Gambling may be able to train us to remain disciplined in gambling so that we can prevent ourselves from problems in gambling. But it won't work if we don't have self-control from before we start gambling because when we don't have it, we can easily get deeper into gambling and in the end we will become addicted to gambling. This has happened to many people who previously did not gamble very often and because they lost self-control and were unable to become responsible gamblers, they became more likely to gamble more often. This is what we must be aware of and avoid because we have seen what happens to those who lose themselves. Maybe there is still a lot more that we need to prepare to become responsible gamblers and it will depend on how we can use gambling properly.

It all depends on your mindset, if you gamble to have fun and to enjoy and treat it as a stress reliever, yes gambling can be considered to be healthy and you will reap all its benefits, gambling becomes unhealthy when you have too much of it, spending more of your time allocating money that you can afford to lose, chasing your losses and thinking that you can recover your losses in one sitting.

There is such a thing as pleasure hormone and it is released when you do something that makes you feel good and is the healthy way to play, when you are gambling in the wrong way you produce a lot of cortisol and testosterone and these hormones are associated to increased risk of violent behavior and becoming impulsive.
So play with the right mindset and you will reap all the benefits of a healthy mind.

Improves mood and stress reliever? Well, that depends on the situation though. It's not gonna be the case if you're losing. However, it could improve mood and relieve stress but I may not call it health benefits, simply because it's temporary just for that moment when you're gambling. After that, it's gonna be back to reality. Health benefits are the things that creates long term effects. But this one, I'll call it a remedy to a stressful long day of work/day job.

#3. It helps us to take risk.

This is the part that I loved and I have never thought of the positive side. Since gamblers are always taking risk to make profit. It means that it whatever business or goal that we are planning of, taking the risk to venture into it is worth it just like you don't know if you will win the next game but you have the hope that you will win it.

If your venturing into a business take a bold step and believe that it is worth to take the risk to succeed in it. Same with you goal don't get discourage even when you have fallen the first time, just as gamblers don't give up, they come back and gamble tomorrow after today's loss. Gamble responsible in other to enjoy the benefit in gambling.

Im not so sure about relieveing stress. That migth be true for a few, but im pretty sure its not the case for the majority of players.
It can help with self control and managing risk, sure, that is certainly a possibility.

Totally agree on gambling is not good for stress relieving because you will be dealing a lot of risk every and I’m not sure if anyone can relieve stress while under pressure due to risk. I once try this when I’m bored and stress while the result is pretty disappointing.

Gambling makes people not contented even if they are already in profit. They will keep playing without stopping unless they lose all their money. Gambling is good to kill some time but it never works well on stress because it give more stress when lose. I’d rather go out strolling instead of gambling when I stress so that my money will be well spent instead of wasting hours just to end up with disappointment and guilt.  Cheesy

The point is don't overdo it, just like when you eat food if you eat enough and move a lot you will be a healthy person, but if you eat too much and don't move much you will get sick, the same goes for gambling activities if you play. Excessive gambling certainly has negative effects, namely it can lead to addiction or bankruptcy, as well as being abandoned by family and people around us.

Fortunately, I always remember what my parents taught me, that whatever you eat and do, don't overdo it, stick to your portion. For example, when gambling, always limit your budget and time for gambling so that it can be an alarm to stop gambling and not gamble excessively. Moreover, not regularly, I can honestly admit that while gambling I don't get too stressed and in fact this activity can relieve stress from my work every weekday, that's why on weekends I always gamble as an additional activity that entertains me and makes me happy.  Wink
I agree with what google says but somehow, The health benefits that may acquire in gambling in every individual is for temporary only, please be mindful that there are more negative side effect in peoples health benefit than the positive one so it is necessary to explain it to a gambler to prevent them from getting negative side effects. Just like drugs, It has a medical health benefit in a person but if they use it compulsively, they will become obsessed and that's not healthy to a persons lifestyle and mental health.

