Of course people have lost bitcoins. In 2010 I threw out a server with a wallet.dat file containing 100 BTC that were CPU-mined while I was playing around with an early client. To those who weren't around back then the Bitcoin core client mined/generated coins by default in pristine 50 BTC blocks straight into your wallet.dat. I had installed a node on an old 8-core server just to play around before the server was decommissioned a few days later. I noticed it had mined the 2 blocks before shutting it downed for the last time and sending the drives off to be DoD3 wiped.

It was only the next year when I got serious with BTC and realized how much value I had thrown out.

it is difficult to calculate how many defeats I've experienced, especially I mostly lost on gambling. but not be more than 5btc, because I am not a great player and tend to play it safe.

I have lost about 0.6 Bitcoin from gambling. That is really the only way someone could lose Bitcoin unless they are stupid enough to copy and paste the wrong address. Then send Bitcoin to that wrong address.

How, and how much did you manage to lose?

I lost bitcoins in gambling and when it was my first time at trading altcoins. I almost lost 0.2btc from gambling and 0.05 from altcoin trading. I think all of us already lose some bitcoin in many different ways. Some are scammed by hyips or ponzis, and cloud-mining sites. It is not bad to lose some of it as it teaches us an important lesson to ourself and never repeat it again.

I lost 0.07 btc from my wallet as I deleted my multibit wallet by mistake and I was also not having private key or backup to recover it, but now I take proper care of it.
Is there any specific wallet that we should not use because of losing BTC. Which is the safest wallet to keep our bitcoin. If you are forgetting any address or credentials means just store those details to clouds so that there wont be any lose for account details if your phone get damaged.
There are of course many people that is losing some Bitcoins and that is because you are making some mistakes so that will be not that bad.
But as you can see it will be now bad if you are losing coins because it will be more worth also now around this time.

Definitely, I think the majority of bitcoiners have lost bitcoins in the past because there are so many casinos around. But this also proves how good bitcoin is, how convenient it is to access any merchant/company.

Probably lost around 0.2 BTC in total.

I lost my bitcoin in some cloudmining site, I invest around a total of 0.3 BTC, the cloudmining site shutsdown with my remaining investment, i can say i received a return of around 0.07, the payout decrease as time goes by until it shutdown.   Another scenario is a hardrive failure, well its not that big, just around 0.03 so i let it go rather than fixing my HDD that cost more than what i lost inside it  Cheesy

I "lost" 380 BTC by pre-ordering miners from Butterfly Labs.  Awesome experience.
Thats the worst. You can buy 1 car using that 380 btc , Did you try to recover it? How the scam happened? Pls share us your story, cause 380 bitcoin is such a very large amount of money

I lost also my BTC on scam sites like HYIP and I learned my lesson. Im very thankful, i discovered bitcointalk.

380 BTC that's a huge amount now at $700/BTC its $266,000!!! What happened?

Lucky are those people who buys btc at cheaper price. They are now smiling to the bank Smiley

Id highly reccomend mycelium wallet if you use an android phone. Your phones probably not the best place to store them but mycelium has a seed that you must write down so recovering your wallet is a doddle.
