Goodnight, ohh Leo!!! 🦅
I have a friend who always forgets to check the lottery ticket he bought; he usually bought his tickets after work, and out of fatigue he drowse to sleep without waiting for the lottery results. There were times that he won second to third prizes and only knew it after a week; he doesn't even remember if he checked the ticket the next day after he bought a new one.
He may be forgetting his kids in school all the time as well....bahahahaa!!  He wouldn't dare to tell you about that but, I'm giving you a free hint...
Cause WTF does he mean he sometimes forgets to check on them old lottery tickets to know if he's got a win or not, but recalls to wager on new games the next day?? I mean, how's that even supposed to be heard by us? Can you tell me? I guess the lucky ones are the cashiers in charge of his ticket - they just have to wait a few days and definitely he'll show up. "When he shows up, he barely talks to anyone about the previous games/tickets and he's always in a hurry " - says his favorite cashier all the time.

I'd not even dare to try such a careless act. I've got a goal, to earn from those games. So what's the essence of wagering on them if you can't confirm your ticket afterwards.

Bad mental health can also result to this which includes stress, lack of sleep etc. I’m not a fan of lottery game so I can’t relate, sport betting is different besides you just have to watch your game probably take quick move when necessary or let the game play. At this point lottery game can be considered less important for example, people hardly give out their attention  when busy Personally it’s wrong gambling or buying tickets when busy aside this no proper relaxation I guess all this results to stress.
Stress and the mental issue can be one of the reasons, but considering it as less important in gambling is not really the right world. If you ask me, it's even easier to check a lottery ticket than follow up on a sports match, as it's just something you can check up on using any means necessary to see if what you have is the winning ticket, not like how some prefer following up on a match till the end of the game. There is no such stress or fun in a lottery.

Well to me I think checking your lotto ticket is a waste of time and don't really matter but some people take it as habits to check their tickets to know when they eventually get a win or not but I don't try that cause on a norms I don't see myself playing lottery or Lotto games of any sort, tho I find alot of them in my domain, I see it as more addictive to the gambling community.

Generally among the few times I've bought a lottery ticket I can say that I always check.

Well, if you make it a habit to play the lottery though you can accumulate too many tickets. Some lotteries run on a by-weekly basis, some monthlly etc. In the meantime if you buy some tickets every day good luck checking them all.

I'd say lotteries are not worth playing especially given how unlikely it is to win and how much money they keep for themselves and never distribute it as winnings. Over 50% of the money they get from tickets they get to keep for themselves usually.

Compare that to any other gambling game, where the house edge usually tops at 5%, and it's plain old robbery in comparison. Lotteries tend to pray on older folk who are not aware of these facts. But then again other gambling games are more addictive so it's probably pointless to be too harsh. But still if you've reached a point of buying so many tickets you can't check them, you've got an issue.

There's a real story about this; it happened just this year. And it took her several months to find out.

Clueless lottery winner sits on six-figure prize — until spouse nags her to check ticket months later

Not really just that talking on being forgetful or being too busy but rather people dont really give out focus on those things on which they do know that they've been keeping on betting or repeating on the same step or action on day to day basis but still ends up on losing. On the time or moment that you've been getting used to it specially on losing bets then you will really be that assuming that on the next day you will be assuming on the same results until that you will really be just that simply buying tickets and just buying another one without having those kind of checks whether you do win up or lose. You cant be able to blame out someone because we do know that hitting chance on lottery is really that almost close to impossible and also we dont bother ourselves on hitting just that near jackpot combinations because we do really want that main prize of course.lol
If this one turned out on having that wasted 6 digit figure prize then it is really that indeed something that gives out that regret but actually basing up on my experience about unclaimed prizes will really be usually lasting up 90-120 days here in our country. I dont know on other countries but this is on their terms on which even if you have forgotten it on a month on which on the time that you will be trying out to claim those prizes then it will really be that still possible, as long you do have that ticket and didnt able to lose it out. Its true that it will be that at least recommended on checking out your ticket results often on which at least you are really that wary that you've been betting into something and you might been that missing out some life changing amounts.

Yes, I can easily forget to check the lottery ticket I bought.

I have a lot of important things to do, so I don’t rely on my memory. It can easily let me down. Fortunately, I have a habit of writing down all my important things in a diary (digital calendar) on my smartphone. This allows me not to miss important things (and finances and money are a very important thing). Therefore, I have never had the situations described in this topic. In my opinion, finances are too important a topic to be treated lightly. I don’t really like losing money.

I have never won the lottery, but I do not lose hope of winning the main prize one day.

The one that mostly happened to me sometimes is bet I may have different bet on different gambling site but without remembering to check all my bet on those site sometimes I might have the opportunity to cash out and I could cash out goods money but if I'm not active watching the match how they play it would always result to total lost maybe had in mean I'm active, I could have cashed out big amount of money and some of the games would win and I won't know, it's only when I will want to make use of the site I will login to be seen by winning or change in account balance.

Checking up on lotto winning tickets is sometimes tiring, most especially if you are a consistent Lotto ticket player and after series of months you haven't won any reasonable amount. Because to be frankly speaking, I must confess what the user O.P is referring to in this thread did, is actually the best approach to follow up on Lotto games (i.e just play and forget about it, since the amount used are usually not much), most especially if you are using a reliable Lotto betting platform whereby if you win, you automatically gets credited into your Lotto account. Because if I was to be this individual in question, coupled with the work and family stress, Lotto is the last thing I could ever want to get worry about.

Your friend has a good attitude towards his gambling, instead of constantly checking the results, he is more into taking care of his work. From what he does, I think it would be difficult for him to become a problem gambler.

