Yes it is risky just like any other investment. There is a chance that you can gain and there is also an equal chance of losing your investment. But it depends on how risk taker you are as a person, just don't put all your money so it won't be that big damage for you.

I dont like the idea of holding bitcoin, it goes against its purpose of becoming a substitute of money, or becoming a way of payment. Its also very volatile. But its heading there, says the commentator, as a substitute for gold, they say.

Well, risk will vary depending on the individual.   Many people were crying when the btc market cap went down by something like 200 billion USD in a during that last week or so in December 2017.

In my opinion, it's too late to buy bitcoin. He has already played the maximum. There are many other coins, quite promising to invest in them.

The risk of holding bitcoin is the possibility of your wallet to be hacked. However, holding bitcoin is also a choice and the advantage of holding bitcoin is the chance of withdrawal of bigger amount of money than today.

I wouldn't hold all money only in Bitcoin, it is better to have nice spread in altcoins too.
When one cryptocurrency drops in value you won't lose much money then, as if you could if all your money is in only one cryprocurrency.

As indicated by predictions bitcoin should have achieved 15k$ by end of 2017 and fall in first week of jan 2018
that is your prediction not "predictionS".
actually the speculations have been all over the place and none of them were even close to what you said.

some said it will fall below 10k some said it will go above 20k. and some said it will remain between 12k and 15k until it breaks out and starts rising. you can see which one was correct now.

Quote
In any case, shockingly its effectively reached 17k$ in 2017.
it has not exactly reached that much and it is not shocking even if it did.

invest what you can afford to lose. there is always a risk. even when you hold fiat your country can turn to shit and the fiat value drop hard.

Every move in crypto world are risky specially if you entering in trading/investing industry holding is the best move you can do for now if you buy bitcoin in the dip so you are lucky but if you buy bitcoin when its rise up I suggest hold and hold until the price reach your goal. If you believe that bitcoin will rise up again then hold it for long term and see the result in the future make sure you storr your bitcoin in the safe place.

The risk is always there, if you want to buy now then the risk is, the price may go down after you buy. But if you decide to wait before you buy, the risk is that the price may go up. You have to be brave to make a decision and do not regret what you have decided whatever the outcome because it is useless. You have to be wise.

yes, holding is a risk, I think when holding, you can risk losing altcoin, and if you can not analyze the price then you will lose.

Any type of investment have its corresponding  risk songs with bitcoin. There's  no assurance  that you will gain in your etc investment in the future. But you always  have the choice to convert your btc to fiat. It's just about  your self judgement to hold or to withdraw it.

Of course when you are looking are for a long-term investment it is really indeed very risky because from the fact that you may never know when the price will fall or rise again so there is no knowing whether the ones you buy are going to have a good return indeed. So you really have to put a trust on it otherwise you will fail.

Holding of course has a risk if we put it in the wrong place, but I think if you do it on bitcoin then it will give you an advantage in the future.

holding your coin is not dangerous because it is a long term trading strategy and will benefit very much when you sell it in the future because the price will surely rise very high.

if you decide to hold bitcoin, then you have to predict the price of bitcoin in the future.
if you predict the price will decrease, you should sell it at this time.

just a reminder, investing in bitcoin is very high risk.
