I don't think the betting platform is to be blamed. If the platform paid the winner through its workers but the workers stole the money away, it's probably not the platform that is to be prosecuted but those who stole the money. The platform, provided it's licensed, operated in good faith and was honest in dealing with its players.
I'm responding as if the case is this simple. There might be certain details of the case in reality that I don't know. In the end, the court might still require the platform to pay the gambler the winning amount while the court hears the case. But it would get it back once the money is seized from the criminals.

Not sure with these but in betting shops probably they're like the affiliates and the bettors/gamblers can cashout/deposit through them and they earn commissions from those. So, agents are like the middlemen of the betting shop and the gamblers. It's an opportunity probably given by the casino alone to also get some free marketing. To those bettors, you need to have a trusted agent if this is the way you gamble. Otherwise, just gamble online and you need not to go through with these agents and you can go directly and gamble against the casino. How do you bring pain to another human and you still sleep well at night?
Con artists will just ignore to answer that question. They're even bringing food to their family's table with those money that they've stolen so, they can easily sleep at night. Some countries are very restrictive and protectionist with how cash moves out of their economy, so people often find agents that have some sort of loophole to transfer cash in and out to do the job for them.
It's for the same reasons that in many countries money mules are a more efficient way to transfer cash than create a bank account, which is only reserved for the elite. It's a weird world we're living in actually.

When I read similar stories as this, I being to ponder on why I share the same air with such despicable humans with zero form of humanity in them. How do you bring pain to another human and you still sleep well at night? The perpetrations of these crime are the type of people who if they hadn't tried to rip off the winner through this means, they would have send, armed robbers to his home address to steal the cash from him. Of course that is the kind of risk that individuals who win such huge amount from gambling face. On the other hand, I am glad that this is not a story with a sad ending. Justice is being served and it makes me happy.

When dealing with humans like you and the deal involves money anything is possible, I don't even want to hear agents at all, most of them are scammers in disguise as a sport bet agent, be careful around them, some of them are even kidnappers informant, there is one true story how a agent in a sport bet location use to give kidnappers their next victim, and the police are able to get him because all the victims have one thing in common, they are used to gambling in the same gambling location and few other evidence.

Sometimes there are still people who believe in betting agencies rather than online casinos people still do this a lot without doing practically in online casinos nowadays.
We don't know from this storyline the fraud that will be committed by the workers at the casino but there are irregularities so this is reported to the authorities, because there is a guarantee mentioned in the article, which means that it can be punished or not, look forward to the case next month.

That's a lot of money, the company should compensate the winner if they are a licensed betting platform, then they commit to honor the winning bets, if they fail to do this, their license will be revoked and they will be fined for stealing with their winners. the winner did the right thing in charging them in court it's their money and the government should do its part to give justice to the winner, I hope the winner gets the justice he deserves and the betting company should help the victim to redeem their reputation.
