Well, that's it for Werder. They actually fought for a chance and then lost 2 games in a row at home, without scoring a goal.
Due to their history in the competition I hoped they would stay up, but the reality is that this season they really deserved to get relegated.
~10 years ago they lost the UEFA cup final, they were on a downward trajection since then.
It's a bit early to rule them out completly, yet. Sure, they are in a bad situation right now but 'only' three points behind Dusseldorf. Also Augsburg and Mainz (and Union Berlin) are not that far away.
The remaining matches for Werder are:
Dusseldorf plays against:
- Dortmund
- Leipzig
- Augsburg
- Union Berlin
Mainz plays against:
- Augsburg
- Dortmund
- Werder
- Leverkusen
Augsburg plays against:
- Mainz
- Hoffenheim
- Dusseldorf
- Leipzig
Next match will be against Paderborn, where I'd say they have a decent chance to get a win. Dusseldorf has to play against Dortmund at the same time. Augsburg and Mainz are also facing each other. So next matchday they could level-up their points with Dusseldorf.
Sure, the next matchday will then be against Bayern. That's 0 points, pretty sure, but Dusseldorf also has a very challenging task with their match against Leipzig. Mainz has to play Dortmund at the same time, Augsburg plays vs Hoffenheim. All really hard matches for them.
Then on the last two matchdays Werder is facing Mainz and Koln. Against these two teams I don't see them chanceless at all. Especially Mainz is in a risky situation. If they don't win against Augsburg, the match against Werder could really become a relegeation finals for them.
But in order for Werder to actually have a chance they have to start scoreing again. Both their wins against Freiburg and Schalke resulted in some stong individual plays (from Bittencourt).
