Just wanted to give you some info on the akunin account you merited. 95% of his posts are facebook/twitter reports. The rest is ANN/Bounty spam like in the examples below:

after i read this ANN , i think this project is interesting, i hope this project will has a nice future
hello sir, after reading the whitepaper ,i think this project will has a nice future, i belive it, i will invite many people to join in this project,  because i belive this project is promosing
after read th thread ,i think this project will has a nice future
i think this project will has a nice future, i hope the developer active
nice project and very big gift , good luck ,i hope this project is will has a nice future
after read the whitepape , i think this project is an interesting, good luck

He is basically copying his own posts and spamming with them.
I found four cases of "i think this project will has a nice future", one case of "i hope this project is will has a nice future" and one case of "i think this project is an interesting".

I feel that this industry on certain platforms is very misled (social media). Too many commission junkies out there looking to use cryptocurrency platforms to suck people in which is scary.

So hoping to do my bit for the industry at least.
Yes, you are right about that and that would be a good point to focus on. New users think that a coin is good just because people are promoting it via social media and talking about it on youtube but in reality it just means that they have marketing funds to throw around and draw people in.

You can start by reading the rules.

RULES:

1. In order to apply you need to have an activity level of 50+ 30
2. Send me direct links to your posts that you believe deserve to be merited. 3 posts per user MAX.
3. Your posts had to be written prior to the creation of this thread - which means before 16/12/2018. Any posts after this date will not be considered.
4. No merit begging, merit requesting, proposing to buy/trade merits in any way. NO PMs, if you send me a PM proposing any of this I will not consider your application, your post/pm will be made public and reported to Mods.
5. I will only consider Newbie members who are making any kind of quality contributions to the forum. I have nothing against bounty campaigns BUT if 99% of your posts are in the Altcoin > Bounty Section / Thread Bumps / Off topic posts / Low quality / Spam / Nice project, good luck type of posts / you will not be considered.
6. Only NEWBIE Accounts will be considered, no other ranks. ONLY Newbies who have not received a single Merit will be considered.
7. Only posts written in decent English will be considered, NO posts from Local Boards.

I merited you for the post you provided but mainly for your overall post history.
Feel free to contribute with more guides and charts about trading, as long as they are yours. Do you trade a lot or are you more of a holder?

Thank you, it means a lot.

I do a mixture, I actually teach at the moment more than I am able to actively trade. I am working on increasing my time in front of the charts but yeah 100% aiming to get some educational content on here to help people out; I feel that this industry on certain platforms is very misled (social media). Too many commission junkies out there looking to use cryptocurrency platforms to suck people in which is scary.

So hoping to do my bit for the industry at least.

I decided to do a quick check on the first 3 users I merited to see if I made the right decision or not in giving them a merit each. Besides one entry in a facebook and linkedin bounty, where the merits and account rank dont matter anyway, all other posts have been non-bounty/airdrop related since receiving the merit. That is a good thing.

Excellent rules in place, this is a really good way to reduce spam and reward people, I hope you keep this campaign up for long, it's a shame so less entries. For all the drama of not getting merits, people have not replied here, I hope more people reply here so this forum becomes better.

This would seem to remove any abusive/illegal incentive for posting. Requiring that the posts be created prior to the thread, means that there would have been no possibility that the user is posting with this thread in mind. Maybe I am being naive, but this seems to be the important distinction; a very thoughtful rule.
Yes, I made the rule exactly for that reason. To avoid users to post/spam and then ask for merits. I dont know if that is the difference between this thread and the others that were not allowed and were moved to Off-Topic but it just might be.

Instead of going to create back our own thread knowing that they're going to be moved maybe if admin feels that we're trying to incentivize users by asking them to post and most of them start posting bullshit in lieu of expecting merits for the same, I believe we should help the ongoing threads only by allocating some merits to them only (as if our intentions are not to become self-Hero). Wink

Ahh, I believe I've found the differentiating factor between this thread, mine and those that are similar.

I guess you did not reported that user till now.
I posted in Meta in the Report plagiarism thread. Maybe it is not enough to be considered plagiarism. I can t remember if I reported him by clicking on the report button but I will do it now in case I forgot to back then.

Thanks for the suggestion!

