Let us assume that high odds start from 1.5 and above while low odds starts from 1.2 and below.
I specifically like football gambling. When I started to gamble, I go for high odds, but I was not that experienced and I lost a lot.

Well that you lose a lot of times when you are going for high odds is just the nature of the game because in the end a high odd means that the outcome that you picked is pretty unlikely to become reality, at least for the bookies. I also are not betting that regularly anymore but when i do then i am going for very basic bets for football matches, like winner, draw, loser and i also go for pretty safe bets which have low odds then obviously. When i have a few games where i am pretty sure that my predictions come true then i also combine 2 or 3 single bet to one bigger combo bet which obviously has a pretty good odds then.

Imo it depends on the bankroll and the value of my bet when choosing odds. I choose low odds if I'm betting huge amount while high odds when betting low value or what I can afford to lose only. I knew that low odds doesn't guarantee but most of the time I win when choosing that using high amount of bet. I'm just a balance gambler so I usually manage my risk base on my bank roll.

I don't know if there's a person that using same odds without considering value because that's what this topic is asking.

Usually, i'd take the high odds whenever I see a team consistent enough to handle weaker teams. Sometimes if there's a favored team that has odds lower than what i've expected, i'd plan to place a bet on them mid-way through the match hoping to get higher odds as their opposition tries to make the match close as possible. Low odds are the ones that I tend to avoid, even though it's tempting at times to scrape those small profits through live betting or pre-live I still can't forget the tough losses that i've had from taking these low odds.

Gamble responsibly
Betting on games with 1.1 or 1.2 only gives a small return and we still have the risk that we lose all our money.
Low odds have many other disadvantages, people that go for low odds having lesser amount of money to win, this will create a sense of using more money to bet, a gambler can because of low odds add more money to bet which may be more than the person betting budget,  the low odd will give him a sense of having more chance to win, but in the end, the match may end as loss.

I play less often unlike before, I reduced the money I am using to bet, emotions gone and I win than before. How about you people, are you high odd punter or low odd. Can you also tell us your experience? At you losing or you make profit from the odds you are taking?
You are like the opposite of me because when I first start to gamble I start with low odds, 2x to be specific but I noticed later on that it is riskier since I lose a lot but now that I learn I just play with higher odds because I just feel that they are less riskier on me. I can win big by risking only smaller amounts of money.

If you bet small amounts on low odds then it might be true that you won't stop early but you can go for more in order to increase your winnings but once your play with a high odd and you hit your target already, you will feel contented because you already won a decent sum of money. I only switch to low odds once I am the mood to wager, to level up my account.

That is definitely an interesting question, having high odds does seem a bit dangerous at times and there are people who would specifically want to play for low odds overtime so they are able to get the full advantage of a certain situation without risking it all, but having high odds might be advantageous in situations where you are 100% sure that it's going to happen so some players might close their eyes and think of it as a safe bet as well. I do think that many points made here about the parlay is not even relevant because only some sports book offers it and you won't be finding it in your normal sites that often.

In some sports like boxing, you can really find higher odds especially for the underdog boxer. And some of them can really pull off an upset. So if you have the feeling that an upset will happen, you can very well place a bet for the underdog. This is the sports where I usually bet on higher odds. But when it comes to basketball, I prefer to bet on low odds as I know, the chance of winning of that team is high. So it is better for me to win small rather than totally lose my bet. Which means, that this decision sometimes depends on the sports you are betting on, your confidence about the outcome and how far you want to take the risk.

In order to have a chance to make a profit in a game with a bookmaker, it is better to try to play odds of 2.0 and higher, otherwise it will be extremely difficult to achieve success.

hmph..
In sports, choosing low or high odds is hard choice, but we can't just follow the name of the team. The truth is, we need to see the team performance, players and others. As mentioned by @YOSHIE, the team's analysis can determine the possibility of winning or not. Low odds will generally be chosen by most people, because they see the big name of the club itself, and fill it with confidence if this team will be the winner, but cos bad performance, they lose. For example between MU vs Everton, surely the odds for MU will be lower, because the probability of winning is high, so people will agree that MU will win. In fact, MU's condition is inconsistent, so, the results of the match they actually lose or draw. So, makes an analisys before put your bet, to makes your betting get better chance too.

One of my mistakes was that I chose low odds, could you believe I have lost a bet of 1.05 odds before and many times? I remember one to be in 2016 or so, it was in Brazilian top league, Série A between one coin and Sao Paulo over 0.5 goals, I accumulated 11 matches totalling over 10 odds with 1.3 and above odds, but only two among was lower than 1.1 and one of it made me lost the bet. Another one was 1.06 odds when Spain under 21 played with a small country in UEFA that won (or maybe draw, I have forgotten) Spain. I do care now about odds, I do not often accumulate and choosing only one match is better for. I use what I can afford to lose, this gives me the courage. Example is when a club is playing another club and have like 1.2 odds, if I think the club can win, I sometimes just go for first half win which makes the odd to increase, it has helped me and also failed me and I prefer going for over 1.5 odds matches. I make my analysis before placing bet as well, but I do not bet often.
Exactly low odds does not guarantee to win most gamblers make the mistake of taking low odds and sportsbooks know this so they intentionally lower the odds of the perceived strong club so that they can attract gamblers. Football betting is not as easy to predict as most people perceived it to be but the fact is if luck is on your side even with high odds the bet will win is all about the risk. I developed a new betting habits recently that have lowered my chances of losing, i just pick one sure club even if the odds is low i put the high amount in the bet many times it works but on a few occasions I lose too.

