been harvesting nickels and pre 82 pennies for years here

I love coinflation Wink.  I sorted a bunch of pre 82 pennies by hand a few years back, but it gets old pretty fast, lol.  Its so much easier to just buy $100 boxes of nickels, lol.

Seems like a lot of hassle to hold $100.83 worth of metal, unless you get more than $100 worth of nickles for $100.

Not to mention if you wanted to melt them down it be more expensive than the gain no matter what form of energy you use.  I suppose if you have enough land you could chop down a few trees, but you're still looking at significant labor.

Its been as high as 8-9 cents melt value per nickel..  Its gonna rise.. I don't ever plan on melting them.  How much is the melt value of a crisp 100 dollar FRN Wink.

In 1964 they thought silver dimes were only worth a dime, today they sell for 21x face Wink.

I love to take down trees and buck em up,  hauling them around once you've done that part isn't so fun thu.. But I love to run my chainsaws Wink

Gas is pricey, try an axe Tongue.

If you want copper, just buy nickels..  They are 75% copper and worth more then a nickel (melt value)..  The only real money left in the US..  The nickel.. They are a bit heavy thu at 22lbs per $100 Wink

This is the first time I looked at this and you're right:

2.204 lb per kg

-1 nickel is 5 grams and made of 75% copper 25% nickle

So, 0.008265 lbs of copper -> 121 nickels for 1 lb of copper.

$6.05 dollars in nickels per pound of copper (worth about $3.60), weighs 1.33 lbs. Plus you get .333 lbs of nickel currently worth about $2.5.

-1 penny is 2.5 grams and made of 2.5% copper 97.5% zinc, so

-0.0625 g (0.0000625 kg) of copper per penny

So, 0.00013775 lbs of copper per penny -> 7,260 pennies for 1 lb of copper

$72.60 in pennies per pound of copper (worth about $3.60), weighs 40 lbs. Plus you get 39 lbs of zinc currently worth about $35

I'll let someone else do dimes (2.268 g) and quarters(5.67 g) both 91.67% Cu 8.33% Ni, but they won't stand up to the nickel. Why did copper decouple from the other two metals after 2008?
