I don't believe HF is selling a control unit seperately the 1U control unit is simply a "free" upgrade if you buy 10 Sierras (nicely fills an entire rack).

The Sierras have a single USB port connection on the back. Any system (capable of running cgminer) can be used as a host/controller. There isn't anything particularly special about the "1U controller" it is simply an entry level 1U server. You could buy your own "off the shelf". Even an Atom server w/ 2GB of RAM likely more than enough computer "oomph" to run cgminer for as many modules as you want to connect. If you have more Sierras than USB ports just use a USB hub.

Even if it isn't available for sale maybe HF can share the specs (processor, RAM, HDD, etc) for the controller to help customers find an equivalent.

Still I imagine the requirements are modest. This is likely overkill.

And regrading the Sierra itself, I'm wondering about the approximately noise level.

I think the intent is intimidation. By claiming success in contracting various parts of the industry you discourage competitors from entering the market and thus are more likely to establish a leadership role. It is interesting when you compare it to PR strategies of other companies though (e.g. ASICMINER) which tend to keep silent about their operational infrastructure, the latter one known for biting without a bark. We have yet to see the bite strength of companies like Hashfast.

HashFast never promised Sea Sonic PSUs. We could have used cheaper ones and improved our profit margin.

That's why it's fair to say HashFast "picked up the tab" for premium quality power.

The Golden Nonce is the Rolls-Royce of ASICs, so we are including the Cadillac of PSUs with it.

So I see the rendering of the Sierra has been up dated on the HF website. When can we expect a more accurate rendering of the BabyJet?

don't get me wrong, but shouldn't have such things (contracts with manufacturer and PSU supplier) happened months before? Based on my training and experience it seems we are at the beginning of chapter 6 of the ASIC-manufacturers field manual, "Delay, Smoke and Mirrors".

Higher cost and lower quality? Doubtful. While Seasonic makes excellent power supplies, there are many other companies that do the same.
Even if Seasonic itself was exclusive, you could just go buy these and call it a day.

Doubt it. Even if hashfast needed 2000+ PSUs... seasonics market is... huge. SS is larger market cap wise than all of BTC.
