IMO, Harry Potter is better cos it is good fairy tail for people of different age categories
I like Lord of the Rings, for me this is one of the best movie i've ever seen.
Harry Potter i had watched all the sequels and it is indeed fantastic.
I voted LOTR. One of the best series ever.

Comparing apples and oranges. The LotR story was created around the language, plot, landscapes. The plot isn't based around any character per se. In reality you could toss in another dozen heroes, change the plot, and the story will still be amazing.
Harry Potter on the other hand is a story based around a centralized character and his friends. It's written to tell the story of one person, and a few followers. That's it.
Personally, I prefer the more personalized story as it goes into greater personal detail. LotR has way, way much going on everywhere to follow the story deeply.

i went with lord of the rings because harry potter is to kiddy for me. i also hate how that main wizard guy, in the early movies at least, told the students not to do something. then harry potter and co. do it. the wizard guy then rewards them for breaking the rules, npnp.
