I think the way to do this is by giving the best, useful, and appropriate comments on the topics covered. because if your comment is useful, you can get the merit from other users, who rank higher like jr.member and above,

As some posts in this thread mentioned, we can earned merit writing quality and usefull posts, and in that way you are closer to get merit points. But you cant be sure that you will get it fast.
We indeed must:
1. Write quality post, with real value and your own view, stand
2. Write usefull post, new info that helps someone
3. Write post with value that reminds us of something important or bring us closer to solution.
Someone must see value of your post and do the magic and give you a merit.
If your posts are naturaly like this then it is good for you, and not only for a sake of merit score. Grin

Thx
My tip is work for it and don't ask for it. Post informative and useful things to this forum. Others earn merit by reporting to DT the so-called merit abuse by others but don't follow them.  Grin

You can earn merits by making a high quality posts, but not all high quality posts receive merits. It still depends on people that have shareable merits if they will give you some or not.

exactly my point. So there is really no guarantee that high quality post = merit.

It is still left to THE USERS, who have all the power, rather than the moderators!

It would have been a fair system if the moderators were the ONLY ones giving out merit, but they way it is set up now it encourages closed-up clans, cheating and it is unfair.

All that was needed to ensure high quality posts was a stronger, tougher, moderation, definitely not a system left in the hands of the members.

I agree with the need of improving the quality of the post, I just disagree with the method being used to achieve that goal.

We can earn merits by writing high-quality, informative and helpful posts. This system is made for us to avoid making non sense or off topic posts, and the member will do his/her best to make high-quality and constructive posts to rank up.

Why don't you take your own advice, or don't you have any original content?
After yesterday, merits are not enough to rank up. So please stop asking about merit from time to time. It doesn't make sense.

I don't like merit. Nobody gives them out. I can write good posts or threads and I never receive any merit. Everyone should at least start out with some to begin with rather than to beg for merit in my opinion

That's exactly my same position. You can post guides, record videos, answer questions with links to solutions and nobody really gives a damn about giving merit. And no, it is not because of low quality I don't get any, because as I said I have posted various times solution to problems and I cannot see how that may not qualify as high quality posts.

Suppose I gave you some merits. Now that you have it, you will have a certain period to give it to others. As a user I'm giving it to you and similarly as a user or member of this community you give that to others. How much merits you earn would be counted, not how much you own. There's no point on saving your merits.

If you post some good quality potential and constructive post in this forum and if any member of this forum chose your post so he/ she can give merit you. One person can give you one merit. And a person can give 30 merits a month. So do the good quality and constructive post and get the merit.  Cool

You get merit points based on the quality of your content, consider it like the Facebook like system, you should post quality content and other members will give you merit points if they find any value in your content. You are not supposed to ask/buy/beg for merits because such behavior is highly demoted as it is considered as manipulation with the system. The best way I know is to focus on sharing your knowledge in the best possible way and other members will definitely reward you with merit points if they find it valuable.

yes, the other members of the forum may give you a merit once you have convinced them of your post. your post should have a good quality and will be really helpful and informative to other members. so i advice you to read and research so that you can share your knowledge in the forum. you should also avoid irrelevant posts so that you will not be banned. also, you should not ask for merits because it is one of the rules that you should not beg. merits will be sent to you if you deserve to have one.

Keep posting constructive, high quality, helpful threads, which can help others (almost newcomers solve their problems or simply give them hints); then higher ranked users will (part of them) send you Merits as rewards. After receiving merits, your account will have both merits and sMerita, which you can send to others when you ranked up to at least Member rank. As I know, you will have 5 sMerits at the first point being Member.
Good luck.

It’s a very simple system for merits. It’s just a reward system. You can those from the high ranking members here in bitcointalk. All you need is be helpful and knowledgeable as possible in order for them to reward you as they were able to gain something from your post or simply like your post. High ranking members have SMerits. Those are merits for rewards. I think those SMerits are not counted as their own merits, instead that’s for rewarding members who needs merits that are deserving. The only question I have to is how they earn SMerits.

You can earn merits by giving a good post/contribution that really help the one who needs it or some people here might give you merits as a token of appreciation and these merits is limited as I have read about merits and its purpose, specific moderators per board as well also give merits. By the way you can't just convince anyone to give you merits as it is considering as begging and may lead to ban your account.

As someone who has just started and facing the same uphill battle..

1) You want to give answers as thoroughly as possible, using very plain English, in a way that's easy to follow and isn't condescending..
2) Put thought and care into your responses.. make sure you quote who you are speaking to and answer the question to the best of your ability.
3) Don't just spam posts.. post on things only that you are knowledgeable about through experience or by trade, and avoid posting fluff posts.. this will not work.
4) Set goals and be reasonable... 1 merit per day is very reachable..I've been posting for 3 days and have gained 3 merit.. so I'm just taking it out piece by piece.
5) Know the system is an uphill battle but will work for you in the longrun.. the content that you read will be more worthwhile with less spam and fluff accounts.. which will lead to the bounties/banners and other perks to have less people bloating them lowering their value.

Good luck to all who read this, we'll all make it eventually Cheesy

These are the things you need to do.

1. Pick a topic
2. Research about the topic(if you don't have any knowledge) or just pick something that you know
3. Answer the topic

:what? This is what i'm doing but why am i not getting some?

The key to these are:
1. Try to pick new one's
2. Research research and research. To save time next time if you want to post again.
3. Answer in a way everyone would understand and don't plagiarize.

You basically earn Merit through other people giving you Merit, if people see your posts as helpful or informative people can give/send you Merits. You could also send "sMerit" to people who's post you find helpful to you in a way. Know that keeping your sMerit to yourself does not profit you in anyway so it's better to give/send it to other people.

Is the merit given by any user?
Yes, merit is rewarded by any member who satisfied to the post. Most of the topic that are merited are those who have quality post and needed in the forum/cryptocurrency.

There is one thing to elaborate, however: merit can be given only by one who has sMerits (spendable), and they are scarce. 1 received merit also gives one 0.5 sMerits (2 merits give 1 sMerit which becomes spendable, fractional amounts cannot be sent). So not all good posts are guaranteed to receive merits.
Yes, it is made in order to prevent abusive of the people in the current system. We cannot share every merits we have because it is scarce and we cannot receive easily if our topics is not appropriate nor have the quality post.

To be honest, I dont really understand all of your ideas in the OP. However, I give you some basic information about merit system and older topics on the same issue (that mean you don't need to create to topic like this, instead, you should search old topics and get available answers).
What is merit? How merit system works? https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350
And please don't abuse merit system like those ones https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/list-users-that-are-abusing-merit-system-2823221

Remember that only good/ high quality, and constructive posts will have chance to receive merit points. Sometimes, not always, that depends on your luckiness. Nevertheless, keep writing high quality threads, you will get merits for sure some days in the future.
