According to my layman's view, merit is something you receive when you make a good contribution to this forum.
For your second question, this is a forum. Usually, forums are platforms where members post questions or problems, and more experienced members answer those questions or provide their views on the issue. However, forum also has another positive side, and that is that you can explore all the previous topics and find the answer on your own to the question that may have already been asked in the past.
That's why I'm surprised you didn't bother to research that on your own.

You didn't even bother to look for the answer yourself. Why are you even here if you don't know what the purpose of the forum is?
You both are -Newbies- and that's a similarity, also you both don't have merit I think you are similar, but what's different is what he doesn't have he ask or wants to know how to get it, but how can you tell or explain to the OP how to get merit, which you also don't have. I think as a -Newbie- if you see another fellow -Newbies- asking a question that you haven't asked and it concerns you, you should take attention to it and learn from those who have experience on the question that.
I disagree. Just because someone is a newbie does not mean they are illiterate.
Look, I'm a newbie here too. Sadly, I don't have as much time to spend here as I would like, but that doesn't mean I don't look through old posts and find the information I need. There is no need to ask questions that have already been answered a million times and the answers are readily available.

2. Read the rules on the forum, what can be posted and what is not.
3. Participate in discussions in the forum by making good and polite opinions.

3. Share you knowledge what you basically know perfectly.
4. Help to exposed the scam in this forum. Also warn people if you see such scam activities in this forum or out side this forum.
5. Follow the high ranked and reputed members. Try to grave how actually they build them here.
The main motive of coming in this forum is Learn about crypto, discus about crypto, tech about crypto, and Earning is a bonus.

Main porpuse of the forum is to discuss about Bitcoin and other altcoins, their technical development. Spread knowledge about cryptocurrency among the community. 
In my most recent observation, earning 10 merits can happen very quickly.

I do not see any other topic more convenient for getting the first merits.
The only thing that can be hoped for and warn beginners is that the merit sources are likely to be very attentive to the distribution of bonuses to beginners since practice shows that the latter greatly abuses the kindness of the giver.

But first of all you should treat this as discussion forum and as you have registered today itself and asking for merits is not a good thing.But i wonder if you were desperate to have merits on board why didn't you check for such threads first as they are in the same B&H board in which you are asking the same merit questions.Try to search for such useful topics at first and gain knowledge as much as possible.
The learning is continuous process and evolve yourself with knowledge and experience and come with quality posts and made some useful contribution to the forum and read all the rules at first as ignorance is not a plea to it.With time you could yourself ranking up with merits but don't be in a hurry for it which could be harmful for you.Just give things time and learning is the best option to all of us.

All the replies of the above posters answers your questions. I hope you newbies read the sticky threads before posting. Hope is a dangerous thing. OP I don’t want to know how you got here whether or not you were invited by a friend or family for monetary purposes but your why is a concern. The main thing is you are here now and you have a chance to learn, here you have access to information on a range of topics only available on the forum. Whatever your reasons may be for joining, you have to abide by the forum rules. That shouldn’t be a problem if your reason for being here is not detrimental to the forum. Anyway, given the benefit of the doubt, I would suggest you go for a more less guides on how and actually gain knowledge of the crypto field and forum. Merit matters only to the forum but beyond that, its useless. The knowledge you might acquire here on the other hand, it goes beyond forum, it even applies to investments and daily lives. They are that practical so, you could be seeking those and the merits would find you.
Redefine your concerns and you just might start getting a hang of the forum.

I am sure OP was recommended by his friend or his family member to join BTT for earning purposes. That is why he came straight to the point of how to earn merits. Newbies nowadays join BTT only for one sole purpose that is to earn money. They forget that they need to first learn about cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin and then slowly they can rank up the ladder in the forum by staying active and helpful.

You don't have to focus on earning merit. Merit will come to you when you make useful, helpful, constructive, high or good quality posts/threads that will be good for yourself and for others but before that, there is something you must do first to achieve it. Learning and reading are the best thing to do to start with. Many of us start the same as you with no knowledge about any crypto related but some did start with basic knowledge and become what they are right now. Start from here and you'll know it sooner or later.