Gambling is not bad after all but addiction is, gambling has been receiving a lot of negative reactions and feedback but gambling also has a lot of health benefits associated with it but you can only get these benefits if you are a responsible gambler and you have total control of what you wage and limit your bankroll

Everything has positive and negative impacts, but there is a larger portion between the two. Maybe someone who is tired can relieve their stress by gambling, but many people experience stress and financial problems because of gambling. Even though there are positive impacts in gambling, there are many more negative impacts in it. As long as we are irresponsible in gambling then we will experience negative impacts, but if we can gamble responsibly then maybe we will find positive impacts in it.

This post looks like an excuse from the OP about why he gambles or love gamblers. There are so many other activities that can assure one of same health benefits clearly stated, but why gambling is unhealthy is when it involves a better part of ones funds, when it absorbs ones time so much so that they have no other objective other than to gamble.

The heath benefits are well stated but I can say in conclusion that there's nothing actually healthy about making a career out of gambling.

I will be the party pooper but those benefits, you can easily get them from doing other things and the gambling addiction will easily offset those benefits even. Let me break down the supposed benefits so you can think for yourself whether is it really that good.

1. If you want to improve your, I don't think that gambling is the best option here, exercise and eating the foods that you like have a better chances of helping you improve your mood. If you can, try reconnecting with your friends and go out sometimes, social interactions don't have to be expensive and stressful.
2. Gambling as a stress reliever is like a cigarette, it's a great helper but once you depart from it, you're going to feel extreme withdrawal which will worsen the stress that you thought was previously relieved. You're better off doing what I said in number 1.
3. Yes it's good that we learn and do some risk taking in life but gambling isn't the best one in that, extreme sports will probably give you more adrenaline than just sitting there waiting for the right cards to show.
4. With number 4, it's the same with number 3 if you want the challenges maybe try solving Rubik's cube or play with your friends Escape Rooms, that's a two for one benefit: social interaction and mind exercises.
5. This is a bullshit claim and it's the same as number 2, it's a temporary thing. If you're experiencing extreme anxiety or a constant but mild one, you're better off asking for mental health professional to help you permanently deal with anxiety.
6. If you really wanted something good for your brain, gambling isn't the best one because there's only two games that you can be sure will stretch your mind muscles so it's not worth it, try solving a jigsaw puzzle, that's much cheaper and already proven to help you or play chess and put some bets on it, two for one.
7. Meditation is much better than gambling and probably much cheaper since you can do it where it's quiet.

Gambling definitely has positive and negative impacts, depending on which side someone looks at it they can say that gambling is good or bad. But I personally say that gambling is actually positive, only if someone plays responsibly and understands the risks of their game. Because I myself also gamble and have spent hours on gambling and until now I don't feel that it is destroying me. I can still control my anger, socialize, and am not as aggressive as people worry about gamblers in general. I can even say that gambling makes me in a better mood because sometimes I win and it's really fun.

Gambling has both positive and negative effects, but although the positive effects are discussed, the negative effects are not discussed. Gambling relieves depression but when a person loses several bets in a row, a kind of hatred is created in his mind and then from that hatred he commits various types of criminal activities. Moreover, gambling is also socially termed as a highly criminalized social addiction. After the harmful effects of gambling on the children of a gambling family, the children of the family are psychologically broken and fear for their careers in the future.
I get your point, and that's why the OP also made mention of this being beneficial if you are a responsible gambler. If you are a responsible gambler and you wager within your bankroll, there is no way you are going to lose control and be hot-tempered when you lose a bet, but if you always bet above your bankroll and you lose such a bet, there is every possibility that your mode for the rest of that day has been ruined, and nothing will appear funny for you again as you have taken a hard and worst gambling decision.

But if I'm the kind of person who just wants to wager and have fun, and if I'm lucky enough to make some little win and life continues, I can use gambling as a means of freeing my mind and focusing it on other things rather than being bored and start thinking about things that do not really matter and can't add value to my life.

