If in the state you have to defend yourself, then this is a bad state. If you need it to demonstrate strength and express your will to the government, this is again a bad state. If for the sake of demonstrating "coolness", then you do not understand life.
Gun control is not possible in the United States, because they have very high rates of violent crime, especially home invasion. If you don't own a gun, then it is like asking for your death. On the other hand, countries such as Australia and New Zealand have very strict gun ownership laws. They can afford that, because crimes such as home invasion are very rare in these countries. Ultimately, it depends whether the government is able to protect you or not. If they are unable to do that, then you don't have any choice other than owning a gun to protect yourself.
I vehemently disagree with the logic behind your conclusion, and find it personally offensive to the highest level, to the point where I was motivated so much by this comment that i came in to post right here and now after years.
People have an inalienable, undeniable, right to bear arms. This has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not their mammy can protect them, else they also have the same right to die for that belief.
That's it, literally it. Because you exist, you have every right to bear arms and deal with the consequences.
