seems to be a strong urge to go back to gambling and it keeps happening over and over again until finally I can control that desire now after losing a lot of money Cry.

Depends if you won or lost.  Not being able to sleep and the scenario just keeps playing in your head means you lost.  Has anybody tried being stuck a lot of money at online poker and ended up playing way more than anticipated just to try to break even?  Those sessions are the worst.  I'd grind all night til next morning and be so fatigued.  By the time I go to bed, yes at day time, and close my eyes, I could still see the cards like the monitor was still in front of me.  Cheesy

In hindsight I was doing it wrong.  I played longer session when I was losing and played shorter sessions when I was winning.  It should be the other way around to increase your bottom line.

Occasionally there are sessions, especially on weekends where you spend more time playing and you have more funds to wage, its different when you are playing longer and you allocate more funds than when you are playing with a limited amount at a limited time, the longer the session the longer that you will think of the game, especially when there are missed bets that you could have won, it just sucks when you wanted to win badly and you have the opportunity but you missed by one wrong decision, and it stays on not only for hours but sometimes days.

That typically happens when people take big risk, gamble or bet with amounts they can't afford to lose/risk. If you're not sure about the right answer to a bet, then don't bet atall or bet with little (to zero) amount of money you can afford to risk. By the way, the is possible to win consistently in bets with enough experience, learning or knowledge.

Bet, but don't gamble.

It occurred to me back then when I was still stupid to bet the last money in my pocket. You will think of it until you fall asleep "what if you could turn back time and do the opposite?", maybe you won't be broke anymore.
But that's me being young gambling on the streets. Not anymore.
I think what strikes that kind of emotional event is when you have nothing left or those who went home and have the exact money as they did upon entering the gambling place. The "What if's?".

Those type of sessions only happens to me when the sports or tournaments i'm following have their schedules aligned coincidentally and at the same time, I get greedy by betting on more than three games per day. That feeling of desperation when you're on a win or losing streak is one of the worst experiences as it can easily get out of hand if you suddenly give in. The tough part is to control that feeling over and over since there's a possibility that it happens again in your upcoming sessions.

there was this one time I stupidly lost to a bluff on poker. not really a bad experience or anything but it does come to my mind from time to time and I giggle at my stupidity every time I remember it.

anyway, for other gamblers who experienced what the OP experienced, I hope you can overcome it just like he did. thinking too much about a bad bet can ruin your mood and affect your gameplay when gambling. I know it's hard to do but having a positive mindset might help you.