Im not so sure about relieveing stress. That migth be true for a few, but im pretty sure its not the case for the majority of players.
It can help with self control and managing risk, sure, that is certainly a possibility.
If someone is gambling in a responsible way it supposed to be gambling, it can help the person. Gambling is fun. Anything fun has health benefits. So the health benefits gambling can have on people with responsible gambling habit is far more than what is in the OP. But some people are just using gambling to look for money. Such people do not have fun and if they are losing, gambling does more harm to them.

BTW i agree with you that this can certainly be the case for people that are responsible with their money and do not have adictive personalities. Now we just have to look at the whole population of people who gamble and figure out how many of them are responsible with their money Smiley

I agree for two of the three statements here, first of all it is 100% proven and I speak from personal experience that is a stress reliever when you get stressed at work and you start a slot playing session you completely forget about the troubles at work. The third statement is also true,I will again give a recent example of my life,I was being paid less at work than my most co workers and I am the "director of IT" here so I should have one of the highest pays yet no,finance and lawyers get more. This led me to taking more risk and I recently signed with a new company with a much better decent pay.

thats... cute.

gambling has alway been associated as bad habit that leads to addiction and more than usual this addiction is acompanied with drugs and alcohol. the number of gamblers who find gambling beneficial to them i think they are probably just the few people and most of them are richer than warren buffet.

of all stress releiver, they find gambling to be one. you really have to ask who sponsored this study. my guess MGM grand?

LOL, but yeah, we don't know if we can really associated gambling with health benefits, I mean you play with money and then it make it as a stress reliever? On the other hand you might get increased in the long run if you continue to suffered from long gambling losses, so I' not sure if we can still call that benefits. Besides if the money that you used for gambling will just be used for your medical expenses.

So not sure if this study proves something though, or maybe gamblers will just find this reports to their benefits and maybe reason out that they are gambling to have a good mood or relieved themselves from stress which for me is very wrong as this just a excuses.

I think I will disagree with the article even if it is a legit source because, based on what I say and experienced, gambling only gives a negative effect. OK, let's say what the article states is legit, that gambling can lift your mood and stress. Why the hell. Why take risks, but it is only temporary or short positive benefits. You can't call those benefits either more like a positive effect. Why? As I said, it only lasts temporarily and for a short time. First lift up mood, OK, let's say that's the case, but I'm sure if the gambler loses his mood he will be gone. Who who will still have a good mood if he loses in gambling? Even if you do it for fun, you will still feel disappointed. Stress reliever? No, it will only add up to your stress. Maybe some gambler treats it that way, but do little they know, they only make their stress worse. Maybe the last benefit is true. I agree with that, that people who gamble will learn to take risks, as life has many risks to face.

I also think the same that all the health benefits which are associated with the gambling are linked to our winnings. As long as we are winning in gambling, we are making money everything will be good. There will be no stress, we will feel happy and comfortable and this will give a boost to our health.

I think that all these gambling health benefits will turn into health losses in case we start to lose in gambling. It's natural that the loss of money will have a negative effect on one's emotions and ones health.

It depends on the main purpose we set before we start a gambling session. If our main purpose is to make money, for sure a lose will not give any positive effect but if our main purpose is to have some fun on our spare time, a lose will not give negative effect. Those who can feel the positive effect of gambling are those who do gamble occasionally because they do it due to boredom with their job or something else so they need something new to do and they will not do it continuously.

I didn't find any gambler who after the lose in gambling seems to be happy. You see the gamblers when they lost money they will try to recover the losses and this extra burden will put more stress on their mind and health, it will be more dangerous for health.

It is obviously gamblers who do gambling for money and they do it regularly like every day or every week. Pretty sure this kind of gamblers will only feel the positive effect of gambling when they win some money. They do not even feel the fun while playing, or in other words, we can call them as addicted.

I think not many people know more about how important 3rd option at original post. Gambling is very great exercise of how to measure your risk and costs. When you casually gamble you will get used to risk taking and you will start to try taking more risks in your life. I think many people focus too much on negative aspects of gambling. Especially people are thinking that gambling eats your life BUT its wrong. You can use gambling as you decide if you are cautious person.
