I don't know about you guys...

but when the price of BTC drops $2 in one day, the first thing I want to do is sink $500 on another mining card (or $4,000 on 8 of them).

...or maybe not.

I was going to argue with you and realized it would be stupid. Also I'm sure you ignored my post earlier but just in case you missed it you were wrong in this thread earlier about roi and this isn't the first time I've corrected you.

Mine shows as "shipped" as well, but no tracking # yet.  Does anybody know where these are shipping from?

Haha... I will explain the trick. Newegg.com really has two sites with the same inventory.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814105001&Tpk=radeon%205970
http://www.neweggbusiness.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814105001&Tpk=radeon%205970

I bought 4 and called up a buddy who bought 4 for me.

BTW, they are now sold out. I guess a couple other people had the same idea i did.  Grin
Ah,that explains it.

I also checked for codes and got an extra 10 bucks off so shipping was also free.........looks like the order shipped within the last hour as well.

OOS Sad

Thank goodness. It was seriously taxing resisting the purchase of these.

Was thinking of swapping out the 6970s that I *just* got for these (my PSU and rest of the system could have handled it). But it was hard to justify $500/card (in essence $250/5870) when I could get 5870s for $200 and the 6970s I had just bought for $225 apiece.

Damn I was just considering swapping out some of my existing cards for one of these, as I've wanted one for a while, but so it goes. NewEgg rapes me with tax anyway  Angry

Nice! Thanks for the post. Donation is coming your way. Just picked up 8 of these bad boys!
Thats a big investment for no warranty 0.o I hope they all work well and don't die on you shortly after the 30 days.

Me thinks he exaggerates a bit.

"In stock. Limit 2 per customer."

Naw - 4 orders is easy.. ship one to each of:

- home
- office
- parents house
- in laws house
- friends' house(s)
- cousins' house(s)

I've used all of the above except cousins (none local).  The egg only catches on if you use the same cc on the orders.

Lol.

Newegg could cross check the information with shipping and credit card details to limit their stock hence why I only bought two.Definitely expecting this to ship out today considering how good their past performance was with my prior orders and make up the profits quicker with the surging Solidcoin, lol.

I guess I could put my money in the stock market or under the mattress but Bitcoin mining is more fun though Wink
Oh I know what you mean bitcoins is my hobby and Ive invest a fair amount into it. I just would be scared to take that big of a risk. As you buy more the chances of one going bad are quite good.

I'm not sure how closely newegg watches but he could use multiple accounts with out them knowing right?

wait, people are still buying GPUs for mining?

Yes, and with what seems like a new block chain being introduced every week, it's not hard to have a new card paid off in less than a week.  In some cases a few hours.  In fact I bought this 5970 out of profits I made off of 8 HOURS worth of mining Ixcoins Smiley  178 days my ass! Tongue

Payoff on this card is around 178 days -- expect to earn around $3/day.

Let's all hope Bitcoin is around and profitable for 6 more months...

Thanks for calculating that for me.

I have a spreadsheet that I use for my own cards, and when looking at new cards.

178 days is FAST. I was looking at a payoff on my Core i7 of something like 23 years.  Glad I kept mining (well, for a while anyway).

But that's just for the card. You still need a PC to power it.
And 178 days is only for those with 8.8c per kW/h electricity. Your mileage may vary.

As I've said before, 6 months is a long time. A very long time. Especially in Bitcoin years. Bitcoin has only been around for 2 years, even for Satoshi and his friends! Nevermind most of us, who have only been doing this for 3 months. Think about it -- Bitcoin was 170K difficulty just a few months ago. Now it's 1.8 million.  Where will it be in 6 months? It could be anywhere. We could enter the next phase of adoption, when tons of gamers decide to go for it and difficulty could double.

I'm also not convinced the 5970 would have a good resale value considering it costs $500.00. It would have a great resale value among *miners*, but if I'm selling it, it's because Bitcoin mining is no longer worth it, so...

We won't go into what kind of a decision buying a Core i7 just for mining would be...
(You could have at least 2 good 58XX cards for $300!)

I'm not saying this is a good card or a bad card but its more like 4 dollars a day at 15c a kwh. If things stay the same (which I know probably won't) that's 125 days.

For people with low electricty costs lets say 8c a kwh that's around 4.50 a day or 111 days to pay off.