For me, it was a past experience, I have never played lotto again because it was too boring, several times I forgot to check the results, and one time I won & I only realized it after 3 weeks, I thought the credit balance was a bonus from the platform, but no, it was my winnings.

Most people are tired of checking their lottery tickets because they have lost hope in winning it. Imagine having about 500 trials in lotteries and more. They just keep getting the ticket to see if one day they might get lucky. The crazy part is that it's when they win that they get not to check their ticket.

I won't blame them anyway. It's a psychological thing. Humans get frustrated when doing the same thing over and over again for years without getting any good results. It takes one who has to learn to be able to endure the good times.

I quite often buy a ticket with the intention not to check it for a day or two after the draw, because it's nice to sometimes dream of the idea that you have won and what you might spend the money on. Most of the time I buy online anyway, so will either receive a win notification or not, which makes it easy to check in about 2 seconds when I want to do so. Most of the time lotteries will have quite long time limits, making it possible to claim 6 months or longer, so as long as it is checked eventually you will not face any problems redeeming the ticket.

Your friend is the type of guy that is anxious for nothing. I think he's the kind of guy that his mood would remain the same irrespective of whether he had lost.

In my country we don't have the lotto craze like I see in some other countries. Most of us don't even care about it because we have a low level of trust for the government or whoever the organizers are . Sorry, distrust is our default until proven otherwise.

I think people that can literally Forget they have a couple of lottery tickets with them sitting around are actually good examples of people that gamble for the fun of it or rather people that take gambling just like they would a regular game.

I think he is confident that he can check later that’s why he is not checking real time. You can accumulate as much as you want then check it at one go since not everyday you will the lottery so you can check in bulk given that daily results is already available in the internet.
That too could possibly be a thing too. Some people don't like the idea of anticipating gambling or lottery jackpots since it can likely mess with their budget or worse make them too anxious that if they eventually end up losing the game or between they get pained slot. Infact I think it's a very nice thing to do as a gambler.

The only way one can do that is if they're casually gambling, and also when they gamble with money they can afford to lose. For people like that, they're not under any pressure to survive or solve their life problem with winnings from gambling. In my opinion, I describe them as "part time" gamblers. I know a few others may say they're gambling for fun. I don't like using that expression that people gamble for fun because I know they aren't. No one loves to throw away money. That's what gambling for fun should mean.

I haven't participated on buying lottery tickets before but when I newly came into gambling, I've made such mistake which I might probably not say I forget to check on my tickets after game played because I sometimes dares the house edge by picking unbelievable games due to higher risks involved in the games.
Then I was really gambling for fun 😊 not now I'm chasing the moolah. 😆.
Imagine staking $10 to win a wager of $1,000,000 😂.
Definitely impossible. So I just feel like dragging the attention of the bookmakers with that snd then I'll just go dump the slip off somewhere less to my concern.
Was then though. Right now my eyes are up to my tickets on 24/7 because I wouldn't want to miss my luck.

Since there's no limit to when the result and winning can be redeemed nor will the reward be reduced, I don't see anything wrong with that.

Failing to check the result shows how much the person doesn't care about the result and just partakes in it based on fun and luck, say, and not like those who buy the ticket with high hopes of winning something out of it.

When I was younger I bought a lottery ticket not because I thought I would win but so that I could have a chance. It wasn't a big lottery, I just bought the ticket for fun. Like many people do. That was the reason I forgot about it, almost immediately. I took the ticket, put it in a small pocket of my bag and... forgot about it.
Two weeks later a friend of mine who had also bought a ticket for the same lottery, told me that they couldn't find the winner of the fourth or fifth prize, I don't remember exactly. I don't think I've ever opened my eyes so much in my life! We searched the whole house from top to bottom to find it and finally, I remembered where I had put it. From that incident onwards, whenever I buy a ticket in any lottery, I not only keep the ticket but also write down everything! Cheesy

I've lost lottery tickets before but like most of the tickets I have bought over the years, they are usually a losing tickets.

Most winning lottery tickets I know of do not expire, or takes quite a fairly long time before they expire.
yeah, it's not that they don't expire it's just that their expiry dates are usually several months to a year or maybe a year and several months longer. for example, in my country, winning lottery tickets usually have a one-year validity and if you fail to claim it in that time period it will be forfeited.

In my country, if I'm not wrong, it is only 3 months, which is enough time in most cases, but I would make it longer, just in case. It may have changed but at least the last time I read about that topic the expiry date was after that time. (Edit: just checked it, it is 3 months indeed).

Can you imagine storing a winning ticket in a jacket you won't use again in several months because of the change of season, to realise after several months that you won, and not be able to do anything to recover it?

It won't happen to me, because I usually play lotteries with an App, so I receive notifications and I can check my tickets every time I want. The bad thing, I guess, is that if I ever win millions, my data will be sold to advertisers who will get really annoying wanting to sell me things Cheesy but still...

I wish I can bet on a daily basis but reality is, I don’t bet on the lotto often, but whenever I do, I make sure to watch the live draw to see if my numbers hit.
It’s probably for the better if you don’t gamble on the lottery every single day. I can only imagine how much money will you be paying if you do that every day and you don’t even know if you’ll win at all.

with so much work and other things going on, it’s easy to forget, but if winning could change your life, it’s definitely worth taking the time to check. Besides, it doesn’t take that long. As for me, I’m aiming for that $1 million jackpot. If I ever win, maybe I’ll take it easy for a while, lay low, and just relax.
If I were to gamble on a lottery ticket, I also want to win the maximum prize. Which is why I don’t want to gamble every day. Once in a while but going for the big win is the goal.
