I'm surprised by how much BTC this forum has gotten though donations.
Most of it was received when the price of BTC was very low.

Do you know any new VIP member or Donator join the forum recently? 50 bitcoin is quite a large amount of money.
I believe that one of the bitmain accounts is the most recent donator account and got the status fairly recently. I'm not sure who is the last VIP account however I believe it has been a few years since the last VIP received their status.

Yeah I highly doubt they get many forum users who got into bitcoin any later than 2013 are willing to donate 10 bitcoin's, and 50 I doubt ever happens these days.

Most of the Donator & VIP titles we see knocking about are likely to be either very, very early adopters when the price was low or very, very rich people who have more money than sense Cheesy

Or scam artists using previous scam proceeds to build fake rep to make more successful scams...

Hmmmm that's a good point, a Donator or VIP tag is very likely to persuade gullible noobs to trust them unfortunately.

This forum is like a minefield, scammers & scum bags everywhere. You have to be so careful.

Its not viable to spend 10 BTC for a tag. They would need to spend at least another 4-5 BTC for trust farming purposes etc, and scamming something over 15 BTC, is an impossible feat these days

Spondoolies-Tech paid 10btc to get a title (while owing massive amounts of money -_-), BitmainWarranty paid 10btc because there were multiple phising attempts every week and fluffypony paid 10btc to increase monero's credibility.

Its like you have two settings:

    1) Whining
    2) Whining about Spondoolies owing you money.

Wow, so, is it enough to make a donation to have the right to cast shit on the admins of this forum?
Anyone can cast shit at the admins of the forum, regardless of rank. If it's a legitimate criticism then it's listened to and discussed, if it's just some shit someone is spewing it's ignored (like that comment should be). Don't take it to heart, though I don't know why you would.

I don't know why the donation amount still the same even the value varied a lot. Why they couldn't make a lower amount which attracts many members in to the status.

That was Theymos decision , he said 10 BTC = 10 BTC no matter what and he is right actually , no need to compare it to USD

It is not stupid to ask. I paid $1,000+ for the donator status and know people who have paid more. It's an exclusive club and comes with a price.

I also have a BMW760Li which is not really that much better than the half-cheaper one with only a 3-liter engine. Some people perceive that they need status, and are ready to pay for it. Also some people are so rich that they don't need to care.

I encourage everyone to produce more luxury goods to the market and sell them at high prices, that makes life better for the buyers and sellers alike! Smiley

^You're not VIP material.  There are no shortcuts to becoming a VIP.
Prestige and honor are not handed out willy-nilly, young man.
They must be bought.

I heart this Smiley

Edit: Safe to say 'the forum doesn't need more money' is an understatement. Someone remind me: what round of spam-the-forum-up-with-skeezy-adverts are we on?

Yeah, its kinda strange that this has not been adjusted with the rise in bitcoin price.  As it is, the donation is not for someone like me who got BTC recently, but rather for people who were with it from the beginning.  I would donate something, but no way would I donate 10 btc (or 50!!!) at these prices.

So 50 BTC is ~ 12k usd, there are not many who can afford this, and even if I could I would donate it to something like doctors without borders.

I would however be happy to donate $5 usd or similar, but thousands to an internet forum is silly.  I suggest that either rates are adjusted, or new categories are added.

You can donate any amount you wish: https://bitcointalk.org/donate.html

The prices of ranks may seem silly now but won't be changed because it's unfair to the others who will have paid much more for their rank. I think theymos has mentioned the possibility of adding newer ranks in the future but it's not a priority or really needed.

It might not be a priority but nobody is going to donate 10 or 50 BTC now.
You guys would probably gain a lot more donations if you changed the 'Donator' & 'VIP' thresholds to somewhere similar in capital to what they were when they first came out.
I mean if 'Donator' status was for example 0.5 BTC I'd do it but no way would I pay 10 BTC.
Just a thought any way, nothing I say matters but you're not going to get many 10 & 50 BTC donations at this price.

Did you read what I wrote? The prices of the ranks wont be changed, and the forum doesn't need more money but feel free to donate 0.5 btc to 17RTTUAiiPqUTKtEggJPec8RxLMi2n9EZ9.
