Thanks for the updates. I would suggest trying to target two board setups, if time/resources permit. We could also pool together to invest in contractor hours / consulting on this, for a share or discount on PCBs, if needed.

1) a mini-miner, driven by usb, passive cooling, supporting 1 or 2 chips, something like this
   http://mineforeman.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/ASICMinerUSB.jpg

2) a full-strength miner with dedicated power supply, as many chips as possible for a standard outlet wall-wart supply, with cooling baseplate, fins, and fan

Cheers

From reading the Avalon webpage, I do NOT think that we need multiples of 10k chips.

http://store.avalon-asics.com/?page_id=9605

#7 - minimum of 10,000 chips, maximum of 200,000.

I would like 20 chips for me. Is it possible or "no time left"?

you're still fine. Please put contribution in BTC only not chips
I can send my contribution on Monday. Please keep my place in order list.
TIA

I confirm that I have been asked to escrow this, and will generate an escrow contract (with the address) when I get my escrow laptop out from the safe in approx. 7 hours.

Ok sounds great! I would like it done this way:

1. When there's enough BTC in the pool people will send to JohnK's address. JohnK will hold my 1% until I start shipping the chips and providing people with tracking information.
2. JohnK will order the chips via Avalon
3. JohnK will put the shipping address to my location and provide me with tracking information.
4. I will ship the chips individually to contributors based on when they pledged their BTC. (You will be required for any additional individual shipping costs)
5. OPTIONAL - I have been looking into building the PCB boards for these chips and have contacted some local engineers about this and we are pretty sure that we can build one once Avalon releases their schematics. So if you want I can build for you at additional costs for the parts and labor. But this is just for future planning purposes. Nothing is set in stone yet.

Hi. Can you please update my order to 3.17 btc? This should be 40 chips, if I'm not mistaken.

I updated it to 3BTC - no weird decimals please ;p

I may have missed it, but has JohnK agreed to act as our agent?

Being new to this community I don't know anybody, so I'm relying on other people for trust, particularly people chipping in a lot more than I am!

I just received his message:

Oh, one other thing, is Avalon doing any number of chips between 10k and 200k, or is it only in multiples of 10k? Eg, we get enough in the group for 15k chips, will they do that?

I think it's 10k max per order.

I believe they will do anything between 10k-200k (it would make sense).

But our situation is different because we have myself, the pool of contributor, escrow, and Avalon.
Yeah, that's why I pointed out that an escrow service isn't going to provide the same kind of protection in this case.  The only thing John would be able to provide, is ensuring that the chips get ordered; he can't really protect them after that.

If you personally had 780BTC, you could give that to John as collateral, but I don't know anyone who would be crazy enough to lock away 780BTC for a few months. Tongue

Check out the spreadsheet to make sure I didn't miss your name from the list please.
Please put me down for 46.926 BTC for 600 chips, + however much is needed for fees (currently 2%).

EDIT: Oh, and thank you for taking the time to put all of this together.

Thanks! I added another column to show how many chips people are getting (Realistically rounding down because you can't have 3/4 a chip lol). I added you for 47 BTC so you will be getting 602 chips! Just makes math and other things easier a bit.

I went ahead and put in the really long number for the spread sheet too 12.820512820512820512820512820513 CHIPS PER BTC!

So please everyone contribute in BTC and not in how many chips you want Smiley

I got 12.820512820512820512820512820513 from 10,000 divided by 780 BTC - for shipping and fees I will make it separate later once the 780 is reached.

For example I will be putting in 17BTC so I will make another column in the spreadsheet to tell you how much you will be sending to JohnK.

( 17 + (2.1 / # of people contributing for shipping) ) * 1.02
This way it is a lot more accurate so if you want in just in the number of BTC - no weird decimals though please - .25 / .5 etc. is fine.

Interested in 100~126 chips. What's next step ?

I put you down for 8 BTC - you will be getting 102 chips. Look in the spreadsheet for calculations.

Hmm.. wait a sec. I'm willing to buy 360 chips.

782.1/10,000=0.07821 btc each

360*0.07821=28.1556

28.1556*1,02(fees)=28.718712 BTC

So I have to correct my order to 28.718712 BTC (shipping excl.)

Am I right?

I put you down for 30BTC which yields 384 chips!

Good with that... just make sure to keep us all updated on shipping via email.

Thanks for checking out JohnK... have lots of trust in this escrow choice!

We are putting faith in the OP... but I like at least being sure the BTC is paying for the chips. Harder to sell off 10K worth of chips than convert 700+ BTC to cash... partial protection at least.

So looking forward to this!

Maybe part of your 1% OP is kept by John until proof of shipment? Not all but some we know you should get something to cover all the time and effort. Thanks again!

Yes good idea. JohnK can keep my 1% until people start getting their tracking info.

I'm in with 5BTC.

looking forward to this. thanks for helping.

added

AGAIN PLEASE NOTE:

I will use this formula to calculate the total BTC that you will be sending to JohnK:

( [# of BTC Contributing to Pool] + (2.1 / [# of people contributing for shipping]) ) * [JohnK + OP Fees]

Definitely interested. I may not be able to get into this group buy, but I imagine others will take place?

I'd like to learn more about the architecture of those chips and start some preliminary PCB/Schematic designs before I buy in. If they released any documentation for those Avalon chips somewhere (and I didn't see it), could someone point me toward it?
