Many thanks for the quick reply on this - couple of other quick questions stemming from this.

So I really have to change their IP's?  I cant just set them up individually and connect 2 or more that have the default 192.168.1.99 - have them mine but not be able to access them from a computer?  Please confirm that I MUST change the IP's if I connect 2 or more. I think your "yes"  above says I absolutely need to change IP's but just confirming if its best but optional - or absolutely necessary

So please bear with me - I am not really computer literate - just learning - hence what are probably basic questions here.  I have read how to change to DHCP - yes I reckon I can do this.  Then though I understand the IP's will float - how do I find them to connect to the S3's to adjust miner settings etc?

How do I "pin" them to the individual S3's?

Thanks for your patience

Cheers usukan

Now if I connect another or more S3's to the network adaptor via LAN cables - do I need to change their IP's - for eg 192.168.1.99 change to something else say 192.168.1.199 for each one apart from the original S3 at 192.168.1.99?

Nice thanks - much risk in updating firmware?  Seen a few bricks from this one.

Yes. Set to any IP within your router's range which isn't being used by another device. .98 and .99 are probably unused.

But - If I give them each a separate IP address 192.168.1.xxx - then I should be able to access from my computer separately while they are all connected and mining?  Is there much risk in changing the IP's if I stick to 192.168.1.xxx since 192.168.1.99 works now?
Yes, no (if you've got up to date firmware).

Usually I would just try and see but I see so many horror stories on this and other threads - dont want to take any risks if I don't have to.
Absolute safest method is to set them both as DHCP so they'll accept whatever IP the router gives them. It will mean the IP to connect to them may float around a bit, but you can pin the IPs as preferred ones to the S3s so they won't move via your router.

 A question

I have one S3 happily hashing away connected to a wifi network adapter via a LAN cable. S3 IP is 192.168.1.99. Can access fine from computer.

Now if I connect another or more S3's to the network adaptor via LAN cables - do I need to change their IP's - for eg 192.168.1.99 change to something else say 192.168.1.199 for each one apart from the original S3 at 192.168.1.99?

My understanding is that I can connect one at a time to configure pools/mining details while they are 192.168.1.99 - but after that I can connect them all to the LAN and they will mine OK despite they all have the same IP Address of 192.168.1.99.

But I also understand that I cannot access them from my computer (when they are all connected) to set pools/mining details if they all have the same IP address?  This is fine for me.

But - If I give them each a separate IP address 192.168.1.xxx - then I should be able to access from my computer separately while they are all connected and mining?  Is there much risk in changing the IP's if I stick to 192.168.1.xxx since 192.168.1.99 works now?

Usually I would just try and see but I see so many horror stories on this and other threads - dont want to take any risks if I don't have to.

Thanks for your advice anyone.

Hi all,

I am wondering if it's possible to use antminer S3 plugged with ethernet to my laptop which is on wifi ?
Any idea how to configure it this way ? because for some physical reason I can't plug it directly to my router.

Thx !!

Yes look up window's connection sharing.  But you should be able to use it with your router.

If you are having trouble with network maybe post screenshot of network page on S3 and tell us your network info.  Or use DHCP and it will set it for you, and find it connected to your router.

I would dive more into the networking issue then trying to use a laptop 24x7 just for networking.   If you mean you only have wifi you can get networking adapters that take wifi and provide a lan cable connection.

Ok I tried something else.
I made a antenna from old wireless device I had.

I connected the S3 to my PC via ethernet, I had to change my my laptop PC adresse to 192.168.0.X to 192.168.1.X to access the S3 because my router is 192.168.0.1

After doing that I changed the LAN Ip adress of the S3 to 192.168.0.101 to make it accessible via my laptop without changing my ip address all the time.
I setup the wifi connection which worked the S3 is connected to the network.

Then I tried to setup the wwan interface, both with DHCP or static address and I just cannot access the S3 after deconnecting the ethernet cable from it.

I even see the device in my router DHCP list addresses but it remains unaccessable and doesnt hash...

And I changed back my laptop IP address to DHCP

Any tips here ?

I see 2 options either static or dchp.   If you show us the network screen on your S3 we can try to help say what settings need changed.   With this we can try the static route.

But without seeing it it with your router would be something like following:
Static
IP Address: 192.168.0.X  (enter an IP that is not being used on X)
Netmask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.0.1
DNS Server: 8.8.8.8

(The above assumes some guesses based on what you have said but it will be something like that)

Other option is turn S3 to DHCP and it should configure it on its own.   Just see devices after.  You might need to set a DNS  I personally use google normally very easy to remember 8.8.8.8 .

Either one should work.

But I write, it is not gitargmnis.

Esegi, this wire is what they do in reality?
And this is where I have to do the 20-pin of the wire you have a separate cable and connect the cable if such cases there will still be a need to do it immediately psu on my race?

The wire (paperclip) shorts the "start" circuit of the psu, turning it on. The wire must remain their otherwise the psu will turn off. A computer motherboard would usually do this, giving control to a computer power button.

I else have question but now i'm phone and tomorrow computer write question and will add image.

This wire is necessary ?

Yes. The antminer will not turn on without it.

Any wire may is ?

If this 20pin dont have my psu , what do i?
This 20 pin that will dont connect psu

If your PSU 20pin does not look like that. Post a pic and Dogie or someone else will try to help.
The 20 pin itself is NOT used by an s3 miner for anything other than the clip
