Back to gold  Grin

A friend of mine, who is into TA, told me he is shorting gold because he thinks gold will drop below 1000 USD/ounce...
Seems unlikely to me, but what do you guys think?

The gold manipulation is exposed now. Guess gold will start to rally again in the near future, no?

Sounds good, I'd say it makes investing in NMC a more risky, I think Namecoin's value is in the merged mining and the total hashrate, i haven't been flowing btcd much, do you think it could fly as an alt?
What are you talking about?

Btcd is an implementation of the Bitcoin protocol written in Go, not an altcoin.

If a btcd-like implementation of Namecoin existed, you'd basically get the advantages of all the upgrades to Bitcoin that happened since 0.3 that Namecoin never got.

thanks, I show my ignorance, I though btcd was a clone of of the Bitcoin protocol written in go. i'd change my mind and say that sounds awesome.
who knows Namecoin could have some benefits to Monetas.

On the up side, there is a good chance it will be integrated with Open-Transactions, for all those cool 2.0 Bitcoin type services, solving the P2P trust of individual identity in a decentralized and trust free way.
Monetas just hired two Go programmers to work on adding features to btcd.

What if they used those coders also to fork btcd and modify it to into nmcd - a Go implementation of Namecoin?

thx. merge mining set up.
Good move, although very slow this winter it was mining for me at about the same volume as bitcoin,  Sad

While Namecoin was conceived a bit early, (new ideas have solved similar problems more effectively) its still around and seems to be moving forward.  On the up side, there is a good chance it will be integrated with Open-Transactions, for all those cool 2.0 Bitcoin type services, solving the P2P trust of individual identity in a decentralized and trust free way.

Namecoin isn't a monetary coin.

LMAO for non-monetary coins.

namecoin is useful as it allows a decentralized censorship resistant DNS .bit domains

its a cool alt coin thats been out for a long time.

I wouldn't speculate on namecoin, but i can see myself possibly buying a few to get a .bit domain

I'm bullish, but not in the short term. If the gov restricts internet acces even more, .bit will take of!

i actually like Namecoin.  the ICANN decision is bullish.

i'd buy some if i could figure out how to download their wallet!

It's just like the old BitcoinQT,

is this their official download site and where are the signed files?

I've been using this guide

no, Bitcoin is not just about understanding the technical aspects which he clearly does.

it's about understanding Bitcoin as a whole; the technical aspects plus the economic incentives involved.  if he fails to understand either one of those, he fails to understand Bitcoin.

Absolutely agree. I meant he doesn't (even) understand economics, which is a prerequisite for really understanding Bitcoin.

So glad to see you posting again Zangelbert! This is a bullish sign Smiley

Indeed.  I noticed Holliday made a cameo appearance yesterday too.  Two of my favourite posters.

You don't need a wallet, just a private key and address. There are generators for just about every altcoin floating around.

actually namecoin is interesting from a theoretical perspective. Because it clearly has "intrinsic value" (by most definitions) separate from the monetary aspect (as opposed to bitcoin where the intrinsic value is not that apparent and intertwined with its use for transactional purposes) and makes the regression theorem work without having to bend it. This should appeal to gold-bugs and austrians for these reasons. The fact the gold-bugs are not jumping on NMC in hoardes tells me the whole "intrinsic value" argument is flawed.