I also like to bet on football games, together with esports it's my most favourite sport. Back in 2016/2017 I bet heavily on CSGO and Dota games, but after a 2 year break I came back to bet much less now. My most bets now are on big tournaments in football, like champions league or the upcoming world championship. In general I prefer bets with high chances of winning, the only problem is they are not profitable. Betting on games with 1.1 or 1.2 only gives a small return and we still have the risk that we lose all our money. To build up a bankroll slowly with very save bets is a good idea if we have the time to do the research for every match. When my favourite team plays and I feel good about them winning then I go for lower odd bets, here the chances of winning are not so high but atleast the payout is good.

On average I take the lowest odds of 1.5 even though some are below that, but with quite a bit of risk compared to high odds but the win ratio is below 50% it's actually scary for me, but of course I saw a match so I will define the odds and I prefer 1.5 as a fairly balanced odds.

Even though some say that taking low odds is not worth the risk, but for me it is good enough to win. I bet on football compared to high. I always miss, in essence I analyze before the match, especially in the football line up that is displayed.

It's better to play those in singles than to waste your time on low odds events and parlay them.
...

This is absolutely an important point! Always play SINGLES Odds and don't bet on parlay (moreover if these are high odds!)
Most of newbie in this field are trying to "hit the jackpot" playing a long list of events. But this is tremendously wrong because they have low odds to win and in some cases these events are "undervalued" because other games (likes aggregator, in Italy there is Totocalcio https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Football_pools) will pay much much more Wink

Higher odds are usually not advisable when it comes to football gambling because the betting sit (gambling site) normally get their decision of increasing and decreasing of odds from past information and results of both teams, so they just observe how both teams are playing and give high odds to the losing team and low odds to the wining team.

The fluctuation in the odds of soccer is normal and it is more obvious few minutes before the game starts and stable days before the game. Odds fluctuating doesn't really determine the team that is going to win if the both teams are equals. Like you said it doesn't mean we have to look at odds while betting but to do our research but we know that in soccer, teams that are on relegation line are standing smaller chances of winning the bigger teams although this also depends on the players lined up for the match and the preceding match follow up if the big players are reserved.

I have lost several times in a row betting on high odds and after the experience I try to minimize my risks, so I prefer low odds as low odds are placed on the favorites of the match. Of course even in this case no one guarantees a hundred percent victory, but the probability of it is higher than betting on the outsider with higher odds.

For me I don't go for high odds I go for the team I feel would win.
Losing a game you staked because of the high odd is usually very annoying.

I prefer the odds in the 1.5-3 range for single events and up to 15-20 for multibets. Betting with odds less than 1.2 makes no sense - even if you win 20% of the profit, given that you risked 100%, there is no feeling of victory or satisfaction. As for addiction, this danger lies in wait better at any odds. If I feel like I'm thinking too much about betting or getting too involved in it, I pause.

I like high odds games that can win. Those exists, and are of high value to those experienced in the sport that they're betting on. It's better to play those in singles than to waste your time on low odds events and parlay them. There are times that low odds games are not even sure win, and I've been screwed by those events many times that I no longer believe that they are worth something, or are valuable to be even played at all.

I prefer odds where I am confident or at least I think these are undervalued.
I try each time to not get influenced by that number but just to understand WHY there is a certain odd.

What is the mathematical formula for determining the value of a bet / odds? I have also tried to understand how it works in detail....because I think there is a strong psychological component to a given odds for the gambler.
The higher the value, the more we are led to think that it is an unlikely event and, on the contrary, the lower ---> the more we think it is a plausible event.

I consider 1.8 odds still low, based on my experience even at 1.8 odds I still have a lot of losses even in football but in Esports betting especially CS:GO I prefer the higher odds usually some underdog players win against known teams and I've win more than 3x on that high odds before but that was risky I would still rather choose multiple lower odds match (1.20-1.50) parlay than placing 1 bet with higher odds.

In sports betting, especially soccer betting, in general, gambling sites place the lowest odds, for the club with the highest chance of winning, for example 70% and the club with a 30% chance of losing, for example.
but the name of the game on the field will prove or vice versa high odds can win or can draw and vice versa.

But if you want to bet looking from the side of the highest odds without looking at the team, field conditions and players in the club, most likely you will lose repeatedly in your bets, the point is: don't be tempted by the highest odds, team analysis, highly recommended.

Example:
Germany vs. England on June 7th, the odds and chances of winning are greater for Germany, in fact on their field (draw) 1-1, for that some analysis of the team is needed, in order to create a chance to win bigger bets.

Honestly, if I place sports bets regardless of the odds, I'm more focused on players and clubs.