The user steve57 copy/pasted the following post:

The development and expansion of Blockchain technology has triggered new opportunities in the betting on the sports industry. Together with a skilled team of specialists in the sports and business there is good opportunity to invest and  bet to  earn profits and make money

Original source:

He copy/pasted the first sentence from the 1st paragraph of the article and his second sentence is partially copy/pasted from the first sentence of paragraph 2.

...the only remaining confusion is why my thread and the others like it were ever moved/removed to begin with. I will be giving my thread another shot and attempt to be a bit more conscious of the guidelines and rules surrounding it.

I remember your thread, it was amazing! You put a lot of work into it. Check with theymos and give it another shot if he agrees. Maybe the rules need to be clearer, stricter, I am not sure what exactly the problem was but I am sure you can work it out after talking to him.

I made a rule in my thread that I will review only posts that were written BEFORE I created this thread! In that way there will not be any incentive to spam the forum by members who saw my thread and then try to claim merits with those posts. It could also potentially mean that some quality posts after Dec 16th wont get merited but I took that into account as well.

@Stedsm
I understand what bill gator is talking about. He put a lot of time and effort in his thread, I just checked it, it is a 20 pages thread and then it got moved/locked.
Your idea about creating a list for all threads in one place is good! I support that.

theymos replied to my PM and said that the thread is OK the way it is.

I'm very happy that you have decided to go straight to the horse and hear it from their mouth. It's not like I have any grounds to argue with what theymos is saying here, so I suppose the only remaining confusion is why my thread and the others like it were ever moved/removed to begin with. I will be giving my thread another shot and attempt to be a bit more conscious of the guidelines and rules surrounding it. I'll bow-out now and allow you to continue running your thread without any impedance. I appreciate going that extra mile and getting clarification for all of us.

The things you mentioned here due to which PMalek went on to theymos directly, was the only reason I knew that such threads are being moved to off-topic. Thanks to theymos for allowing OP and his intentions of helping out others.

What we can do now (an advice):

- Instead of going to create back our own thread knowing that they're going to be moved maybe if admin feels that we're trying to incentivize users by asking them to post and most of them start posting bullshit in lieu of expecting merits for the same, I believe we should help the ongoing threads only by allocating some merits to them only (as if our intentions are not to become self-Hero). Wink

- We can have all of this (like create our own thread) and keep it in off-topic zone only but create a list of all such threads that allow users to earn merits (there are already threads with such lists) and should draw newbies' and other merit-expecting users' attention towards such "list-based" threads. So, if we want to do it and admin is not allowing us to do so, what's the difference in having our threads in off-topic section only when we know we're doing good with a selfless motive?

This is very good, the forum needs such enthusiastic people, otherwise it is difficult for some people to become JR.

It’s sad to see the scarcity of candidates on this thread to @Pmalek’s initiative, plus the proven inadequacy of some of those postulants. You can’t really put it any easier than on this thread.

This kind of proves by example (therefore not an empirical rule though) that the amount of Newbie accounts that are willing to place a bit of real effort into earning a single merit is scarce in comparison to the number of Newbie accounts. Likely, those that are decent posters enough do not have too much trouble getting merit themselves on their usual posting routes.

I happened to bump into this thread just through casual browsing. I still enjoy lurking in the newbie area to see what new ideas and tips I can learn.

I obviously don't qualify for the merit generosity of @Pmalek, but found this to be quite an interesting thread to read! I have to agree with @DdmrDdmr. I reached the Jr. Member rank simply by looking for places to say things that were relevant to me and by remaining patient.

If nothing else, I think that this thread (and some of the merit begging that followed as a result) only reinforces that final italicized comment above.  But when Newbie level merit worthy posts do get buried, it is nice that they have a chance to get noticed and recognized through a thread like this one.

I will be bookmarking this one to check back later and see who demonstrated themselves worthy and who outed themselves as plagiarist beggars! Wink

Here is an update regarding my thread.
I PMed theymos and cyrus yesterday asking if my thread is against the rules, if I have to move it or if I can keep it in the Beginners & Help section. theymos replied to my PM and said that the thread is OK the way it is. I asked for permission to post a screenshot of those PMs and he agreed.

Unless instructed otherwise, I will keep this thread here in this subforum. 17 Merits are available for Newbie ranks who read and follow the rules.

Here it is:
